Reality

Today, I came to the conclusion that this problem we have will not be solved any time soon and that the cure may come after the death of many who are here on this forum, including me.

After everything I have done for myself and always believing that I would find a definitive cure, I understood that it is not going to get anywhere. This is a life sentence!

Now, recently, I began to realize that the problem with P.O.I.S is in the pineal gland (amygdala).

The big problem may be that it works much more slowly after orgasm and certainly takes a long time to give the command to produce some hormones and substances such as taurine.

I don't know about others, but in me, I believe that what caused this to happen was that I lived my whole life constantly stressed and always on the alert for danger with constant anxiety and this made me take it all out on masturbation.

But, that is a story for another episode!

I just want to say that because the problem is in the pineal gland and science doesn't know much about it, we certainly won't find a definitive cure for all of this any time soon.
Hopefully, yes, but unfortunately, today reality hit me like a fall on concrete!

Robson, sad but probably true.

I was here at the start of our predecessor forum in 2007, and now I’m age 78 & still waiting! :(

10 years of significant POIS-reduction, treatment consisting of weekly (52 weeks/year) testosterone self-injections.

TRT must be checked out carefully with your doctor due to fertility, cardiac and other risks.

40+ years of severe 4-days-POIS, married, raised a family, started/ran a business.

I came to the same realization two years ago. I was quite sad at first, but then kept reminding myself that we are humans, we adapt with whatever card we're dealt with. And POIS is the card we're dealt with in life.
I started to think of it as an extra limb of my body, something I'll live with and take to my grave. Thus I adjusted my entire outlook of life accordingly. Kept my expectations in check, abandoned any grand ambitions and dreams I would've accomplished had I been cured. And focused just on how to lead a balanced life to get the most joy out of it.

Abandoning is a harsh word, but I seen many people like Quantum in this forum who despite the worst that come out of pois, you can come out of it just fine. You'll just have to live with whatever treatments work for you. Some took 5 years, others took 10 or 20 or even 30. These guys fill me with inspiration that at the end of this road, a balanced life is waiting for me. Yeah it is not perfect, but it's the card we're dealt with.

Only after reaching the balanced life goal I might think of chasing any grand ambitions or dreams left, where POIS wouldn't affect me emotionally that much.

Thanks to this mindset, I can now focus more on treatments accurately instead of the cure.

In the past I would abandon the experiments quickly even if the treatment works partially, because I was so obsessed in the idea of CURE that I would dismiss anything else. But now that I put the idea of a 'CURE' is out of the picture, I can focus, analyze, and execute experiments more thoughtfully and come out with actual results. My mindset right now is more of a "If I mix treatment A that worked and treatment B then C, it might lead me to a balanced life where I choose the RIGHT time for me to suffer the symptoms, and recover from them as fast as possible", instead of the mindset of "if this treatment doesn't cure me, I willl abandon all hope."

Hi guys , sad to hear this. I have been with POIS for the past 20 years and I have never taken any treatment nor visited doctors to get treatment for it. Imagine I am living in poor county, in Ethiopia where no hope could be available at all to get any treatment. however as I am a believer of Jesus Christ I always put trust up on him that one day either I will get treatment scientifically or through God miracle. I am still trying to manage the POIS through food , exercise and positive life style but it is obvious that it is very very hard struggle. I am very well understand your frustration but I don't think that the disease is that much difficult and complex to get treatment but the only challenge I observed is that it hasn't got sufficient attention from the researchers due to the fact that epidemiologically there is small prevalence rate globally. Hope that such advocacy effort could bring change soon.

When will they start recruiting? Is there an age floor for the people they?ll recruit? Can teenagers with POIS be recruited?

Though we’re in the midst of raging L.A. wildfires, we’re still hoping to recruit in February-March.

And, young poiser,  as the researchers indicate, “we absolutely cannot recruit youth.

Age must be 18+.”

Thanks demografx, this is great news and an interesting hope for POSERs. Is there any possibilities you could participate a person living in Africa? apologies for this silly question!

Possibly, and also if they can arrange travel round-trip to Los Angeles.

By “possibly”, I mean to say there is a pre-qualification test that is taken by prospective research participants to see if they qualify.

Hopefully, this test will be available soon online.

The researchers will talk to each volunteer individually if they qualify, are interested, and select a date to come in. The generous funding from the Fulton Foundation does cover some travel expenses for participants in the POIS condition (not the healthy control participants), so please speak to the researcher about your travel plans when making your lab appointment. They also are able to cover on-campus parking during lab appointments.

Thank you very much for your interest!
