Treatment with mushrooms
« on: May 22, 2016, 07:57:59 AM »
Hi everyone,

Let me introduce myself, I'm 21 and I have strong psycho and physical symptoms.

I tried magic mushrooms (psilocyb) 3 times while I was on pois and I experienced something very strange every time. At first I had the effect of the mushrooms but after 3 hours I started to feel very good, my mind was cristal clear, I could speak to anyone and I had real self-confidence. The exact opposit of my pois. Of course the next morning I was on pois again but it was increadible. My friends / girlfriend didn't experienced this second stage at all.

Two days ago I found this: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/2016/05/17/magic-mushrooms-lifts-severe-depression-in-trial/

I always knew mushrooms was a kind of treatment for my pois but I couldn't imagine being treated with it due to the natural effects of mushrooms. Now I'm starting to think about it seriously.

Maybe we should contact Dr Robin Carhart-Harris.

I also want to say that this forum helped me a lot and I strongly believe that we should continue our work here. Even if we don't find something in the next years, let's think about the next generation, how our work can help them and give them a better life.

I also think we should make more noise (in a way or another):
- to gather all people with pois but not aware of it, and I'm sure there is a lot more and they are in pain
- to raise awareness of doctors, in order for them to identify someone with pois immediatly.

Sincerely

POISse

Hi POISse,

About psilocybin, I read the article about the study, but it will for sure raise a lot of controversy, and I doubt psilocybin will be available anytime soon on presciption... and it sure is dangerous to try in a uncontrolled setting, without medical supervision - some persons may be less lucky than you and have severe side effects.

when you say that the POIS next morning was "incredible", do you mean there was a kind of backlash and it was worst than usual ?

--

You are right, it is important to gather POIS sufferers here.  One of the thing that amazes me is, I have last year put the link to this forum in the "External links" section of the wikipedia article about POIS, and it has been deleted  ( it seems that wikipedian reviewers have decided, as policy for every health conditions, that links to support groups are not acceptable in wikipedia).

I think than that we should be creative, as have been done for the Multiple Sclerosis page.  There is a wikipedia article that has been created, called "List of multiple sclerosis association", and a link to it has been put in the "See also" section of the Multiple sclerosis page. For now, It seems that non-scientific links in the "See also" section are accepted on Wikipedia ( as years go by, rules are more and more complicated on Wikipedia, so who knows if ti will stay like that...)  .  If a Wikipedia page about POIScenter was created, we could than put the link on a "See also" section of the "scientific" POIS page, which can be found at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postorgasmic_illness_syndrome .  But, I have not enough experience with Wikipedia to create a POIScenter wikipedia page, and create a "See also" on the medical POIS page to insert a link to this page.  Is anyone well-versed in Wikipedia article creation that could help with that?

Your can't take magic mushrooms without having pscho effects. I know that it can prevent POIS kicking in.
Magic mushrooms will effect your outlook on life for a very long time. It is simply not a ling term treatment option in my view, although may have some medical research insight.

@Quantum: I meant the feeling of this second stage was increadible not the pois on the next morning. I agree, taking mushrooms can be dangerous if you don't take some precautions and I don't advise anyone to take some on their own. This type of treatment will not be available anytime soon indeed but from my personnal experience it is worth trying it. By the way if someone else tried magic mushrooms before while on pois and experienced the same thing I did (and I'm talking about this second stage here not the psycho effect) I'll be glad to here from you.

I am 100% with your idea of linking wikipedia with the forum. Another thing I believe important is to involve the medias. The more they talk about us, the more people will realize their sickness and join the forum. Once we will be more important, research and funds will be attracted (it is all about money right?).
Involving the media doesn't imply big means, one single information can be broadcast all over the world if it is the right one.

@FloppyBanana you are probably right you can't have the second effect without having the psycho effect first. This being said, the article mention people free of depression 3 months after the treatment. Therefore I can only suppose that the psycho effect have disapeared a long time ago.

I have taken mushrooms for over 7 years now , for 6 months i took low dosages ( 1 to 5 grams of fresh mushroom ) daily . I have both tried them with and without harmaline.

It doesn't alleviate pois and makes some of the symptoms worse. Also if you dose daily in the long run you get depression and all kinds of emotional problems. If you dose for a few days you get severe brainfog and other issues. It alleviates the muscle fatigue and help a bit with the pain but not enough for long term usage.

It gives a benefical effect when you take them once a week or maybe 2 weeks (depending on dosage ) . I know what the OP is trying to do here but mushrooms are not suitable for daily dosing and like any other psychedelic or psychoactive medicine lowers 5HT levels , alters 5HT receptor sensitivity and causes HDDP disorder that may take up to 2 years to resolve.

I also microdosed LSD and other psychedelics daily or on a weekly cycle, at first it seems to help but in the long run you get adverse effects even when you don't use it for a few weeks.

Thank you for this statement Lodewijkp. It is now clear that we don't have a solution here.

From less_fogged's Natural News link above.

No, I'm not endorsing psychedelics for depression -- or POIS.

Just personally, I will not (because of possibly bizarre mental/emotional side effects) venture anywhere near them.

I've never tried the magic mushrooms for POIS and probably will never do it as it's not feasible family wise and I'm not so interested in it anymore, but I wanted to note:

What I should mention also: In the last years (many years) I almost never felt sad or sad-depressed. I can feel lethargic. I can feel post-POIS pain or post exercational malaise. I can feel super unmotivated. I can feel brain foggy. But never sad.
I had periods in life where I was feeling really sad depressed very often and for long times. I thought life was bad, I'll never find my love, I'm not attractive etc etc. I was driving people away with my self pity.
I don't really know/when this stopped. For sure my diet must have improved or some gut bacteria might have changed.
BUT... I also had several trips with magic mushrooms (psilocybin) over the years when I was maybe between 24 and 30. I also took LSD maybe 3 times.
So draw your own conclusions from that please, in a safe setting this probably changed my life :-)

(In general because of differences with dopamine etc,  I feel a lot of POISers are keen for drugs. I tried Amphetamine, Ketamine, I used to love alcohol etc. But magic mushrooms are different, they are more for feeling yourself and feeling nature, they are not for going for that extroverted party dancing action. Nowadays I don't even drink alcohol anymore, I get hungover very easily (CFS symptom?) and I'm a family guy now)

Thanks for cross-posting that, very interesting. One of the few things I've never tried for POIS  :)

Every time I've used serotonergic supplements and drugs, depersonalisation symptoms start to set in after a while, eg: I tried microdosing Psilocybin a few months ago and this happened, same thing happens with serotonergic supplements and antidepressants.

So best for me not to mess around with serotonin.

Micro-dosing psylocibin - scientific studies for anxiety and depression
« Reply #12 on: August 23, 2022, 11:23:30 AM »
Has anyone tried micro-dosing mushrooms or DMT on POIS? I don't mean within POIS itself. Many, if not most POISers suffer anxiety and/or depression in daily life, and POIS really just takes it to a whole new level. The science is taking off around Psylocibin lately. Tedtalks, psychologists, scientists, etc... Especially given the latest scientific study concluding no evidence suggests that depression is linked to serotonin... People are becoming more open... Mushrooms are NATURAL.

Has anyone tried micro-dosing mushrooms or DMT for a few weeks and seen any results on POIS? It is legal in several countries, and decriminalised in many others, including the U.S in some states, and studies on micro-dosing psylocibin are now allowed for research purposes into anxiety and depression in the US due to the amazing results so many people have seen, even with PTSD.

I am more interested in micro-dosing than full-on trips, to keep baseline anxiety levels low, which could really make our immune systems stronger to reduce the levels of inflammation from orgasm.

Anyone?

Iwillbeatthis, did the mushrooms give you depersonalisation all the time - not just within POIS? You mentioned it helped your brain function a lot better.
I am interested in your experience, and others.

I will be in a city shortly where psylocibin is everywhere and am considering micro-dosing to test it out. The effects may be different for many people. I wonder if you took too much in your micro-dose, or if you took it within a POIS episode. I probably wouldn't take it within POIS to start. My idea is first to test it outside of POIS to see how the body reacts.

I have been amazed by the scientific research coming out...
