Nothing seems to help me
« on: June 25, 2020, 01:52:07 PM »
I don't get flu-like Pois symptoms unlike other people. So I was already doubtful on the efficacy of antihistamine. In the past I have tried Montelukast and levoceterizine. Yesterday before O, I took ibuprofen+paracetamol, 30 mg hydroxyzine HCL, Niacin 250 mg, Vitamin D, Multivitamins and omega 3. No improvement in my symptoms whatsoever. Infact I am more sleepy than ever. Post O yesterday- I was getting the same feeling which I got when I drank too much vodka one time (I have tried drinking only 2 times). I have a pretty healthy vegetarian diet (except eggs) otherwise and I workout daily. I am very fatigued right now, severe headaches, blackouts, and usual symptoms like Memory loss, and speech problem). Even in abstinence period, I have a general weakness, blackouts, speech problems and I don't feel confident.

I have tried out depression drugs for 20 days and completely the course only day before yesterday (Paroxetine, etizolam, and ginkgo bilboa, supplements). My lab reports are all clean and I have excellent total testosterone and vitamin D levels.

I guess nothing works on me. Have tried 6 months of abstinence to fail. Abstinence with a very healthy diet for atleast 3-4 years while keeping wetdreams in check is the only possible solution that occurs to me right now. I am 22 and I have work starting from August, I was hoping I can find a cure (even if partially) so that this doesn't affects my professional life. But Alas, I'll have to live with this weakness, and abstain for years to come.

Please let me know, if there is some other drug or solution which I should try. I only have one month to find something helpful because I can't take the risk of masturbating and trying out something when I'll be working.

Do you notice any other health problems besides POIS? (Even with the great lab tests, of course)

Have you tried shaking up your gut around a bit (internet calls it cleanse or detox), for example by doing a 1-2 day fast with only water, coconut oil and minerals? (as an example).

Have you tried for a few days to not eat the eggs and try meat instead?
Or replace wheat grains with rice?
Remove casein/milk products for some time?

I have a tendency of having low blood pressure. I feel my blood pressure drops after an orgasm, which is responsible for my blackouts, headaches, and severe fatigue.

I can't really have meat. I am planning to go on a vegan diet but will continue to have wheat. If I see no improvement then also, I plan on cutting on wheat too. I haven't really tried fasting because I feel that taking more calories helps me reducing general weakness. Also coffee is the only thing which temporarily brings a little relief to me.

Nobody can advise you to take a specific drug on this forum, we are not doctors  :)

Changes in diet have helped to reduce many people's POIS symptoms - others have found supplements/vitamins that help them. It can be a long journey - it took me 20 years to find something that worked for me :)

My advice would be to read carefully through the forum - there is a lot of useful information here. The most helpful posts aren't necessarily the ones that are full of medical jargon  ;D ;D ;D

Hi Legendary Animal.

I read you have a tendency to hypotension.  This is the first objective symptoms that I have found for my own POIS attacks, years ago !  And not many members report to have it.  So I cannot tell you what to take, but I can share what works for me to normalize my blood pressure in POIS.  It is very important for me, since low blood pressure is one of my worst POIS symptoms - it causes me extreme fatigue, dizziness, severe exercise intolerance, major difficulty to be able to work for 2 or 3 days ( that was a living nightmare !),  heart palpitations, major irritability, and so on.

The first 2 things I have found,  about 25 years ago, were green tea and magnesium.

Green tea is helping me raise my blood pressure (BP) for 4 to 6 hours.  At first, I was drinking commercial iced tea.  But for years now, I use Green Tea extract capsules, because I have now a very healthy diet, which also helps with POIS, so I do not drink sugary drinks anymore. The green tea capsules I take are very effective and high quality, with standardized EGCG and standardized polyphenols, which are the antioxidants in it  ( I use the Jamieson ones - I have no commercial link with them - the one I use are these:  https://www.amazon.ca/Jamieson-Green-Tea-Phytosome-Complex/dp/B001Q8BBFS )  One green tea capsule every 6 hours or so is really helping me to raise my BP.

Than, the magnesium is also very helping.  I take 50 to 100mg 3 times a day ( still in the jamieson brand - I like their preparation, it is a mix of several natural magnesium salts ).  It helps raise my BP too, and helps with other POIS symptoms too.  With years, I have found that all electrolytes are great to help raise my BP.  .  So I came to use table salt too, which is Sodium chloride. It is very effective to raise BP... I put 2,5 to 3 cc of salt ( 3 cc is the same as 3 ml) in a glass of water and drink it, and take my pressure 20 minutes after... it really helps (  About the salt quantity, here in Canada we use metric measures, and 2,5 to 3 cc, or ml, seems to be the same as 1/4 tbs, but different converters give different results....so I prefer to use ml and cc for accuracy ) .  It is better for me to take less salt, and take more later if needed, than to take too much salt.  But important to note, I have no kidneys issues, and no cardiac issues, and surely not high blood pressure problems, unless I would not take salted water like that, it would be contraindicated, and not safe.

Some potassium, some calcium helps too, but not as much as Sodium chloride and magnesium.  However, when I do physical exercise and sport, I take all of them after, because like in POIS, i get low pressure after, especially when I had sweat a lot.  I lookl like I lose much minerals through sweet ( mine has a very, very salty taste), so I must replenish my electrolytes after.  I take potassium, sodium chloride, magnesium, and calcium, after sport, so I recover much more faster.
During a POIS attack, I aim to get a BP at or over 110/70.   With time, I saw that even at 109/68, I do not feel well and have no energy.  At 112/71,  I am ok.    It usually take 15 to 20 minutes to see the effect of what I have taken on my BP.  I can take some more salty water and other electrolytes after that, if I did not reach my 110/70 mark.
Once my hypotension is under control, I would say that about 75% of my POIS is relieved... and I can live with the rest  ( However, now, my pre-pack take care of 80% to 100% of my symptoms, like explained at https://poiscenter.com/forums/index.php?topic=2090.msg16604#msg16604 )

For 5 years now,, I take my pre-pack before ejaculation, so I do not have hypotension problems anymore.  Green tea, magnesium and potassium are still part of this pre-pack, and I suppose that other components of it, like 5-HTP, helps keep my BP normal, too.

Also, apart from that, I keep in check my B12 and my Iron intake, because a low hemoglobin facilitates hypotension.

See with a health professional if a similar strategy as mine would be safe and useful for yourself.

Hi Quantum

Thanks for the invaluable info for treating hypotension.  I am a life long sufferer of it but could not find a proper cure for it.  You have mentioned half a tablespoon after extreme hypotension.  My bp goes to even 85/60 many a times because of my underlying liung damage(severe bronchiectasis).  I tried a quarter tablespoon of salt and found good relief which no doctor has till now told me.  Their only treatment is saline with dextrose iv for 2 to 3 days.  This happens every other week for the past one year and I am very scared whenever my bp falls because my hands cannot tolerate any more iv lines.  Just now I have measured my bp and it gone up from 90/60 to 110/70 after the quarter tablespoon of salt water.  I hope this will save me from painful iv lines.  My other bothersome problem is thick mucus which clogs my airways.  I have stopped dairy products as per your advice and got some relief but still   could not completely control it.
If I could stop that my breathing will become lot more easier.

Also many of our symptoms like malabsorption salty sweat, low weight, allergies are present in cystic fibrosis. I don't know whether our disease is caused by by a similar gene defect.

I am glad it helps, aswinpras.  The amount you take is not that much, but just make sure with your physician that it is ok with your kidneys and with any conditions you have, and that it is ok to use it from time to time.

About the exact quantity of salt I take, I think that it is about the same as you take.  Here in Canada, we use metric measures, and what I take is about 2,5 to 3 cc, which is the same as 2.5 to 3 ml .   I think, but I am not sure, that it is quite the same quantity as what you call  a quarter tablespoon  ( tablespoon and teaspoon do not seem to mean the same everywhere, so I prefer to give it in cc, cubic centimeters, for more clarity)   3 ml, or 3 cc, is not that much, but has a big effect on blood pressure. I prefer to take only 3 ml of salt in a glass of water, and wait 20 to 30 minutes, take my blood pressure, and take some more salted water if needed.  ( I have modified my previous post too with metric measures).

Thanks once again Quantum.  My pulmonologist have already told me he cannot provide any more treatment to improve me except a lung transplant.  I am 42 years of age and have no kidney problem or diabetes or liver problem and my treatment is now  mainly symptomatic relief I e have severe breathing problem take corticosteroid for infections iv antibiotics. So anything that works is of great help at the moment and I hope salt helps me in the future also.  I am also planning to try a low histamine diet.

But my main wish is I should be well enough to try my omalizumab therapy postponed now due to covid 19.  If it works it will be a excellent news for many of our forum members.

Yes. HOWEVER: I meant this only as a trial to trigger a die off (of whatever) and an increase of immune system. There is so many benefits to intermitent fasting. And unless you have a super low body fat percentage, the fasting will not cause trouble if you take enough minerals with you (you can also still take things like coconut oil if you don't feel confident cutting out all food)

See with a health professional if a similar strategy as mine would be safe and useful for yourself.

Thanks for your invaluable advice. The last three days after after the ejaculation have been very tough on me. I felt dead mentally. Before the ejaculation, I took ibuprofen+paracetamol, niacin, hdroxyzine HCl 30 mg, Vitamin D (60,000 Iu), and multivitamins. Also a 20 day antidepressant (visited a psychiatrist) course before that which I believe did no good and only worsened it, I was testing this as it works for many people here. To my horror, I got the most severe POIS symptoms. Severe headache, fatigue, blackouts. I don't have any body pains or any physical symptoms. From the second day of symptoms I am keeping a track on my BP as pointed by you. Diastolic was in the range of 45-65 and Systolic 90-110. I have been eating a lot to keep it in a normal range (healthy eating) but to no avail. Took green tea, coffee, oats, dry fruits, eggs, and exercised. Nothing seems to help the fatigue and headache.

Right now on the fourth day, it is 105/50. But the thing is I feel much better than the first 3 days despite the low bp right now also. I blame this severe POIS attack on the pre medication I took. So BP definitely plays here a role for me and it is not something histamine related for me. But it is not that directly related to BP for me as it is for you. On 100/60, on the second day I felt dead, and now at 105/50, I feel much better (almost okay). Can't really find an explanation for this I am planning to visit a neurologist, and don't tell him about the POIS since I have low BP in abstinence also.

My current roadmap is abstinence for several years to come and a clean, healthy diet with exercise. I don't want to mess up my career experimenting with different medicine as I''ll be working from next month.

Hi Nas. I have never had intercourse, so I can't really say if I have premature ejaculation. But I get precum very easily, even on the slightest of the arousal. Also, with a general discussion with my friends, I got to know they keep shaking for several minutes. I can edge, but once I start doing it it takes a couple of minute, I reckon. I have never tried smoking and have had alcohol twice, which made me worse on the next day. Otherwise, I workout and have a healthy diet and masturbate very occasionally like twice a mont at the maximum. I have been on abstinence but had to break out to try out some treatments. Also I have wet dreams, sometime once on week, at other times, once a month. I think that POIS has a strong link to Premature ejaculation.

Actually I have been raised a vegetarian, I can't eat animals, neither does my culture allows it. I tried intermittent fasting, got only more weakness though. I am mildly lactose intolerant, so I am planning to reduce my dairy. I am not going vegan now, because I need to eat more in general to keep the weakness away.

Thanks for your advice, anyways.

Thanks a lot Quantum

The salt therapy for raising BP  works great and I could now avoid iv drips to a great extent.

Mucus plugging in my lungs and sinuses ,,indigestion after hot/cold shower, extremes of temperature,  exposure to ceiling fan, ac ,,or table fan air and most importantly after nocturnal ejaculation(I have completely stopped intercourse) are the  most uncontrollable/life threatening problems for me right now and if I can prevent this I can live for a year or more and can have a shot at omalizumab therapy.

Any advice on this from our members will be a life saver for me because medical therapy is now not working for me due to my advanced lung disease(bronchiectasis).

I know this forum is not for lung disease but many poisers have similar sinus and mucus congestion problem and also the practical knowledge of our members is unmatched and much more useful than medical advice for our rare disease. Thanks in advance.

Hi aswin... NAC

NAC can relieve symptoms of respiratory conditions by acting as an
antioxidant and expectorant, loosening mucus in your air passageways.
As an antioxidant, NAC helps replenish glutathione levels in your lungs
and reduces inflammation in your bronchial tubes and lung tissue.Sep 26, 2018

I did write about NAC before and i think that this suplement can be
good for a lot of poisers, incrisese gluthation, lowers glutamate, fight
inflamation, antioxidant,  incriese dopamine,
a wery potent detox... and meny other benefits.

Take it with some vit C  and vit A E D...

Consult youself about it with Dr-experts before use...good luck  ;)

Thanks a lot Hopeoneday.  Whether NAC helps me or not but the concern shown by
you and many other members of this wonderful forum is of immense mental  support at this difficult time for me.  I will try NAC immediately because it is not a prescription drug.
