Bromine was introduced into medical practice by Fran?ois Magendie in Bordeaux (France) and subsequently, in the 1830s and ?40s, bromide was extensively used as a substitute for iodine in a variety of disorders (Garrison, 1960). It was only in the mid-1850s that Charles Lockock, a London internist, discovered the anticonvulsant property and sedative action of the drug. It was one of the many quaint examples of serendipity in which a false theory led to correct empirical results. Lockock, like many physicians in his time, believed that convulsions and epilepsy were caused by masturbation and since bromides were known to curb sex drive, he administered potassium bromide with the rationale that by reducing the frequency of masturbation he will be able to control epileptic seizures (convulsions) in his patient (Lehmann and Ban, 1970). The treatment was a success insofar as control of convulsions was concerned. It also focused attention on the sedating properties of the drug (Ban, 2006).

I personally think fluoride maybe a possible cause of POIS because it accumulates in the body ( especially aorta , skeleton , cartilage and thyroid ) fluoride displaces both bromide and iodine in the thyriod. 50 % of the fluoride is absorbed and usually stays in the body for months if not years. Fluoride can permanently stored in the thryoid and skeleton and displaces both bromide and iodine from the thyroid. Chlorine is also involved by i haven't read in depth about that , my uncle had an allergy to chlorine which is peculair.

Bromide and iodine can displace fluoride from the thyroid in high dosages , the dosages of bromide and iodine are high which are toxic by themselfs  (but of course far less toxic than fluoride). Bromide is NEEDED in the thyroid  , the human body contains extremely low amounts thus is displaced rather quickly by fluorine. Bromide and iodine absorption are related and both needed for absorption and funtion in the thyroid. Bromide displaces both iodine and fluoride and iodine can displace bromide as well. Other ways where where fluoride can be displaced is by injury and bruised/broken bones, auto-immune diseases and inflammation. Fluoride is known to cause muscoskeletal issues which i have, i have warped bones/ ribs  (pectus ).

Fluoride is known to react heavily to iron just like hydrogen peroxide which long term may cause iron deficiency. altho lower levels or iron may be due to infections. Fluoride in high levels OR locally high levels can damage endothelial issue and may cause permanent endothelial dysfunction .

Is it possible to test Flouride levels, and if found high, how do we decrease it ?
