I hope no one will google how to get salmonella  ;D
Pepto Bismol did not help me at all. I asked my POIS doctor if Azithromycin is an option for me. I had almost every kind of antibiotics but this one not yet. The last time I took antibiotics was more than 1 year ago and I feel much better in and out of POIS.
But I am happy for you John. Thanks to your topic at NSF I met professor Waldinger.
POIS since 2000. Very bad since 2008. I knew that I have POIS since June 2010. Desensitization since March 2011. I stopped with desens in July 2016. I have 50% less POIS. And only 1 day of POIS. Purified CBD works for me, but I am allergic for CBD.

This is Cro patent-sumamed. Never tried it.
It appears to be a “very safe” antibiotic.
I don’t know if it’s wise to take good probiotics while I’m taking them.
Now I have to find salmonella somewhere.

How are you guys doing?
my pois got back after being food poisoned.
Currently I'm taking co-trimoxazole and symptoms are reducing rapidly.

This thread also adds to the proof that POIS is just some kind of bacterial infection.
Cystite is also another kind of bacterial infection which flares up after ejaculation in males.

Everything will be alright guys.

Interesting that could mean whenever there are excess negative bacterias something changes that then leads to the POIS.

One more question for John - How long was it after the antibiotics that you noticed your symptoms were gone?  I?m on day 5 of the Z-Pack, just wondering how it went for you.

I know Azithromycin has a ridiculously long half life, so it could still be killing off pathogens for another 5 days after stopping.

I didn't have sex until 3 months after the illness.

I already tried  co-trimoxazole for more than a year. The doctor gave it a few times to me because of UTI. It did not do anything for my POIS and also the UTI did not go away.

Congratulations John21!!

I remember you from the NakedScientists forum. You were the first to post about POIS and I sincerely hope you'll the first to lead to a final solution for this terrible thing that ails us.

I suffer from the exact same symptoms that you did, so this looks really promising.

Can't wait for your update CharlesB!

The molecular mimicry theory of autoimmune disorders suggests that bacterias could become negative under stress or other conditions and the immunity starts attacking them however some good parts of the body like cells and molecules and such could be similar to those actual threats the immunity recognizes so it starts attacking the normal parts of the body too leading to auto-immune disorders.

It could be possible that POIS is caused by some negative bacteria being present somewhere in the body chronically for a long time and they mimic some chemicals released during sexual arousal and orgasming/ejaculating thus the body sees those natural peptides as a threat too because of their resemblance to the real negative bacterias and pathogens.

When POIS gets cured by antibiotics that could mean the negative bacteria are wiped out and the immunity does not store them in the memory anymore or is not as responsive to things that could be them structurally thus it does not attack the healthy parts too anymore.

Could this be one of the causes for POIS?

John I saw your dosage of azithromycin (pretty standard) you are taking and are a long time sufferer of pois. Have you prior or ever been tested for STI/STDS and or results? Is this the first time ever trying azithromycin at any dosage?

Sorry if you have answered this question before or is too personal, I am just seeing this post/forum for the first time. Your experience is very similar to a patient I know and would like to learn more, thank you.

Do you think 3 months of abstinence was an important part of your recovery from POIS?

What's wrong with your brother?

In 2019 he had tonsillitis like twenty times so he was on antibiotics for a lot of the year, which I don't think helped much, but he also lived a typical  unhealthy teenager lifestyle: drinking alcohol, smokes, party drugs from time to time.

He's moved out now but this year apart from having covid like me I don't think he has been ill the same as that. He doesn't share any of my POIS/MCAS symptoms luckily for him, but he does have asthma and a bad allergy to nuts, dust and animals.

I did give my mum this pure EPA oil for xmas and she completely transformed as a person in only a few days, she finally was starting conversations with me and was much chattier than usual, she stopped being irritable, she was much happier than normal and started showing a lot of emotions. So basically her aspergers plus slightly depressive symptoms were vanishing, however she is unable to notice the difference in herself which is frustrating for me but what can i do... She denies she has aspergers or autstic traits when it's clear as day she has them.

No...you all have the same thing but it manifests itself differently, I think it's genetic. His tonsillitis is probably sterile inflammation, same thing going on with POISers here on the forum with their recurrent 'UTIs' and get pumped with antibiotics. UTI samples are not consistently coming back positive but still doctors keep treating it as if it's a UTI (could have been in the past, but I think it's secondary. The recurrent 'UTIs' without culture is the primary suspect, some kind of cell is firing). Autism driven by brain mast cell activity is reversible, your mom seem to change after the EPA. Asthma is strongly associated with Th2 cytokines and mast cells. There are some mutations at play here that predispose you to atopic/mast cell disorders...good game. My two cents though.

Inulin (prebiotic) makes me feel worse - more autistic symptoms, sometimes small itchy rashes, I suspect it is feeding bad bacteria or candida.

When I was about 16 I once caught pubic lice (the crabs). I have never had any other known STI/STD. I remember going for tests to rule things out but at this point I can't remember what exactly was being tested. Any questions are welcome, glad to help if I can.

I doubt it.  I have been mainly chaste for much of my life. POIS was too much to take, it was hard enough to handle even once in a while. During this time the long periods of abstinence never helped. This idea - that POIS was cured from the illness/and or antibiotic is to me the most plausible reason that it is gone but I can't say for sure.

You could summarize you case in a personal thread John. A thread could be made in the Lifestyle Diary and POIS Summaries category. If people want to know more about you, you could direct them to the thread and it gives a nice overview.
