After spending a lot of time on "modern" sites with larger text, better smoother designs back to here, it makes the eyes hurt and puts tension in the head due to the variety
Upgrading this site to XenForo which has more "modern" themes would increase members as many may get repulsed when they come here even if they have POIS and something interesting to contribute
/r/POIS subreddit is growing very fast due to the fact that it's Reddit which is easier to use and better looking
If this forum doesn't improve it will stagnate
Hi Journey,
as Cursed said, it's been a while now since I have installed more modern themes here ( 2020-12). If you prefer a dark theme ( as I suppose from your comment about eyes hurting), just switch to the Boru or Sunrise theme ( go to profile, look and layout). The later is both a light and dark theme - you toggle between both modes in a single click. For your information, almost all members are still using the default original theme. Only I and 2 other members are using the Sunrise theme, and no one is using the Boru theme. So, don't expect me to add any other themes, there is no demand for them, so my time here is better spent on more useful tasks.
I am not a fan of the Reddit display and format - no categories, no possibility to browse a board with similar topics, very poor visibility for great posts made some time ago ( unless you make a search, you will not see them), and so on. I am glad there is a POIS forum on Reddit, even if I rarely go there. And now, hopefully, there seems to be some more moderation and it is no more a "wild" place where a post could receive some not really kind replies, and where not so nice posts could stay at the top without any intervention. In my opinion, quality content is more important than having a modern and top-of-art format. Besides, Poiscenter is not dependent on some large platform like Reddit, we are a standalone website. And, our goal is not to compete with the large websites with huge staff and a huge budgets.
Well, you are totally entitled to have a different taste than mine, and you may prefer Reddit. Besides, I already have a lot to do here, as a moderator and admin, so I have chosen many years ago to concentrate my involvement here only.
Keep in mind that poiscenter is much more than just the software used to support the forum. The upcoming POIS 2022 study, funded by members here, is a unique initiative. Also, all the efforts made in contacting medical teams, have led to results like the 2019 POIS Survey, Dr Natale's experiment in 2020, the POIS study panel(ongoing)... and the easily accessible and informative threads like the POIS Types Chart, the POIS Papers Archive, the POIS Doctors list,... See the "Newcomers, Start Here" board, the one on top of the homepage, for links to those threads and others, and for other valuable information.
