Creatine and Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata)
« on: November 20, 2022, 03:59:48 PM »
Has anyone tried one or bot of these for POIS related anxiety?

I feel like Creatine really makes me happier but I get severe side effects like left chest pains and sth like brain zapps. Shall I take lower doses or take it just on some days and have days off it? Creatine is serotogenic.

Passionflower is said to be good for sleep but can also be serotogenic so never take it on days you take Creatine. They say it helps a lot.

Hi Xeon,

I tried creatine a while ago, but I had a rather rare side effect with it.  I would pee a lot, about 4 times more often than usual.  This should be related to its osmotic properties.   I found some mention of this side effect on the web, but it seems to be a very uncommon occurrence.  Nevertheless, I had to stop, it was very annoying, and it was interfering with my daily activities.

I took some passiflora in the past when I still had anxiety problems.  The effect was rather mild (but I had high anxiety, especially during a POIS attack).  Later I found l-theanine, and it was more effective for my anxiety, along with omega-3 and magnesium.  But I guess one has to try some different supplements, our genomics are so different, we do not react the same to a specific supplement.

While creatine was a little useful for my POIS symptoms, I also developed a stronger chest inflammation on it. In my case it was not a heart issue, but some lymphatic problem. Aside from creatine I often have this recurrent chest pain. On one such occasion I had a blood test and it showed a significantly elevated creatine phosphokinase (CPK), which may indicate some association. It may be interesting to note that prednisone can reduce a high CPK and some people here used that with some success. Unfortunately doctors are rather unwilling to give me any prescriptions, so whether it could help remains a mystery. Still you may want to check your CPK if it is a regular issue.
I also found passionflower somewhat useful, but mostly for gut issues. You can find some details in my personal thread by searching for relevant items. I try a lot of supplements, but only for a few days, so they are not considered as strong evidence.

The cause is probably the senescence of sexual organs and resultant inducible SASP, which also acts as a kind of non-diabetic metabolic syndrome.
