Doing better nowadays - what's working

Don't get me wrong, I still feel the "day after" slightly depressive and sometimes the slight allergy effects of POIS but here is what is working for me, after years of battling POIS.  I have made significant improvement to where POIS is not preventing me from living anymore.

  • I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and now taking medication for this.  This also treats my anxiety
  • Drink plenty of water
  • I have been using a CPAP sleeping machine for several years now.  Doctor gradually increased my pressure over time so I am now at the high end of pressure setting.  Sleep is the bedrock of all health.  If you get quality sleep you will feel good during the day
  • I take a regular allergy pill either before ejaculation or the days afterwards.
  • Get up early, go for a walk outside immediately.  Go to sleep early
  • Sunlight.  It boosts energy levels and staves off depression
  • Take multivitamin
  • BREATHE.  Can't emphasize this enough.  Get nice diaphragmatic breaths.  In through nose, out through mouth.  Practice breathing all day long every day. It is relaxing
  • Eat well -- a well balanced diet of fruits, veggies, bread, dairy, nuts, protein, etc.  Avoid processed and sugary foods
  • Moderate exercise.
  • Masturbate/have sex less frequently. Try not to ejaculate more than once in a short period of time.  It can be draining and taxing on the body
  • Find a job/career/volunteer work where you can contribute to society and feel productive and take your mind off your own problems
  • I take Vitamin D megadose once per week as preascribed by doctor, but you can also take a low dose daily or just get more sunlight each week
  • Reduce stress.  Be positive.  Think positively/affirmatively, not negatively.  Seek to build, to create, to improve, NOT to criticize, NOT to destroy.  Be a value contributor, not a value detractor.
  • You get out of your body what you put in.  So put in healthy and positive stuff and you will feel more positive.
  • See our current society for what it is.  A degenerate old world order where people work 24/7, are stressed out, fat, overworked, unhealthy, angry and depressed.  But you don't have to be the same way.  You can be a shining beacon of light and positivity among the chaos and disorder

This sounds great.
I can agree with most of your points. Maybe I would add "Keep your fluid intake up to keep your system going, also for detox etc etc"

Maybe I ask what the medicine is that you're taking? Might corelate with what some others on the forum write.

For nearly a decade the doctors prescribed many antidepressants to me, all the usual suspects.  They did little to nothing for me.  Recently a psychiatrist diagnosed me with bipolar and prescribed Vraylar as a mood stabilizer and Seroquil for anxiety, but the Vraylar gave me inner restlessness (couldn't sit still or keep an attention span for long).  I just got on Lamictal which seems to be better but it's still very early.  It's still a work in progress right now but I've made huge personal progress in the past decade.

I also take Melatonin at night before bedtime to get me ready for sleep.

Learning to breathe, to relax, has been very helpful.  Sleep is probably the single most important thing.  Without sleep, the body cannot renew itself each day.  I recommend that everyone get a Sleep Test (home or at a sleep center) to see if you need a CPAP for sleep apnea

It's good to see you again traderwithpois.

I completely agree on what you said about the importance of sleep and breathing. A healthy way of life with less stressors (less computer and mobile phone usage, more sun and contact with nature) is also important as well. In some way it clears out all the shock that POIS brings to the body.

Seems very much in agreement with my own findings.

I take a modest zinc supplement at night to help with anxiety. And indeed breathing.

For anti-allergy I'm using cetirizine. Is that what you are taking too?
Male, INTJ. POIS symptoms: red eyes, ear-pain, anxiety, speech problems, pale/ugly skin, stiff neck, double chin, tinnitus, light sensitivity. POIS even after stimulation without O.
