Does crying cause you somewhat of a POIS episode?
« on: August 24, 2014, 09:43:18 PM »
So I've noticed over the years and more recently that if I begin to tear or cry I experience a POIS-like episode following that and the next day or so.  It is probably about 50% the intensity of my regular POIS and keep in mind that my POIS is 100% in my head and is basically extreme mental agony where the "O" is experienced (somewhere around the pituitary).  I believe it is in this area where a certain hormone gets released either by the pituitary or somewhere else that my body is having an extreme reaction to.  If crying does cause about half of a POIS episode or more, that would mean that the same hormone that is released when I cry is also released when I have an orgasm (assuming I am not allergic to multiple hormones).  I am trying to narrow down the exact hormone that I may be allergic to (also assuming it is an allergy), and I also am wondering if anybody else with POIS similar to mine has the same reaction if the cry or tear up.
My POIS managed with Diet (@ diet that 100% manages my pois)Believe my POIS stems from inflammation in the gut. O = neuro POIS from inflammation from the gut

supps: microdose zyrtec if needed for food sens. ibuprofen for infl. as needed. Melatonin as needed. Big Pinch Black cumin  seeds once daily

It's been a long time since the last time i cried, but even if somehow, something bad happened and i cry, i don't feel that i would get symptoms. Only the psychological mess-up due to the ''bad event'' that made me cry.

I do get symptoms though, when i get very angy, shout and fight with someone. This really affect negatively my POIS.

Fascinating topic! For me, I can't remember feeling any symptoms after crying, but what I can say is that if I do get any symptoms, they aren't nearly as severe as the symptoms I get after an orgasm. Does anyone else feel any symptoms after crying? If so, this would be a very compelling subject to look into and see how everything might tie together. Good question glc.

:] ps: No crying!

I've never felt POIS Symptoms from crying, in fact, when I'm in POIS, crying makes me feel a little better for a while.
Symptoms last 6-7 days. Onset of muscle weakness after 30 seconds. Symptoms include: brain fog, fatigue, depression, pale skin/dark circles under eyes,  digestive problems, difficulty taking a full breath, irritability. NONE of these are present out of POIS.

Hey GLC, glad you are back and posting in the forum. I hope you never distant yourself from the forum, because it's been a while since your last post. One question, I see in your profile you live in New Jersey, did you fill the application for the study ? Do you want to participate ? You live close.

I couldn't cry for 10yrs or so. 16-26 yrs old. That could be the trauma related to POIS, yet I couldn't even feel that feeling in your throat for yrs. I call it POIS emotional numbness (you feel too much and then nothing at all). It's horrible.

After that, I found that I can cry and it is erratic and related to a POIS episode... The smallest thing that makes no sense can set it off. I also found w/ this crying switch my symptoms did intensify around 26yrs old. More than anything it is switch between a hyper-emotional state and flat affect with overwhelming numbness. I have talked to psychiatrists and psychologists who are aware of POIS about my switches and they say it is not bipolar and more an anxiety-driven, OCD-fueled emotional state, which switches to numbness to compensate for the overwhelming feeling. Almost self-protective. But we all understand that POIS anxiety/OCD differs from many other forms in that our bodies go into a hyper-arousal as well. Not somataform disorder, which cannot explain some of our physical symptoms. Or perhaps we epitomize somataform, yet science is finally looking into the body/mind impetus...? I don't know. All I do know is this shit is not in my head, but sends my head off a cliff when it goes haywire. It feels like body then mind, then cyclical when things escalate, which is why psychiatry tends to handle use more often than anyone.. Clearly, they don't know though. And, I am convinced POIS is regulatory with possible autoimmune connections...

I should add, with the increase in crying I experienced, I have more palpitations than ever before.

Whenever I tried to quit my antidepressant (periodically) over the last decades, with my GP monitoring results...I tend to cry over nothing. Not bigtime crying, but enough to convince me I'll have to stay on an antidepressant indefinitely.
10 years of significant POIS-reduction, treatment consisting of daily (365 days/year) testosterone patches.

TRT must be checked out carefully with your doctor due to fertility, cardiac and other risks.

40+ years of severe 4-days-POIS, married, raised a family, started/ran a business

I also feel the POIS emotional numbness sometimes, where emotions are dulled big time.

I have always considered crying to be a sign of strength, so I find it odd that you see it as a reason to stay on antidepressants.

G-man, generally I would agree with you, but after decades of observation, I see that "depression-induced crying" (at least in my case) is generally...trivial. I would literally "cry over spilt milk". Or if I couldn't find my glasses temporarily. The tiniest "sadness" would trigger my crying. I don't want that. A friend died recently. I cried. That to me is normal. Dropping a pencil accidentally and crying over it is not. Hope that explains better.

Not to worry GC - that is totally understandable. Keep up with what's working well for you because experiencing POIS is so bad, especially when you need your brain, like you mentioned. There are fortunately several others that live fairly close by too. So it's okay! :]

As far as I remember Prolactin induces crying but not sure if vice-versa too but since you say it's felt around the pituitary area and as orgasm releases that too so it could be that so could POIS be caused by autoimmunity towards Prolactin has someone tried completely inhibiting Prolactin using Dopamine agonists like Bromociptine or Cabergoline so that it cannot be physically released so based on that it could be seen if that changes POIS and if that did it could mean once Prolactin isn't released anymore the autoimmunity doesn't happen anymore.
