POIS Cured!!! With a capital C.
« on: May 05, 2018, 06:29:44 PM »
I stopped the Benadryl in February, with no symptoms and the Zyrtec completely about a week ago.  I have NO symptoms, and I am 100% Cured.  POIS symptoms were excruciating since 13 years old until 5 and 1/2 years ago when I started on an antihistamine and Benadryl.  3 yeas later I switch from Claritin to Zyrtec continuing with the Benadryl.  Now NO symptoms from this allergy........and it is an allergy!!!  100% of you have this allergy.  I suggest you treat it as such.

My system got used to blocking that strong reaction, until it desensitized itself to it.

P.S.  if you're going to bring your hate don't write.  I found my cure, if you're jealous or can't handle it, FU.

If you're curious about my entire antihistamine regimen, use your tech skills and search under happy2.

God Bless, I'm out.

Congratz, but, did you have any cognitive symptoms during POIS? Because I have no allergy-like symptoms, my POIS is all neurological for what it seems...

Hi Happy2, and kudos for your method.

If possible, can you pass by in 3 to 6 months, just to confirm that you are still POIS-free ?   I say this because you have been dropping the Zyrtec one week ago, and it would be interesting to see if you are still enjoying the same POIS-free state after some months without any antihistamines.

Don't worry about the hate and flaming, POIScenter members has good manners, much more than the average internet forum :)     And the mods team always keep an eye so that it stays that way.

Even if some symptoms come back sometime, at least you know how to get rid of them.   But if your immune system has developed a permanent tolerance to this supposed allergy, than that's great, you may never have any symptoms again.

It would be cool that you come back from time to time.  You may become, if you would agree,  an interesting "subject" for a POIS researcher, he may be looking for some immune component in your blood, in trying to know why you have no more symptoms :)   And, it is possible that members here have questions for you, that they do not find answer to in your past posts.

Thanks for you contribution to this forum, Happy2, and to, at least, finding a very efficient method for one type of POIS.  That's a great contribution.

Enjoy your relief , Happy2!

Hi Scrud. See at http://poiscenter.com/forums/index.php?topic=2549.msg22069#msg22069 :

I had severe brain fog, joint pain in my fingers, neck, knees, and back, also OCD like symptoms, couldn’t sit still, had to be on my feet and moving 24-7, at least it felt like 24-7, severe fatigue on days 4 and 5, speech problems, couldn’t find the right words to say.

I have no zero side effects from the Zyrtec.  The Benadryl is no side-effects except the tiredness the next day.  The doctors I have seen; urologist, GP, and Psych. Doc all said the Benadryl would not hurt me at all.  The urologist said it wouldn’t do anything to my liver either.

( I post the link because I am not sure Happy2 will log on regularly, because of the "I'm out" at the end of his last post.  I do wish he stays in contact with poiscenter, though, and come back from time to time )

I will, I'm going back to grad school and I'm working on 3 startups right now.

Try taking Benadryl immediately after O see if that doesn't work better for you.  I got my best results from taking two pills within 20 seconds following O.

I'll be going back to my doctor someday to see what his take on the recovery is.

My doctors have led me a long way to get where I'm at; psych doc, GP, and urologist.

I'll try Zyrtec next time, but I have a question for you, did the Zyrtec you are (were) taking have certizine and pseudoefedrine? Cause' in my country (Mexico) only certizine can be found in the drug stores, nothing with pseudoefedrine is available to buy here. I'm willing to try this, on monday I had sexual activity and it ended up for me in a terrible POIS on tuesday, a lot of fatigue and a terrible brain fog. Tried Celebrex and Gabapentin and none of these worked.

Interesting, pseudoephedrine may be worth investigating not only for POIS but also for ANS related symptoms. I wasn't aware of this substance, thanks Scrub. I have put this on my things to try list.

Happy2 congratulations!!!

One of my POIS symtoms is insomnia. Last night I tried to take an antihistamine whose active substance is bilastine.
I did sleep much better. With a deeper sleep.

can histamine be involved in any way with the symptoms of POIS?
It is related with inmune system. And it is also considered a neurotransmiter.
But also, according to more than one allergologist I visited, POIS is not related with IgE (isotype E of inmunoglobuline, that is linked to antibodies related with allergies).

So, It is a bit confusing...

That's pretty interesting actually. Dr Michael Lowy mentioned that he had a patient who took claratyne every day and the symptoms disappeared but at the time my symptoms were quite bad and I tried to take it every day but didnt really notice a difference.

Perhaps it is a combination of taking the antihistamines regularly at a sufficiently high dose  to effectively block the histamine cascade which causes the generalised inflammation. I think for this to work, you need to get your body back to a healthier state. Have a period of abstinence, try my anti-inflammatory methods, rebuild your body, then take the antihistamines religiously. It will make you feel really dry  which I didnt like but if it works then it's worth it

If you're in the worst phase of POIS, like in the bottom of a bottomless pit, then dont expect a few tablets to fix the POIS because it just wont.
You need to remove the inflammation first. All the symptoms are inflammation driven. Remove as much inflammation and you can remove the symptoms

Stop the inflammation with a constant supply of antihistamines could work but would require perseverance.

I've been taking phenergan 25mg one a night in the lead up to the O and it reduces the POIS inflammation.

Each antihistamine works differently in each person so it is a bit of a trial and error. The drowsy antihistamines are stronger though.
Telfast, clartyne, zyrtec are non drowsy so theyre not as strong as your drowsy ones like phenergan, benadryl, polaramine
The Drowsy one get into the brain so that would definitely help with the brain fog
Sertraline is also good for brain fog, it's like a mop for all that brain fog, great stuff

Hi,

I am taking celecoxib (that is a COX-2 inibitor, like Celebrex) since last Tuesday, 200 mg /day. And as melt says, my inflammation seems to be going away. My GP told me to take it for a week and after that begin to reduce it slowly (alternating a day with and a day without) some days after the week. But an urologist I visited last monday, told me to take the celecoxib at least during one month (because it seems I have some inflammation yet). I am also following an abstinence period that seems to help me also. Don't know why, but after one month of abstinence (now), I still have some POIS symtoms. But they are much soft than they were the first days. I have read that symptoms can be almost permanent if you have O frequently. And It's not long since I know that I have POIS. After 4 years and a half (I recently discovered!). During the time I did not know, I was having O's with some frequency (during more than 4 years...). I'm guessing that's the reason why now my POIS symtoms are lasting so much (after one month and still feeling some of them).

There are so many antihistamines that you never know which one could be the best to try. With respect to those sleepy antihistamines, I also tried long time ago (when I was not aware of having POIS) one antihistamine that is very drowsy (it seems it was one of the first antihistamines or very old one). The somnolence of this antihistamine was a clear side effect of it. So strong that now it is sold for people suffering insomnia. This is why I used it one year ago aprox. I taked it half an hour before going to bed. And it is true I sleeped much better. Doxilamine 12,5 mg is the name of the active principle. But it is not recommended to take it for more than a week. And that was the reason why I stopped taking it. From time to time I taked it again.

Hi Fernab,

My urologist told me to take Zyrtec everyday because the Claritin didn't do anything with his allergies.  He said it was more powerful and effective.  I actually took his advice and that was the antihistamine that ended up knocking out my brain fog for good.  It also took the fatigue completely away.

My GP said Benadryl does not work to treat inflammation very well.  However, he said, it works on histamine extremely well, discounting my theory it was inflammation causing my POIS symptoms.

I would focus on taking Zyrtec for an extended period of time, then take 50mgs of Benadryl immediately following O. This worked for me.  You may want to load up your first time trying it to say 20mgs of Zyrtec the day of, and 75-100 mgs of Benadryl immediately after O.

I think that all of us here in this forum are dreaming of reaching the same goal as you did!!

We all wish you the best and that from time to time, if you can, give us a hand with this horrible disease that you have also suffered.

Tomorrow will see my GP and will let know about Zyrtec and Benadryl...
