Has anybody tried near-infrared or other phototherapy for POIS? The symptom set phototherapy with near-infrared light is described as treating sounds very similar to what I experience with POIS.
I began thinking about this after listening to a recent podcast on the topic (
https://blog.bulletproof.com/light-hacking-349/ ) by Dave Asprey.
Part of my POIS symptoms is extreme sensitivity to light for several days; I can get migraines from afternoon sunlight or fluorescent bulbs, screens... whereas red lights (such as in saunas, certain restaurants) seem to have the opposite, calming effect. (The rest of my POIS is lots of inflammation in my body and increased allergies, brain fog...)
Next year I may be able to test phototherapy for myself, but I'm wondering if anybody else out there has already tried it or already owns this type of near-infrared sauna. The research I'm finding seems to indicate specific IR frequencies, such as 850nm for anti-inflammatory effects. It appears many saunas are not designed for this specific purpose and emit other IR frequencies, and it is unclear whether the IR needs to be applied to the whole body or just parts of it (Dave Asprey mentions a device that targets the head and eyes, for example).
LMK your thoughts. Thanks!
