If you look at the lit, semen has a high content of amino acidas that are key to our optimal functioning. These amino acids are supplemented by people doing intense workouts in protein drinks because they are used by intense exercise too.

The highest 3 amino acids in human semen are in descending order Serine, Glutamine, and Glutamic acid. See table below:

Ok. That would explain why whey protein helps me a lot ( it has these and others) but it also has compounds that kick in inflammation . So it is a very mixed bag. So i am trying the aminos in pure form, starting with  L Glutamine.   Not large quantities. And it is helping so much in days far from O. I also have  CFS.  people with CFS fuel their energy wiith amino acids. This has been extensively documented. Why? The preferred oxygen pathway is dampened. So CFSers are very low in Glutamine and other aminos that can be used as fuel for that reason. So low that the body starts breaking down muscle to get at them.

I noticed before that when I took Glutamine in days far from O, O days were better.

I am re-starting this test. I stopped momentarily because taking it in O days helped, but turned me into a meat eating machine hard to satiate. I ate with desperation. I needed more fuel desperately. Unpleasant.

That hinted to me maybe needing a lot more than only the 250 mg 4 times a day I found useful, and/or that I needed other aminos.

So I ordered Serine. The one that tops the list in human semen. If you look at the benefits of Serine it makes sense that being low on it would cause many of POIS symptoms.

See a blurp from a seller on its purported benefits below:

%u201C L Serine is an essential amino acid that makes up brain proteins and nerve coverings. L Serine supplements may offer many benefits to those deficient in the amino acid due to it%u2019s vital role in the body. Serine aids in the production of immunoglobins, helps produce tryptophan, and is vital in the production of Serotonin. Supplementing with L-Serine may offer a number of benefits including support of cognitive function, mood, emotional stability, sleep, and the immune system. L-Serine is naturally found in many food products such as meat, soy, and dairy. %u201C

So far just with Glutamine I feel happier, have more mental stamina, much better socially and my muscles feel naturally strong and have far less fatigue.  Supplementing amino acids in CFS is not a new idea. Just search for ME-relief.

The body prioritizes reproduction. So our semen will get replaced first. If for some reason our bodies do not have enough of these amino acids,  they get reallocated to semen replacement. Everything else be darned. This may explain the cumulative effect of multiple Os.

Anyway. Has anybody else tried this very simple approach to get our bodies well supplied of these key amino acids that we lose in ejaculation?

Before you try Serine talk to your doctor specially if you are taking antidepressants.

Hi mr Rabar

I have been doing something similar
I have been  taking l glutamine, zinc, aswaghanda and a probiotic called bacillus coagulans. A weird concoction and took me a while to find a good balance but like yourself have been investigation the nutrients in semen. Taking these has helped recovery time from pois symptoms, hasnt cured it but has been a big help.

I had full POIS disappearance while sick with a cold so I am not sure if it is a depletion probably more likely excess or inproper muscular or nerve activation or something like that.

How interesting. Does it happen every time you have a cold?  How many Os?

Hmm. How old were you when you first noticed POIS symptoms.

Hi Neil,

Have u checked to see which component is the most beneficial?  I can tell you use them all synergistically, but is there one if removed that makes the biggest difference?

Explained by nanna1s theory of a transient immune supression during orgasm perhaps? If the immune system is very active at the time of having a cold this supression is decreased in magnitude.

I started with l magnesium and zinc, but had to take the magnesium out as it was making my mood really low, I kept with the zinc as I know it helps boost the testosterone. I then added l glutamine as I hear the amnio acids it contains help the gut which is linked to the brain and also helped reduce my anxiety. The ashwagandha I take is to balance and maintain hormonal levels as it is an adaptation. The pro biotic I started to take was after i did a gut cleanse to try and replenish the good bacteria. So in answer to your question ( sorry if that was a bit long winded) no I have only added to the concoction, I have never taken away.

Interesting. I have not heard of Serine before. Seems to be some "in between step" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serine

Seems to be involved in blood brain flow, depression too https://selfhacked.com/blog/serine/

The ashwagandha I take is to balance and maintain hormonal levels as it is an adaptation.

I have good experiences with Ashwagandha too (but need to cycle(=take pauses) it, can't take it indefinitely).

(Zinc is good to take too, obviously. Just don't over supplement as it can lead to copper deficiency)

Have you noticed any improvement with this specifically?

(In general, I think supplementing ammino acids is good.. and eating egg/protein)

That is the only time I can recall in my whole life having zero POIS symptoms because of having a cold and it was like three times during those few days while I was sick with that cold and zero cognitive symptoms practically felt the same before and after and the thing with the POIS is that I do not remember when exactly it started however I think that during the middle of puberty the first POIS symptoms started showing up and appearing noticeably until that I do not ever recall having had brain fog ever before or any other POIS symptoms or negative symptoms of any kind in the general and I was a fully functional human being before POIS

Boost Th1 response just prior to orgasm. Find stuff that can boost Th1 cytokines, these will block Th2 cytokine release.

Interesting it seems that Panax Ginseng is a Th1 stimulator and drinking that monster energy drink has always made me feel better although I do not think that it fully strongly and noticeably improved those POIS symptoms though but it had a specific kind of positive stimulating effect that I have not ever had from the Coffee and the Sugar and the Caffeine in the general.

I am wondering, if we can create a knowledgebase on Th1 vs Th2 vs Th17 vs TReg, if anyone has knowledge on this topic, would be so appreciated.

The reason I ask is, there is A LOT of confusion I feel, even in the most expert practitioners as to which are the better pathways.

Prior to Covid, experts used to say: Th2 is anti-inflammatory (IL-10) so better, Th1 is inflammatory.  Though now with Covid, we hear the opposite.

I think theres something else in semen that were missing, you can take all the extra electrolytes to back it up. But it only reduces the symptoms and recovery time in some cases, we all know abstaining in O alleviates symptoms if not cures it by prolonging, in this time your body is absorbing the dead sperm and  reproducing new ones.

I can vouch for these things making a positive difference and recommend it as a basic trial for anyone to work with :

L glutamine
Vitamin D
Zinc
Magnesium
Fenugreek

There are other things , but try those and see how it goes for a month or so anyone .

Do your research and do what is right for your body.

Nothing is going to work without good exercise and good nutrition too.

Any type of CBD to help with mental health will help.

Even if this is a ?cure? or there is a ?cure? out there , remember you will still have to rebuild your psyche and mental patterns and strength.. which is possible and do able .

Good luck all , go from strength to strength one day at a time.

I can honestly say that I have tried exercise all the pills and potions complete detox and they help to a certain extent but unfortunately I think this is more a placebo.

Anyone changing their nutrition and doing more exercise without pois will also feel better within themselves, unfortunately still doesnt get to the root cause which is the real deal.

I have abstained for months and my symptoms disappear, but I have also been eating the wrong foods at the same time so the 2 for me dont go in hand.

I think genetics play a big role unfortunately and this is where we are stuck.

New POIS paper talking about a Piezo2 Channelopathy:
Post Orgasmic Illness Syndrome (POIS) and Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS): Do They Have Anything in Common?

Quotes from that paper:
"Furthermore, the acute depletion of spermidine is suggested to be an additional critical mechanism in the pathophysiology of POIS."
"Dietary spermidine supplementation could be tested as an option prior to sexual activities."

It's actually mentioned a lot there, I haven't read it yet. I still have other things on my supplements-to-test (mastic gum, saltstick, vitassium, time release niain) so i can't do this soon.

Regarding Spermidine:
I experimented on one post orgasm day to have some spoons of wheat germ powder and old cheddar (1y age). I don't think I noticed any change.
But for sure will try it again, maybe also with soy beans and pumpkin seeds (which I love for their zinc content).

All these foods are high histamine also which could negate any benefits you might experience from the spermidine.
