POIS Summary for researchers
« on: May 23, 2013, 08:28:30 AM »
This thread is to help recompile information that could be useful to the investigators to better understand
what POIS is and what helps it or makes it worse.

I know that the whole forum is about that, but if we can kind of do a summary here.

Try to avoid extensive conversations, so as to help make the thread a sort of condensed summary of POIS
in general. If you see something that looks interesting enough to get into detail, create a thread for it aside,
and we can perhaps give links to more detailed conversation about any thoughts.
WITHOUT RESEARCH THERE WILL BE NO CURE!
Sessions 5 to 9 days, mostly Flu-like, joints, digestion problems, light cognitive.
Niacin has changed my lif though, now 1 day MAX.
Somewhere in this interaction with Niacin is the answer!

This post is a summary of some of the data gathered from the POIS forums.

The two most widely experienced symptoms seem to be cognitive impairment(brain fog) and both physical and mental exhaustion. Other common symptoms include depression, anxiety, and headaches. Less common are physical pains such as joint pain, muscle pain, or back pain. Skin problems such as psoriasis, dryness, and itchiness are sometimes reported as well as itching/burning eyes and stuffy sinuses. Gastrointestinal problems such as bloating or food sensitivities have been reported. All of these symptoms and more usually appear after orgasm/ejaculation, but can also be triggered by sexual thoughts/activity without climax. Onset of symptoms ranges from immediately after orgasm to a day (or two days?) after orgasm and usually lasts for a few days to a week or even longer in some cases.

Blood tests have returned varying results. Some have tested low in testosterone and others have been out of range for other hormones, but it seems for the most part general blood tests have not been able to reveal an underlying common mechanism causing POIS. However our testing capability is limited and with more extensive tests a common diagnostic could likely be found.

Our POIS compendium site lists the professional POIS research studies and case reports. The TLC television episode about one of our members who cured himself with surgeries to eliminate semen production is there. It also summarizes much of the hypotheses discussed and treatments tried at the forums and includes a map showing the general locations of our members around the world: https://sites.google.com/site/poiswebsite/

The ABC documentary television episode on POIS that includes Dr. Waldinger and one of his patients speaking on the subject and also includes our member, observer, who was cured with niacin is available at our youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_kqIpGUYpI

It seems to me the most widely experienced symptom of POIS is cognitive impairment

In my humble opinion, extreme fatigue is the most widely experienced symptom of POIS. I'm willing to be proven wrong. My search of fatigue yielded 1,000+ google hits at NSF since 2007.
10 years of significant POIS-reduction, treatment consisting of daily (365 days/year) testosterone patches.

TRT must be checked out carefully with your doctor due to fertility, cardiac and other risks.

Thanks demo. I've edited my post to just say that brain fog and exhaustion are both the most widely experienced.

It is definitely both of them and their two that hits the hardest for most  even if they have multiple symptoms.

This is the article that was NOT approved [it was rejected by Waldinger, according to the letter from Egypt:
http://f1000research.com/articles/2-113/v1

My opinion: it was a hurtful, unnecessary, competitive slam by W!

To emphasize to researchers, I would just like to add my approval to what has been said in this thread about our symptoms.
Turmeric and Rosemary 30-45 minutes before orgasm for anti-inflammatory and immune support has helped me a lot. Faster and easier than niacin approach.

I personal think Animus' video should be taken offline. The video is extremely miss-leading in my view. I spoke the individual about 6 six month ago and I was given access to his person diary of 5 years. He is actually very far from not having POIS. His video could lead individual to believe that surgery is a possible option. I don't believe there is any evidence to suggest that his surgery worked. I did read lots to say his condition is still there.
I think that's all I can say given confidentiality.

Also, having surgery has its own risks. We should clean up our resources and ask Waldinger to take the video offline.

Floppy, you can always contact or show your post to "Mat780".

Mat developed the POIS channel on YouTube which includes Animus' video.
