POIS, a pain in the Ass? Apart from the obvious...
« on: January 07, 2014, 06:10:38 PM »
Before you answer the above titled question I would like you to consider the following:

Since puberty (way back in the eighties) I would often get a pain in my ass (backside, Bum,  around the perinium). It would happen in two senarios:

1) After masterbation (but this has not happened in years now)
2) Wake up in the middle of the night, seemingly randomly, and not particulary close to an "O"

I have had this on and off for 25 years. Maybe one a month approx it happens. I have denied myself any link to POIS because I seem to get the pain randomly and POIS was always a constant cycle of 7 days of guaranteed sh*t.
In order for me to get rid of this pain I have to stand up (usually get out of bed) and put my weight on my right heel then transfer the weight to my other heel and then keep alternating back and forth. A bit like a cat making dough if you have every seen it. Sometimes the pain can go after 5 minutes but sometimes longer like 20 mins, with excruciating pain, leading me to march around the house of my heels like an idiot, often swearing because the pain is so bad. I can also relieve the muscle tightening by touching my toes with hands and stretching hard.

It some sort of spasm. I have slim athletic frame and muscle. Is this common among POIS sufferers? On some occasions I have experienced great relief after having one of these painful turns then slept very well.
I welcome any input - FloppyB

Wow. I'm sorry to hear about that.

I sometimes get random sharp pains in my anus, but they only last a couple of seconds, and then vanish as soon as they came. Still very mysterious though.

Do you think you might have hemorrhoids?
Affected since Sept 2008. Very gradual onset of symptoms: Testicular atrophy, low libido, brain fog, lethargy, depression, digestion issues. Worsening of all symptoms the 3-4 days post orgasm.

Hi FB,

Perhaps there's an irritated nerve in your lower back...maybe there's pressure on one or more of the sacral nerves (having nothing to do with POIS).

There may even be a cyst (a frequently over-looked condition that can lead to severe episodes of rectal and/or pelvic pain).  I recall discussing this with a patient who had contacted me through NORD -- the diagnosis was made after several years of worsening pain. His doc eventually ordered a full sacral spine MRI (S1-S5) -- all the way to the coccyx/tailbone.

I kept that email because it seemed so unusual to me at the time, but it really isn't so unusual.  It's just misdiagnosed because the proper MRI doesn't get ordered!

It might be worthwhile to discuss this possibility with your doc, or to at least ask to have that MRI done.

Best wishes,
Stef

Hi Stef,

For some reason which I can't understand I have only your response. Thanks for your advise. I'm hoping to get an MRI in the near future.

I somewhat see a link with the POIS and the Coccyx pain. The tail bone pain. It only occurs when I have been in a second O or a very intense one. Doctor has said that if probably occurs due to some injury in the past which might be true, but the pain definitely occurs and rises after an O like an inflamed wound
