Lactose Intolerance

A poll to see if there is any relation between lactose intolerance and POIS. We may follow this up with a question about consumption of lactose-free milk.

My younger brother's diet consisted of milk, grains and sugar during his youth just like me and got POIS and health issues as well. My older brother didn't like milk and bread. He skipped milk products completely and is totally fine. Not sure if this is related.

I wonder if our guts becomes dependent on milk. I can remember I stopped having cereal and milk when life got busier during my teenage years. I'm testing lactose-free milk now to see if it improves my health.

Lactose intolerance gives IBS like symptoms. It isn't known for inducing rare diseases like POIS. I don't think POIS is being caused by a lactose intolerance. We don't make any progress with these discussions anyway.

Research, labtests and experimentation with medication could lead us in a direction. I'm dairy and grain free for years but can't notice any effects on pois. It does however have an effect on my overal health especially IBS like symptoms.

My brain seems to react clearly to pois. Summer plays a role in this as well. I'm thinking about testing some obscure hormones. My GP was thinking about sending me to an endocrinologist but most docs are not taking POIS seriously.

I also tried to get some testing for osteoporosis done but this was being refused because of my age and normal bone markers. I'm getting these blackouts lately where i can't remember what i were doing. If this keeps going on in this manner i will be having full blast alzheimer/parkinson in 10-15 years.

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree that lactose isn't the cause of POIS.

My current theory is that my issues are related to a fungal overgrowth.

is your "amnesia" like, you thought about doing something next but as you finish what you are currently doing you forget what you are suppose to do next.
Is it something different.
what do you mean by summer plays a role

I have the memory issues, I keep forgetting what I was just going to do so it's short-term memory. I also have long-term memory issues like recalling movie names and actors.

With regards to this thread, I've read that dairy products contain Taurine. I'm wondering if the lack of cow's milk due to lactose intolerance has had an impact on my symptoms. I will get a Taurine supplement tomorrow and will update my progress in my other thread.

Interesting post by someone who claims consuming dairy fixes restless leg syndrome. They presume it is because of the high Lysine content in dairy which inhibits herpes viruses and perhaps other pathogens:

I am currently taking L-Lysine and working up to 1000mg 3 times daily (3000mg total).

When I was a toddler I'd react bad to milk (not to mother's milk tho)-diarrhea, green poop, rashes on face, etc. so I wasn't given milk, only sour milk products which never gave any reaction. Recently I drank milk protein tho, didn't get any reaction, although I haven't drank full milk but I do remember years ago sipping it when making yoghurt for biology homework, don't think I had any reaction so it might've been when I was younger.

...the only health problems I can think of in my family are the endless digestive problems of my mother. She's been diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome and lactose intolerance, but her troubles only appeared after the emotional turmoil of her relationship with my physically abusive father, so that might explain her issues.

Quite fascinating that you both got POIS, that really should be more investigated.

I was also a big time cow milk drinker until sometime in my 20ies when I realized that I get skin issues (pimples) from it.
However now I can see that it might be that my energy levels went worse over the years after stopping to drink milk. (Correlation or causation?)

Digestion problems from milk came later I think. More relevant when taking cream (sauces or cake)

These days I managed to improve my milk (protein and lactose) intolerance (maybe through those peppermint pills, see my posts) and I re-introduced goat milk and I feel it improves my energy.
I can't handle onions/garlic anymore, not sure since when. Maybe since I took the antibiotics for the dental gum issues.

Goat milk is A2 milk while cows are often A1. It's not only about lactose.

Berlin, I still prefer chocolate milk.

10 years of significant POIS-reduction, treatment consisting of daily (365 days/year) testosterone patches.

TRT must be checked out carefully with your doctor due to fertility, cardiac and other risks.

40+ years of severe 4-days-POIS, married, raised a family, started/ran a business
