I have pois(selfdiagnosis) and I am with a Psychiatrist right know.
I want to be sure that I get the right help.
He at first believed I might have autism, schizophrenia, psychosis.
Now he think that my cognitive drop(I experienced this in the last years, I am 23 now) is due to depression.
Should I take the anti-depressant?
Offcourse I told him where I believe my brainfog and cogntive symptoms stemm from(ejaculation).
He doesnt really go into that.

Thank you for your help, If I have to clear something up please tell me.

I'm really sorry that we're not able to advise you about your antidepressant treatment.

Would you please see our forum rule ("Do not use POISCenter as a substitute for, or to give, medical advice") on the Welcome page:

10 years of significant POIS-reduction, treatment consisting of daily (365 days/year) testosterone patches.

TRT must be checked out carefully with your doctor due to fertility, cardiac and other risks.

40+ years of severe 4-days-POIS, married, raised a family, started/ran a business

Hi, poisserwithnld,

We cannot interfere with the decisions of your psychiatrist.

However, you can try and give him a simple link like the wikipedia POIS page ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postorgasmic_illness_syndrome ), so he can understand it a little better.
You are 100% responsible for what you do with anything I post on this forum and of any consequence it could have for you.  Forum rule: ""Do not use POISCenter as a substitute for, or to give, medical advice" Read the remaining part at http://poiscenter.com/forums/index.php?topic=1.msg10259#msg10259

Hi, poisserwithnld,

Quantum's suggestion about Wikipedia is an excellent start.

And if you wish to delve into this just a little more, please feel free to share with your psychiatrist any POIS information from our Welcome Page (the 2nd link below).

In particular, there is a New York Times article shown on the Welcome Page that is written by a psychiatrist, Richard Friedman, M.D., that might help to bring the "two worlds" (POIS & psychiatry) together for both you and your doctor:

It's very complicated!

Some illnesses have symptoms that are subsets of others but you often can't treat them like the illness it emulates (at least partially).

POIS has symptoms of depression, yet it's likely not the best that a psychiatrist treats POIS. However a patient can have POIS AND depression as diseases in their own right. This has really complicated POIS.

Some of us only have depressive symptoms while in POIS, and they completely disappear outside of POIS. Ot would seem that such a person is not normally depressive. A psychiatrist is not able to make the distinction, for all that you tell him about POIS, because POIS does not officially exist, nevermind have a known form of treatment.

We have had many members who have suffered greatly on anti-depressants, because they were not designed for POIS, but none of us, and in reality there is no-one who can officially recommend what to offer as a solution.

We are desperately working to find a solution, at least the tip of the iceberg as far as a remedy goes. But until then, we are all in the same boat.

Check out the various helpful remedies that some have found. None seem to work for everyone, but maybe one or two may help you.

WITHOUT RESEARCH THERE WILL BE NO CURE!
Sessions 5 to 9 days, mostly Flu-like, joints, digestion problems, light cognitive.
Niacin has changed my lif though, now 1 day MAX.
Somewhere in this interaction with Niacin is the answer!
