POISer's population
« on: September 01, 2014, 11:05:25 AM »
Just curious. Except our community with more or less one thousand sufferers, plus some others on the NSF forum and the Russian forum, how many more men do you believe are out there, suffer and don't know even their condition's name or even it's existance ? I think it would be fascinating to know, though for now we can only predict. So predict !

Believe it or not, i voted ''thousands''! Especially in Middle East and Asia, even Africa, there has to be many more but don't have the means and proper education to identify their illness.

I believe that the answer should be millions!  Just think about the way you knew about POIS. For me it took me years  just to figure out the symptoms that happens to me after ejaculation. No one is talking about it and it really hard for anyone to find this forum or to read about this condition unless he has a very good internet searching skills.

And here is the point, the more we let others know about this condition , the more chance to figure out the real percentage of affected people.

Yes, great question Chris. In my mind, there's no doubt there are A LOT more POIS sufferers out there. I think the POISers on the forums are just the tip of a very large iceberg. I voted thousands, but who knows, it's totally possible there are millions more like us waiting for answers & a cure. From a cure finding standpoint, I think this is great news, since the more of us there are, the more effort will be put in to find that cure.

There must be so many thousands of men out there, English speaking and from other countries, who would never get to know about the fact they are not alone, until POIS makes it's credible way into medical circles.

I searched periodically for years under various terms in google and never found anything until last year.

So it must follow that because this is a condition that most of us have suffered in silence, there will remain many thousands who are doing the same. Also bear in mind, whatever about in English, the chances for a person speaking any of dozens of languages finding something useful is very slight. It was great that someone set up a Spanish language page etc.

Google has developed so much in the last 5 years as a clever search engine, and if resources are ever there, and more medical publications are available online and to GP's, creating awareness about this, only then can opportunities to grow awareness develop, media will cover (cause it is a human and sexual interest topic) and the true picture may emerge.

Who knows, it could rise to millions if not resolved now. It could be
Millions now. It is not exactly my first point of discussion when I meet my life long friends, in fact it has never featured even in 1-1 with the guys. I have just disappeared (for decades) from socialising for days, when I am in POIS days. Just like most of you.

Just checked the poll today, and i was surprised to found that almost half of the voters think that POIS sufferers all-over are millions! Initially, i wouldn't even include this option, as i thought it is impossible and that's why i put the marks and the smiley on the option. But actually many members of the forum voted this option and i would certainly like to be informed from them on this thread, why they believe that there are millions POIS sufferers existing at this moment. It would really be both interesting and fascinating for me because for a long time i believed that this is a rare disorder and we are actually very alone. It was also a shock for me to read that even in this poll past replies, none excluded the millions option while Jimmy is almost certain of that!

I am doubtful it is in the millions.

Reasons:

1) It is easy to find us on the internet now, from our forums to many viral posts on reddit.com, to various articles writing about "this crazy disease you won't believe!"

2) The internet removes fear of being "outed". In other words, you are anonymous. There is very little reason not to speak up

Tens of thousands is what I'm sticking to. Which is enough for an army! This ice bucket challenge for ALS? They estimate 30,000 people are suffering from it right now in the United States. Look at how much attention it has gotten, and how much more people know about it! I think our illness is just waiting to get recognized as a true diagnosis, and then can you imagine how many people will be curious about us?? I think we are small in number but will catch the world's eye when studies get published
Turmeric and Rosemary 30-45 minutes before orgasm for anti-inflammatory and immune support has helped me a lot. Faster and easier than niacin approach.

What about the huge NON-computer-literate male population?
10 years of significant POIS-reduction, treatment consisting of daily (365 days/year) testosterone patches.

TRT must be checked out carefully with your doctor due to fertility, cardiac and other risks.

40+ years of severe 4-days-POIS, married, raised a family, started/ran a business

Nightingale, we guesstimated 1% males-have-POIS  for Wikipedia.

You're right!

Probably way too high: 1% of world males = 35 million male POISers!!

There is no option for tens or hundreds of thousands. One million people is one in every 7243. Isn't that still rare enough (a question, not rhetorical)?

Well, that's all included in the ''Thousands'' option. I think, there is a big difference between 1 out of 7243 against 1 million to 7 billions because 1 million people is still a very huge number and i wouldn't considered the disease rare if indeed there is one million POIS sufferers in the world. The real problem is that if there is a million POISer's right now, only the 1% of them actually know they have this disorder. The rest 99% is unware.

I would guess around 1 million or so. Which is only about 1/10,000 of the world population.

Genius level IQs 1/300 to /1000. POIS would be exceedingly rare if it is less than 1/1000 which is at least 2 standard deviations above or below the norm.

There is no way of knowing since China and India would have the most accurate sample sizes and they do not all have web access or speak English. Plus you must consider misdiagnosed Psych disorders where ppl don't mention sexual symptoms or are aware of them. I think the numbers are greater than we think, yet this syndrome doesn't manifest in the same extreme in everyone.

This is a stretch, but- Why would Buddhists, Hindus and Christians all write about the importance of abstinence in some degree if some of them knew it would save them energy and vitality to a greater degree than most. Is that a form of POIS?

It's nearly impossible to accurately measure what you are asking with what we know, yet a very good/interesting question.

And the 30% of the world who has no way of communicating such information due to poverty.
37 yo M- POIS for 25yrs (since age 12). Chronic POIS- always there

Tried desensitization for 1.5yrs & was unsuccessful (POIS worse at 1/1000)

Exercising- (running/weights/situps) Low sugar diet. Supplements- limited success.Meds- Oxcarbazepine/Buspar (past-Depakote10yrs)

Perhaps, we should try to know, using the web, how many we are.
And the research will study finally the pois ......
