Hi there,

I'm new to this forum, and extremely grateful for discovering it! I'm a British national based in Argentina, living with POIS. I'm 35 years old and have had POIS since adolescence.
Amazingly, you might think, I have only recently discovered I have it. The reason quite simply is that, what with either masturbating or having sex or (less often) having wet dreams pretty much every or every other day of my life since puberty, I've effectively been mired in POIS perpetually, making me think POIS symptoms were an unalterable part of my reality. My symptoms are mainly cognitive, including, most harmfully, brain fog that crushes my intellect and makes me generally and socially anxious and irritable and depressed. The tremendous joy of finally discovering what's wrong with me is tempered by unbelievable frustration and regret at not making the connection earlier, and I wonder just how many other men (and women) are similarly advised to take up counselling, SSRIs etc when POIS is the root of the problem. Never mind.

Now that I've finally discovered that masturbating is rather unwise, and that taking 100mg niacin 1 hour prior to orgasm significantly lowers POIS symptoms - an absolute godsend for which I'm infinitely grateful to this forum - I'm practicing a form of abstinence where I attempt to have sex or masturbate only once a week. In the intervening period I tend to get aroused, and find it hard to suppress this process of arousal. I'm able to avoid ejaculations outright but not necessarily the onset of pre-cum. I wanted to know to what extent, if any, others on the forum feel that pre-cum leads to POIS symptoms, albeit reduced ones. Does the mere process of getting aroused - say by casually looking at porn without masturbation - lead to reduced (but perhaps not negligible?) levels of POIS. Any comments or advice on this would be very helpful. I myself feel that pre-cum does not spark POIS, at least not significantly, but I'm so anxious of putting a foot wrong right now that I'd appreciate others' views.

I'm extremely grateful for having discovered this site. Keep up the good work. Unfortunately I'm not currently in a good position financially to make any donation to future research, but will let you know if and when this might change.

cheers!

to me, pre-cum contributes to a plus minus 50% Pois session.
It started ever since my first orgasm. It lasts exactly for 7 days. Symptoms mainly in the brain: extreme mental  fatigue, difficulty concentrating, inability to comprehend/retain what is read,shortened attention span, loss of speech fluency, cloudy mindedness, mild headache, and anxiousness

Pre-ejaculate doesn't cause symptoms for me. Although recently if I have a masturbation session that lasts multiple hours I will begin to feel a fast-onset deep despair that can be lifted by orgasm, perhaps because I almost always fall asleep or become so brain-fogged that I have no ability to think or remember. However my normal POIS symptoms don't include sadness so I suspect this just to be a depletion of neurotransmitters that is caused by prolonged sexual arousal.
Taking ginger tea, no wheat, fenugreek+green tea/garlic, saw palmetto, niacin, boswellia, huperzine, B complex and nutmeg. See my treatment summary post for more info: http://poiscenter.com/forums/index.php?topic=81.msg3513#msg3513

By abstaining myself from O with normal frequency for more than ? year, I became very sensitive to any form of sexual arousal...I thought it was pre-cum at first but it's not...it can be just thinking about sex or morning erection.

Th? more I abstain myself, th? more i become exposed to POIS symptoms trigered by somethink linked to sexual arousal

Poisperson, I am really glad that you have found us. I think it definitely causes - in my case - some minor symptoms.

If you still have POIS symptoms after using niacin, maybe you can give a try to other natural methods(If you don't want to raise the niacin intake to 200 mg, for example) to make your POIS (nearly) dissappear: Fenugreek, Garlic, all kind of berries, avoid MSG and junk food...

Thanks for all the replies - really kind. It would appear - if the deterioration of my mood and the general onset of POIS symptoms over the course of the day are anything to go by - that, yes, arousal to the point of producing pre-cum is best avoided. Observer: is the niacin helpful for you after O as well as before? I'm a bit worried about taking it too much and my body getting used to it, to the point of it not working anymore...

It happens a really curious event: If I am in POIS and then I take niacin, I could experience the flush and have another "niacin" Orgasm that will wipe off my previous POIS symptoms. I am "cured" if I have a "niacin" orgasm while in POIS - If not, it will work only for a few hours.

I have been taking niacin since September 2011 and it still works fine, 90%-100% relief I would say. But I strongly suggest you to ask your doctor about it(to make blood tests frequently), since too much niacin can damage the liver. You should be careful and of course, you can't take it every day, if you have more questions, feel free to PM me,

Regards

Hey poisperson,

To echo what everyone else has said: pre-cum causes mild symptoms for me as well. Luckily, they're sufficiently weak that I can get rid of them by taking a little Fish Oil. It's anti-inflammatory properties aren't anywhere near strong enough to counteract full-on POIS but do seem to eliminate the little bit of cognitive fatigue brought on by an unanticipated boner.
POIS since I was about 15. 1.75 years of desens and I'm now about 80% POIS free. Still working through best practices for maintaining my immunity and administering my injections with my doctor. Email me if you have tips or questions!

I still haven't had the nerve to try that, especially because the last thing you feel like doing when you are in POIS is have sex. But being that it helps for you and it seems we are pretty much the same as far as niacin goes. I may give it a try if I ever get to a point where I inadvertently have POIS.

WITHOUT RESEARCH THERE WILL BE NO CURE!
Sessions 5 to 9 days, mostly Flu-like, joints, digestion problems, light cognitive.
Niacin has changed my lif though, now 1 day MAX.
Somewhere in this interaction with Niacin is the answer!

Pre-ejaculate will be released if you become sexually excited and/or have an erection so yes it can occur even without masturbation. I think all that is usually required is thinking of something sexually pleasing to you.

I don't know if it's pre-cum or just sexual stimulation that causes mild POIS symptoms.  But I just had about a 5 hour mild POIS session after some sexual stimulation.  I would really like to find out what's causing this reaction, if it's bodily hormones or sperm-related.

My POIS managed with Diet (@ diet that 100% manages my pois)Believe my POIS stems from inflammation in the gut. O = neuro POIS from inflammation from the gut

Current supps: microdose of zyrtec and gaia liquid olive leaf extract for sleep. Micro astragalus and 1tsp ev olive oil for energy .

It's a bit of an old topic, but I just did a test where I didn't do anything sexual for a week, and wow, it was a huge difference.   Not 100% better but I felt like I could do way more things and socialize more.

I tried edging myself and not doing the full O, but I've come to the conclusion that having myself pre-cum has the same effect, if slightly diminished, but noticable enough.

Any sexual thoughts, sexual gratification for even a second, and I go into half or fullblown POIS. 1 month so far, and I haven't masturbated or watched porn.

So far so good though. Feeling pretty decent, and haven't had any major anxiety attacks as I usually do.
