SLEEP: a treatment for POIS?
« on: October 31, 2018, 05:27:07 PM »
SLEEP has always been important to me as an adjunct to my main treatment of testosterone.

Once, on POIS:Day Zero (the day of POIS onset), I slept - - or kept my eyes closed - - day and night, almost round the clock, including *forced sleep* with Benadryl (but only taken as directed). The result: a much, much easier POIS:Day One.

This is not easy to implement, I know, especially with work, school, family, responsibilities, etc. But even short snoozes/naps help me.

Any other similar experiences?

10 years of significant POIS-reduction, treatment consisting of daily (365 days/year) testosterone patches.

TRT must be checked out carefully with your doctor due to fertility, cardiac and other risks.

40+ years of severe 4-days-POIS, married, raised a family, started/ran a business

Yes more sleep gives me faster recovery times and less intensive POIS. But..this needs to be sleep, laying in bed awake doesn't work. When I put too many blankets on top of me and getting too warm as a results it has the opposite effect, I can wake up completely wrecked. I suspect the sleeping period being beneficial has to do with trigger avoidance. You barely move in your sleep, you are not eating, temperature is pretty stable. Perhaps hormones could play a role here, I don't know. I don't see how it could be a treatment though.

Agree. The recovery is shorter if I have a good night of sleep.
Bodybuilders recommand to have good sleep after training and less stress to optimize testosterone levels, reduce cortisol and then increase muscle growth.
Taurine = Anti-Pois

I noticed that my brain switches to a slightly tense state as soon as I wake up. I'm starting to think that the brain is in an overactive state. The sleeping will help because it calms down the brain.

Have you considered that you might be in a De-realized state? (known as depersonalization/derealization disorder).  I think I have it at least to some degree - the feeling as if one is living through a dream.  I did not think this before, but POIS may even be a manifestation of derealization - traumatic events that we underwent during childhood causing a chronically heightened fight/flight response, where we learnt this depersonalization as a coping method/strategy for survival, and since it has been so chronic, that now we dont even realize that we are frozen in this chronic fight/flight mode.

b_jim was discussing derealization here in 2007!
