Yellow and liquidish poop
« on: November 22, 2020, 07:43:43 AM »
In POIS my fecalias when pooped out are yellow and liquidish and leave stains on the toilet paper when wiping and inside the toilet pod's inside too but after a few days of abstinence they get brown and consistent and leave 0 traces anywhere and shoot out straight like rockets anyone else gets poop issues in POIS I read it can mean less bile production does that mean POIS lowers bile production somewhat I wonder what mechanism is behind the poop issues in POIS?

Good point Journey! Yes, thats what happening to me too. The feces gets yelllowish and watery at around day 4-5 after pois and can either become better after some day or stay yellow for weeks. The normal brown color of stool occurs due to the presence of bilirubin. Bilirubin is formed as a breakdown product of hemoglobin (from red blood cells) in the liver and is secreted into the bile, which enters the intestines. Pale yellow, greasy, foul-smelling stool are caused by malabsorption of fat due to pancreatic insufficiency, as seen with pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer, cystic fibrosis, celiac disease.

So either the liver or pancreas (or both) are temprarily compromised because of the POIS-inflammation.

Journey, how long time did you have this yellow stool?

I made a poll for it here:

It's only when not abstinent after a few days of abstinence the stool turns to a normal brown color.

Apparantely yellow liquidish poop can mean fat malabsorption or liver or gallbladder problems or not enough bile production or white bloodcells in stomach so POIS might cause one of these in my case I wonder if in POIS less nutrients are absorbed too does anyone feel as POIS makes it harder to gain weight too?

Yes, I did a hair mineral analysis some years ago and that resulted in low levels on almost all vitamins/minerals. That surprised me since I was taking multivitamin supplemens. Now I have difficult to gain weight but that is probably due to my SIBO diet and fasting after 5pm

I thought of this thread yesterday when browsing Reddit to research the FODMAP topic mentioned here.

https://www.reddit.com/r/FODMAPS/comments/jbxvro/my_number_twos_changed_colour_after_abstaining/

My personal goal for next days/weeks will be to try lower FODMAP and take a supplement with Betain HCL, Ox Bile and digestive enzymes.

I didn't follow through with it.
I seem to have better experience with taking DAO supplement (NaturDAO pills 5 min before food)
But I'm only trialing this for a week or two now or so, that's why I did not want to mention it just yet.
I'll post something if I'm more confident in it.

Ok, now it seems that my worse symptoms originates from leaky gut without POIS. POIS still gives my POIS but I get all kinds of similar symptoms by specific foods. I've had brown stools for some time but for the last two days I've eaten a curry spiced fish/chicken soup three times in a row and today the poop went light yellow again plus headache and the skin ithes and get red here and there. I have very difficult to gain weight and my connective tissue is getting thinner and more lumpy. It was the spices in the food that made this. I cant eat spices anymore. I belive thie yellow stool is caused by inflamed liver and/or pancreas and the loss of connective tissue is cause by the excess cortisol caused by the inflammation.

I'd be very interested to hear your results, even if they are preliminary. Keep in mind that it can take weeks to lower histamine levels via a low histamine diet so it stands to reason it could take that long for DAO supplements to feel effective too.

I know you have a genetic variation for lower natural DAO levels. Even those of us without that gene could be affected too though. Reduced DAO levels can be caused by gastrointestinal conditions including small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), Crohn?s disease, gluten intolerance, ulcerative colitis and inflammatory bowel disease. Alcohol and many medications can interfere with DAO activity too.
