I'm sorry to hear you feel you need to take 50+ supplements and still don't feel well.

It is true that earlier I had this “funny” notion of committing suicide by treating myself to death if a cure does not work out anyhow. However the situation is only that I am getting too old to make any meaning to my life if I had actually achieved a full cure. Thus I need to do things as quickly as possible. There are supplements that work better initially and there are those that don’t, still I don’t want to throw them out just because they were less effective in the beginning as they were rather expensive. At least I am gradually moving in the direction of buying only the more effective ones over time, though I still buy a lot of new stuff as well, and they need to be trialed, which takes a really lot of time of course. Fortunately my lab results were alright despite the hardcore treatment approach, which gives me some peace of mind.

Nevertheless I also agree with those who support a holistic approach. I mean we need to live generally healthy in every way possible and not only depend on drugs and supplements to solve our problem. Due to the severity of POIS we are so sensitive to any negative influence that they usually overrule positive contributions. Thus it is even more important to try to avoid them as best as we can.

In early 2024 I also had my three amalgam fillings removed, even though I don’t believe this to be the cause of my POIS, but still this was one of those things I could do to avoid a possibly detrimental circumstance.
Recently I started to do regular exercises once again, though it feels a double-edged sword as always.
I am also trying to improve my diet continuously, though it is not an easy thing to do due to outside influences (mother’s cooking). There are other things like adequate hygiene and resting well. I try to play less video games and instead read more books as it seems to have a positive influence on my cognition contrary to the other, that also often makes me skip on more important activities. I also try to watch less porn videos as I had realized that they have a negative impact on my psyche and I mean this beside the symptoms of POIS. My ultimate goal is to find a partner, though it is an impossibility as of yet, and have a family with a meaningful life.
The cause is probably a combination of autoimmunity and SASP leading to excessive oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation. Antioxidants, testosterone, NO and norepinephrine boosters, ERbeta, sigma-1, SIRT-1 and dopamine agonists, PDE4, PDE5 inhibitors and CD36 antagonists are effective.

Hard to relate B1 to Pois.... Maybe its role in lipid metabolism.

I've concluded my thiamine protocol experiment.

I tried a thiamine protocol for around 5 months, starting Aug 2024. Main supplements were sublingual thiamine mononitrate 100mg, later also benfotiamine 150mg (increased to 300mg for 1 month only), both daily. For several months, this seemed to help reduce fatigue but did not seem to help with other pois symptoms. It was well tolerated, mild side effects of a little diarrhea and slight insomnia.
I stopped the protocol at the end of 2024. Since then, the side effects have diminished and I have not detected a significant enough difference with fatigue to warrant restarting the protocol.
caveat 1: This has been a relatively low dose thiamine trial. I supplemented daily but I took less thiamine compared with other people on similar protocols. You could argue that I've simply not taken enough thiamine to expect a good result. I also didn't take Mg or K.
caveat 2: It's been a particularly hectic 6 months for me therefore you could argue it's not been a good test as there have been other variables.
Should you try it?: That's up to you and your doctor! I'm not a medical adviser, just reporting my experience. I thought it had potential but it didn't work out for me.

Overall, I'm disappointed to report basically a meh result.  :(

Disappointment. If it doesn't work after 5 months (even 1), it will never work. If you still have some vitamins left, you can try boosting magnesium (or other cofactor or taurine) :/

This is more likely to work on a similar profile close to Wernicke or average B1 defiency : nervous system/muscle tremors, mental confusion and digestive problems.

Thanks b_jim.
I have lots of leftover thiamine supplements!
You could be right that thiamine + taurine might be a good combination but I don't feel like restarting thiamine at the moment. If you try those together, I wish you the best and it would be interesting to read how it goes.
As for myself, no supplements at all at the moment except D3 & K2. I've got a hospital appt coming up with an endocrinologist so I prefer to go to that without anything extra in my body.

Wow, this is really interesting! I had started taking choline. So, it’s really interesting to read this.
What are you taking now? Any new discoveries?

Thanks for your amazing contributions!
Thank you community! I am no longer alone, with “unreal” symptoms.
I have hypothyroidism & constipation (toilet every 3 days or more). Worst constipations = more pois, & lots of mucus in the stools, or just mucus coming out.
