My POIS Experiences and Treatments
« on: August 30, 2016, 03:12:32 PM »
About Me:
I am a 23 year old male, of South Asian descent. Symptoms include: cognitive impairment, fatigue, and loss of motivation. Originally, these symptoms were quite disabling, and would last from 2-4 days

Lifestyle Modification:
I do not voluntarily ejaculate. As such, all of my POIS symptoms arise from Nocturnal Emission (NE), which occur anywhere between 1 to 5 times a month. I've found a considerable link between the occurrence of NE's and my dietary habits. After considerable experimenting, I've found that I have several food intolerance which contribute to my episodes. I've eliminated several so-called "Inflammatory" foods from my diet, including grains (particularly gluten-containing wheat products), dairy, processed foods, and poor quality sources of fats. I tend to adhere to the "Paleolithic" diet, and since making this switch have not only found my NE's to occur less frequently, but have improved my general well-being.

Additionally, I try to keep my dinnertime as early as possible, and keep my meals light. I would estimate that at least 90% of my NE's have been preceded by eating too close to bedtime, or more food than is necessary in the evening.

Treatments:
When I experience NE, I've found the most effective treatment to by diphenhydramine (Benadryl) 50mg, as well as Prednisone 10mg.
Treatments that I've tried that my condition was not responsive to include: Niacin, Fenugreek, or Garlic.

Conclusion:
I've quite convince that my condition is an immunomodulatory dysfunction, as my symptoms have responded well to antihistimes and immunosuppressants. I also have several food intolerances as well. It's an established phenomena that developed society is being afflicted with autoimmune disorders at unprecedented rates that in the past, or when compared to developing nations. 10 years of significant POIS-reduction, treatment consisting of daily (365 days/year) testosterone patches.

TRT must be checked out carefully with your doctor due to fertility, cardiac and other risks.

40+ years of severe 4-days-POIS, married, raised a family, started/ran a business

Welcome to the forum, mithrvndir, and thanks for your sharing about your POIS history and your success so far with a relief method.  You have made great life changes, like an healthier diet, and many other POIS sufferers have reported amelioration in their condition with these.

Your timing of meal vs NE is very interesting.  It could be a useful model to emulate for another POISer in search of limitating  NE to a minimum, for obvious reasons.

Thanks!

This is interesting. I have also noticed that nocturnal emissions are likely to occur when I consume high calorie meals right before (or 3-4 hours prior) bedtime. I am a gym-goer and my routine is so packed up that I cannot go to the gym earlier in the day. I must schedule it in the evening (8 pm) and I must sleep within 1 am. I noticed that the high calorie shake that I take post workout has a great impact on the occurrence of NE's. When I keep my bedtime meals light or just skip them, I wake up refreshed the next day (that means no NE occurs that night). After reading your post, I can confirm that this is it. As you mentioned, gluten and dairy do affect this condition.

My meal-induced NE's are quite different from regular wet dreams. In case of regular wet dream, a full blown ejaculation occurs followed by a dream and I usually wake up immediately when it occurs. And in case of meal-induced NE, I ejaculate some "pre-cum"-like substance (or just pre-cum) minus the dream. I don't consider it as a full ejaculation but its physiological effects are as intense as what I call "full blown ejaculation".

This correlation has been observed by a few members in this forum. Maybe, this is how some people's body works. In Indian culture, nocturnal emission (swapnadosh / स्वप्नदोष) is believed to be caused by the "internal heat of the stomach". This may be purely hypothetical but not entirely false. Many yoga gurus who advocate the practice of semen retention advice eating light meals before bed to avoid NE.

Link : https://www.nofap.com/forum/index.php?threads/the-retention-of-semen-and-sprituality.77290/

(......It is important not to excessively raise the internal heat of the body. Ayurveda describes internal heat as a condition of excess pitta (bile) that is associated with the mode of passion, experienced as heat in the body generated by a passionate mood or by eating hot rajasika food such as that with much chili powder. Ayurveda also cautions putting downward pressure on the genitals by packing the stomach with food.

Diet and eating habits, therefore, are very important. Transcendentalists should eat simply (See section on ?Eating? under ?Health?) and moderately. By overeating, more energy is taken into the body than it can use, which tends to make it come out in the form of seminal discharge. And an overly filled belly exerts pressure on the genitals, causing a tendency towards seminal discharge.

Avoid sleeping with a full belly?a yogi practices not eating at night. The last meal should be taken at least 2-3 hours before sleeping. The food should be light and easily digestible. Even hot milk should not be taken immediately before retiring, but about half an hour before. Rich, heavy, fried, spicy, and sweet foods heat the body, so be cautious with them, especially at night. Sour foods (such as sour or acidic fruit and yogurt) and bitter foods should be avoided at night, as should sweets, cheese, and thick milk preparations. Milk that has gone even slightly sour should not be taken at night....)

Now, I will consider scheduling my meals accordingly and see what it does to my body. Thanks for posting.

Raj,

It's interesting that you've found parallels between diet and your episodes as well. It's been a year since my initial post. In the intervening time, my symptoms have been markedly ameliorated by dietary modification. I continue to adhere to a Paleo diet as best as I can. Dietary modification has  been more effective than any pharmacological regimen that I've tried.

A vast majority of my NE cases have beeen caused by dietary indiscretion.
