What Inspires You To Heal?
« on: October 01, 2014, 07:14:48 PM »
Music inspires me to heal more than any other medium of communication. When I feel empty and depressed I put on an uplifting song or one that will fuel my energy. This one has helped me immensely.

Please share.

"The Patient"

A groan of tedium escapes me,
Startling the fearful.
Is this a test? It has to be,
Otherwise I can't go on.
Draining patience, drain vitality.
This paranoid, paralyzed vampire act's a little old.

But I'm still right here
Giving blood, keeping faith
And I'm still right here.

Wait it out,
Gonna wait it out,
Be patient (wait it out).

If there were no reward to (reap / heal),
(No / A) loving embrace to see me through
This tedious path I've chosen here,
I certainly would've walked away by now.
Gonna wait it out.

If there were no desire to heal
A damaged and broken man along
This tedious path I've chosen here
I certainly would've walked away by now.

And I still may ... [sigh] ... I still may.

Be patient.
I must keep reminding myself of this.

And if there were no rewards to (reap / heal),
(No / A) loving embrace to see me through
This tedious path I've chosen here,
I certainly would've walked away by now.
And I still may.

Gonna wait it out.

For me it's women; especially ones that I like, I just fantasize of living a happy life with her and the moment i realize that POIS stands in the way I get really motivated to conquer it.

Yes, if I can put my hand on one thing that has kept my interest and faith in carrying on, at darkest POIS days, it has been music. Music for some including myself, is a rock !
However in bad POIS days, it is harder to connect with music, easier outside of the window beyond a "O" or an "NE".

This year I've started listening to The National. It's very calm and other people find it depressing, but I find that the melancholic lyrics about an individual's social anxieties and insecurities help me get through my POIS moments.

Also, I just came back from a 6 week trip to Japan. The food there was really healthy and helped get rid of residual symptoms. I did end up getting NEs twice during the trip and they were harsh but I thinks it's psychological. Just before the NEs I was feeling better than ever and couldn't stand all of a sudden going back to those symptoms I worked so hard to get away from. I had a wonderful time there and traveled with a girl that I met along the way. We got really close and made out but stayed at foreplay. At some point she wanted to go further but I didn't make so much effort to follow. I didn't want to lose the rest of my trip. I think it was the good thing to do since a week later when I got my second NE I felt like hell. Now I'm happy I've abstained and get to keep good memories. It also helped my confidence a lot to have found this girl. It's been a long time since I had a girlfriend and only had one. This got part of my confidence back and I hope to keep it.

For now I've given up trying to find treatments to this and I want to have my head clear, since I found out how much time makes a difference during this trip. But with POIS we cannot make drastic decisions and be impulsive.. (and sometimes in life these quick decisions make all the difference.. I find I've missed many opportunities in my life because of this in terms of school as well as girls and for other interests such as music). So I will now face reality and abstain as long as possible (I use melatonin and select to try to reduce libido) and on the side watch out for what food I eat (I will try to keep a Japanese diet if possible I now eat miso daily and some natto sometimes to help with gut flora).

All-in-all the nice experiences I've gotten when I was symptom free are the things inspiring me to get better. Also, I finally have a doctor doing follow ups on me and the fact that Rutger's U is doing this study, these are also things that help me feel better about all this.
Symptoms since I'm 15 y o, hair loss, muscle twitches, brain fog, anxiety, low confidence, stuffy nose, itchy eyes and skin, sensitive to temperature change, loud heartbeat. I currently use 5-htp and SAM-e.

Really cool story, Macster :) You are wise to use this as a momentum builder, it's best to embark on new changes at these times
Turmeric and Rosemary 30-45 minutes before orgasm for anti-inflammatory and immune support has helped me a lot. Faster and easier than niacin approach.

Thanks Nightingale for the encouragement. I'm mostly tired of repeating similar mistakes and having seen how I was able to better deal with situations after having abstained for a long time (I guess from simply feeling more comfortable since the symptoms were no longer overwhelming) I just want to stay that way as long as possible. I find that with symptoms as well as residual symptoms its so hard to remember what its like to really be lucid and we fall into a vicious cycle of fatigue and depression. I'm thinking of actually abstaining for as long as research finds the cause and a "cure" to this. There's so much to be enjoyed in life and I don't want it all to go away!

You could apply most of these lyrics to POIS. Like some folks have mentioned here, POIS is a soulkiller...a dehumanizer. Anyway, just wanted to share this song, keep it up:

10 years of significant POIS-reduction, treatment consisting of daily (365 days/year) testosterone patches.

TRT must be checked out carefully with your doctor due to fertility, cardiac and other risks.

40+ years of severe 4-days-POIS, married, raised a family, started/ran a business
