hyperhomocysteinemia and POIS
« on: June 14, 2020, 02:49:19 PM »
a. Could this be the/a missing link?

My genetic report is very interesting and I believe it gives ample clues to the cellular/DNA level underlying causes to my POIS as well non-POIS troubles.  The one gene variant that strikes me most is the MTRR - which puts me at increased risk for hyperhomocysteinemia and altered choline metabolism.

What is MTRR:
There are common polymorphisms in the MTRR gene that code for the enzyme methionine synthase reductase, which catalyzes the conversion of the inactive form of another enzyme, methionine synthase (MTR), to its active form using riboflavin (vitamin B2) as a cofactor. MTR is involved in the
remethylation of homocysteine to methionine with cobalamin (vitamin B12) participating as a cofactor. This reaction is of utmost importance as MTR plays a pivotal role in folate metabolism and methionine cycling.

- I take 8mg Iron daily - which I have observed totally prevents a headache.
- I have been taking Jarrows B-Right which has Methyl Folate 400 mcg, but that has no obvious positive or negative effect on me.
- I started taking 'Folinic Acid' 800 mcg (on alternate days with Jarrow B-Right), and bum I feel each time the Folinic Acid kicking.  Its a beautifully deep mental clarity.  I do feel joint pain though on taking it, but I have read that as a positive effect provided a person can tolerate it.

Has anyone got insights on relationship between Folinic vs MethylFolate vs Iron vs homocysteinuria.  Help me understand.  Thanks, hope everyone is doing well.
