Hi,

Finally I have seen a neurologist.
I am about to try 2 things: a new anti-depressant, Amitriptyline, he suggested, to be taken 1 hour before O only (not taken every day), and in case that doesn't help I also asked for some Methylphenidate (Sandoz 18 mg, also called Ritalin) to see how that affects POIS symptoms, mainly severe concentration to the point of dizziness, speech, brain fog and overall anxiety of having these symptoms.

Will keep you updated, but was wondering others experience with Amitriptyline or Ritalin either to prevent or treat symptoms of POIS? If so, what were you experiences, how much and how long before O did you take your pill, etc?

Ritalin and other ADHD stimulant drugs increase brain glutamate so if excess glutamate is a problem for you (I think its a problem for most POISers) then it doesn't sound like a great idea. I would take NAC with it if it was me who was trying.

Great, thank you Quantum. I did and always do a keyword search first, but related posts are often years old, some members may not always comment about it at the time of the old post (unless they had success). Plus I imagine the forum grows each year and you never know what experiences new members may have had. I also didn't find many posts where members actually used Methylphenidate as a pre-pack alone, not taking it everyday.

Thanks 'iwillbeatthis', being overseas I have an opportunity to try things without needing to socialise after so I'll be trying different things.
Perhaps you are right, but drugs that affect the brain affect the entire body profoundly. Some members take things like Wellbutrin and Milnacipran which normally take up to 4 weeks to work but other elements in the drug have provided them with immediate relief.

Quantum, would it make a big difference if I take my regular Vitamin B's, Magnesium and rest of prepack... together with this new medication (Amitriptyline)?
The concern is if the medication doesn't work, at least there is some backup relief from the normal pre-pack, but I am also concerned the prepack may get in the way of the drug doing it's thing?

Great, keep us updated on your results !

Hi Laotzu,
Objectively, to my knowledge, there are no major interactions between amitriptyline and vitamins, so they can be taken together.  You can check further with any vitamin or drug with this interaction checker:  https://www.drugs.com/drug-interactions/amitriptyline.html

From there, you can take the test for yourself, and, after for example, a few tests with amitriptyline alone vs a few tests with amitriptyline + pre-pack, compare your notes and see what works best for you.
It would be interesting that you share here the results you will get.

10 years of significant POIS-reduction, treatment consisting of daily (365 days/year) testosterone patches.

TRT must be checked out carefully with your doctor due to fertility, cardiac and other risks.

40+ years of severe 4-days-POIS, married, raised a family, started/ran a business

That's really helpful, thanks Q!
Will report back with results of the new meds soon. There was a 'moderate' interaction, it said, between the Ritalin and the Amitriptyline.

hurray

Interesting that both drugs he gave you have an NRI component (norepinephrine reuptake inhibition).

Good luck :)
