My Pois story - possible new treatment
« on: July 02, 2022, 06:08:59 PM »
Hello,

My Pois story began in 2018, before that dark date, i used to be very sexually active but now i avoid all types of sexual activity. Before Pois, i used to ejaculate 1-3 times every other day with no problems what so ever. Had multiple relationships and good overall health.

I was diagnosed in 2015 with GERD and peptic ulcer, the symptoms were mild and the doctor suggested that i take PPI medicine which blocks stomach acids. The medicine worked wonders, however, whenever i stop it symptoms gets worsen. The doctor suggested that i up the dose and do a surgery called ?nissen fundoplication? where the upper part of the stomach gets wrapped around the stomach sphincter in order to make it close properly. Surgery helped alot and i lessened the dose of the medications.

Year after the surgery, i went through a stupid diet where i eat a meal a day right after taking the PPI pill, after six months of which, i had weird symptoms and felt really tired all the time with achy bones and started to loose hair and developed straw like grey hair despite being 33 years old at the time and ofcourse POIS symptoms for the first time ever. Went to do a blood test, and found out that Vitamin d was almost depleted and had anemia. Vitamin d was literally depleted i almost died because of not having enough of it.

I was happy to know the cause and started to take Vitamin D injections and stopped the PPI medication. The stomach acid suppression medications causes malabsorption of minerals and vitamins. I didnt know this info before taking this stupid medication.

I took tons of Vitamin D, its now normal but the POIS symptoms persisted they even got worse with time. My knees and the joint of the two index fingers hurt all the time. After finding out about this forum, i tried the garlic and fenugreek and the first two times it was like magic, no symptoms what so ever, but after that, the solution didnt work as good as before, the symptoms were lessened by 80% and i started taking Zyrtec with them and they all help a little. P.S i take them after a N/E as i refrained from all sexual activity after POIS and i have no idea if they would help alot when taken before and after like every body is suggesting.

I dont know what the culprit is, is it the medicine or the surgery or both. I take vitamins and minerlas all the time but the grey hair and joint pain never goes away.

Does anybody have the weird hair symptoms or taken any stomach medications before developing POIS?

P.S my POIS symptoms are brain fog, headache, extreme depression, brain zaps, fatigue, irritability, anxiety, joint and muscle pain.

Welcome to the forum, Poiscurse.
What was the cause of your high stomach acidity?   Too much stress?  Bad diet?   IPP are controlling the acidity, but are not addressing the root cause.

Glad to hear that fenugreek and garlic are helping for your NE.  Those NE will always be a problem for POIS sufferers, as they usually occur without warning.

Hey Quantum,

Thank you for interacting, the cause was stress ofcourse and hiatal hernia.

I will be posting some interesting cures and possible theories behind this disease.

Upper digestive disorders such as the esophagus and stomach alter the functioning of the neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin. Hiatal hernia works by sucking all the energy from the vagus nerve generating a parasympathetic change that makes our body stay in a state of inflammation all the time.
Digestive surgeries, in addition to altering nutrient absorption, generates discouragement and depression due to the alteration of neurotransmitters and an absurd decrease in nutrient absorption.
I have followed several people who have had surgeries to lose weight or repair hiatus henia and the result in the psychological part is very bad. There is a clear lack of joy. Of course these changes take your dopamine to very low levels and this is one of the reasons we developed POIS.
Treatments with antihistamines and antidepressants can help.
But your vital energy will definitely not be the same. It's a drastic change in lifestyle and we have to adapt to this new situation.
My POIS only happens with masturbation. Normal sex does not generate POIS symptoms. My POIS is related to me mood and the health of my cervical spine. Dopamine/Inflammation/Body constitution (genetics) are factors that contribute to POIS.

That joint pain reminds me of how I discovered I was diabetic--I had joint pains so bad they would wake me at night and then I would drink 8-9 glasses of water and then 30m later pee it all out.  And this was happening several times a night and disturbing my sleep.

I went to a kidney specialist who is a friend of my father and we ran every single test we could including blood samples to the Mayo clinic and a glucose tolerance test.  The GTT indicated I was barely diabetic, but my symptoms were like a full blown instance of diabetic neuropathy from someone with decades of diabetes damage.  Besides the GTT, nothing else turned up anything other than normal results.

For my diabetes, the solution was an immediate diet change to just a bag of spinach.  Overnight my symptoms went away.  And the same spinach does help for POIS, so I'm sure there is a component that works for both, perhaps zinc.

I think the place to start would be to see the POIS chart here that goes through the various types and treatments that we have identified via crowdsourcing.  You'll know pretty quickly if a treatment works for you:

There are a lot of similar aspects to our POIS'.

Fenugreek and garlic work exceptionally well for me. However they don't seem to work as well without taking a B complex. Try taking a B complex. Also important to note, I've tried a few different B complex's and they do not all work the same. "Nature's Own" 150 B Forte works exceptionally well for me, while "LifeExentension" BioActive B Complex which supposedly should perform better as it has more "active" B vitamins does not work as well for POIS (despite it solving afternoon brain fog issues I used to experience). Give the B complex a go one more time. When I first tried fenugreek and garlic, I had to be on a gluten-free diet for it to work. Then once I found the B-complex, that was no longer necessary. All so strange... Even today my POIS solution still performs better on a gluten-free diet I would say, so also give this a try. Also did you crush/mince the garlic and wait for10 minutes before swallowing? That is an important step. I would give the fenugreek and garlic another go, because if I only did fenugreek and garlic on its own, without a B complex and on a diet with lots of gluten, it probably wouldn't work at all.

I also have had/have acid reflux. I didn't take pills for it, but I definitely took liquid gaviscon quite a few times (before I got POIS and after). Nowadays I drink a lot of milk and that naturally soothes it. Take the garlic with milk, it will act as an insulator to prevent the garlic from stinking your mouth, but it will also soothe your stomach/throat from it causing heart burn.

Our POIS symptoms are basically the same except I didn't really experience headaches. Anxiety, brainfog, irritability, extreme fatigue, joint weakness.

Acid reflux is one of my big symptoms (along with headaches, muscle pain, brain fog, digestive issues, etc).

Garlic and fenugreek helped me a bit when my general health was better, but now it does very little despite experimenting with different brands. I've taken a few B complexes (active and regular) but not sure I noticed an improvement there.

I've tried a ton of stuff for reflux, but not much help. If I don't overexert myself (I get CFS-like symptoms with any exertion), then I don't really get reflux. But any exertion and it triggers them, even more if I have any sexual activity.

Things I've tried that are more stomach-related: carnosine, d-limonene, marshmallow, slippery elm, garlic, fenugreek, pepto, mastic gum, calcium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, DGL, pepcid, tea or decaf coffee with cream or milk, etc.

Did you ever not have this?  Interesting that POIS makes it worse.

I didn't have it when my health was better. I have some issues with chronic health problems. As I've gotten older, my overall health has declined significantly, and my POIS symptoms have exactly correlated to my overall health. Difficult in my 20's, very limiting in my 30's, now pretty horrible in my 40's.

Got it.  Sounds terrible to age like that. :(

My POIS also worsened as I aged.

However, at age 65, I found a POIS treatment that mitigated some of my  worst symptoms.
10 years of significant POIS-reduction, treatment consisting of daily (365 days/year) testosterone patches.

I have no doubt now that the cause of POIS is one of three reasons:

1- low testosterone
2- Inflammation in testes-allergy
3- Gut related-inflammation-allergy

I cannot pin point the actual cause in the Gut theory, seems like lots of reasons but again inflammation is a link between all of them.

Did any body try colon cleansing or enemas and had any success?

Please take a look at these two articles were two men were successfully treated from pois:

The first one talks about inflammation in the testes

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9226701/

The second one talks about possible allergy to semen

I never thought about it until you posted, but mine has also gotten worse as I've aged.  Luckily the regiment I have discovered does help recovery, but it's still getting worse.
