What kind of doctor should I see to treat this?
« on: August 08, 2020, 07:22:25 PM »
I went to my primary care doctor probably 5-7 years ago. And he looked up POIS and basically said it's not real, and it's all caused by my depression. He also said it's basically made up, or debated as to weather it's real.

I went to a new PCP and reported my symptoms, without saying it was caused by orgasm, and they said go to a psychiatrist.

I'm not going to tell my psychiatrist because he's weird and I know he will say it's just anxiety or hypochondria.

I'm pretty sure I have to see my primary care doctor before I can see a specialist, because I need their recommendation. And I know if I explain my symptoms, she won't give me the recommendation because she thinks it's all in my head.

I'm at my wits end and I'll go to a private doctor and pay more, I don't care.

So my question is what kind of doctor should I go to? (that's not a psychiatrist)

I feel your pain brainfogfun. Makes me so angry when someone with a terrible condition has to fight just to be believed, let alone treated properly. I've also been taken for a hypochondriac many times over the years. Fortunately at the moment I'm going to an endocrinologist who is aware of and acknowledges the condition, although he only seems half-interested in putting in the extra work to learn about it sufficiently to help me.

Personally I'd look for a Mast Cell Activation Syndrome expert, as I personally suspect my case and many others are down to that condition. No such experts in my own country, but you may have better luck where you live. E.g. the US and Germany both seem to have more competency and interest around this.

EDIT: Oh, and hang in there and don't give up. :)
