Type IV immune reactions (generally)
« on: April 20, 2011, 04:27:16 PM »
I would like that this topic to be a place where to find and post information about Type IV immune reactions, not exclusively related to POIS, but with implication to our understanding of POIS.

Preliminary references, and information about it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_IV_hypersensitivity

What sites, and information do you know, and what treatments work for this kind of reactions?

I have cognitive, psychological and physical symptoms.
I am apologizing for my English if it is unclear.

I think the best option is desensitization. I don't think it's a good choice to chose an immuno-supressive med. But in complement, during the desensitization, we could try to suppress the inflammation. I'm 100% conviced of the impact of diet on cytokines activity. But maybe some meds are very effective. I didn't find iboprofene or aspirine very effective but maybe my timing wasn't good.

Dr Waldinger said Pois might be a combination of Type I and IV,  so the reaction seems to be mediated by IgE and Lymphocytes-T (=T-Cells). In my case, I think I have the delayed version, because my symptoms start 3-6 hours later.

I agree that desensitization, could be the best option for long term relief.

But since the effects would be felt after a longer period, it would be great if dr. Waldinger or anyone, could find a temporary short term cure, to block the immediate symptoms.

This is why the interest in the male contraceptive methods, two that have been tried with "fairly good" results, in terms of POIS releif. And there are a couple of other methods we haven't tried.

There have been side effects with both Silodosin and the P/T combination which in our limited tests have resulted in termination of the test, and other failures related to the lack of capacity of Silodosin to actually stop semen flow for instance.

But we need  more volunteers in more precisely controlled tests to be more definitive.

Sessions 5 to 9 days, mostly Flu-like, joints, digestion problems, light cognitive.
Niacin has changed my lif though, now 1 day MAX.
Somewhere in this interaction with Niacin is the answer!

Is there any other known allergy out there type I or IV which has the same group of symptoms as POIS?
I haven't yet come across any other allergy which compares to POIS in symptoms. For me that puts POIS
outside the realm of allergy.

First type IV can have a wide range of symptoms, depending on the nature of the attacker and the depth of influence.
Also, in our case, it resembles "auotimmune reaction" more than "allergic reaction".

The cell mediation in POIS extends throughout the whole system and potentially inflames soft tissues and nervous system protective tissues.

Perhaps it;s not the only cause, but definitely one of them.

My case IS autoimmune.....  I still have to put my case in the appropriate section here...
