My interesting experience with Voltaren Retard 100mg
« on: October 13, 2019, 03:01:20 AM »
I strongly advice you to consult a psychiatrist before trying any of the medical treatments listed below.

First off, I want to clear out something. I believe that my POIS condition is purely organic. Whatever mental symptoms said to be related to it (Brain fog, Memory loss, Talking difficulties, etc.) are merely symptoms that came along with POIS in a form of depression. So the treatment only helped me with the organic symptoms.

I visited an open minded psychiatrist in 26 Aug of last year, and he was convinced that my condition is due to an immune error. he prescribed me Voltaren Retard 100mg. Which an anti-inflammatory. Like many POIS treatments. It's not a perfect one. The treatment only lasted for a couple of days and everything went back to normal as usual. But I figured I'll share my thoughts and interesting points about this experience. I was advised to take two pills a day.

1 hour after the first O, I took one pill. and Voila! Was jumping like the average athlete the way I used to be. I couldn't believe it myself, thinking it was a placebo. The treatment lasted for about 4-6 hours. then symptoms came back. Took another pill and lasted for another 4-6 hrs. I enjoyed a full day free of POIS. Next day, at morning. I couldn't even stand up from bed. My usual Joints pain kicked in again even stronger. I took one pill and was free from POIS for another 4-6 hrs. And so on and so fourth, I was enjoying the treatment until 5 days have passed. The treatment became gradually less effective. As if the placebo is slowly wearing off (to this day I'm still not sure if it was a placebo or not, one thing I'm sure of is that I was working out and running like your average athlete with 0% POIS. So much for a placebo. But I'd rather to keep an eye out for all the possibilities.) So, with the treatment effect gradually wearing off, In addition to the expensive cost of the pills. I decided to give up and look for another treatment. Ever since I've been in a cycle of POIS with no improvement, only trying to cope with POIS and accept my fate for now.

However, here is an interesting "side effect" that came along with Voltaren Retard. This side effect is only sensible when in the (4-6hrs) Free of POIS period. Ejaculation became nearly impossible. No matter how hard I try, something in my body always tries to prevent it. To be precise it's a muscle in the Perineum area that keeps twitching desperately trying to prevent an ejaculation no matter how hard I try. Only a few times I managed to ejaculate in that state and it was only drops of semen if anything. Is this the antibiotic trying to prevent the immune system from doing something stupid? does POIS lie in that area? who knows. I was excited to share this with my psychiatrist but I couldn't have the chance to meet him again due to some governmental fililing issues. So I thought why not share it with the members here and see your thoughts about it. While waiting for a chance to meet another psychiatrist "It's hard to meet an open minded one from where I live." I stopped taking the pills after a couple of days. Although many people warned me about suddenly stop taking an antibiotic, I couldn't care less personally, with POIS I've got nothing to lose. I won't lie if I said my POIS symptoms have worsened ever since. But this has been the nature of my POIS over the years. It has gotten worse and worse already before I even took the pills. So that didn't change anything pretty much for me.

EDIT: adding a few points.

POST BY MESHAL MOVED FROM ADMIN CORNER

for the past 2 days I tried VOLTAREN RETARD 100mg, Just had three O's in a row, had a light fatugie for a couple of minutes and now I'm jumping like a little baby with no symptoms at all, It's been 6 hours since my last O and I haven't slept yet. I have a feeling POIS will strike back after I sleep, but something fishy is happening, POIS always starts minutes after O but this time I don't know what happend. could be a placebo but we'll see in a couple of days

Interesting Meshal,
Just a note, voltaren is not an antibiotic; it's a Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory drug. Which means it stops inflammation, rather than attacking infection.

Yes! "inflammatory" I was looking for this word. Do you think this case has been mentioned in the forum before?

Yes it's been mentioned countless times with very little success.
I showed your post to my doctor and he said that your "open minded" doctor bamboozled you lol.

And here I thought I was onto something. Gotta give him credit though for providing me a decent placebo with only one visit.

I have had - and am still having - success with Voltaren (50 mg, non-retard) as I explained in this post: https://poiscenter.com/forums/index.php?topic=3080.msg30734#msg30734

I now take it some hours after ejaculation, when the symptoms set in, since taking it before did not seem to matter. I then take it again after a couple of hours and repeat up to a total of 3 to 4 times. I still have symptoms, but I get through the days after ejaculation much better.

I would not dismiss Voltaren/diclofenac so easily. There are actually not so many reports about it on the forum (I had a look at the posts before writing about it myself), which is a bit surprising, given that it has been mentioned in

Ashby J, and Goldmeier D. Postorgasm illness syndrome: A spectrum of illnesses. J Sex Med 2010;7:1976-1981. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20214722

It is important to note that Voltaren/diclofenac can cause damage to the kidneys and can have other side effects. One should always consult a physician first before trying it.
Used to have brain fog, flue-like symptoms, un-refreshing sleep, extreme exhaustion, muscle and joint pain, digestive problems, social anxiety, urge to urinate frequently.
Used niacin in the past. Now using nanna1's maintenance stack. Exhaustion and brain fog now main problem. 3-day POIS cycle

Good job, thanks for your post.
Not the first time NSAI helps with Pois.
But first time I read NSAI delays ejaculation.

You can's use voltaren for a long time or it will destroy your liver.
Anyway it may prove inflammatory cause in your Pois .

When I started to take taurine (once a day), I noticed a moderate effect on my premature ejaculation.
Taurine has an anti-inflammatory effect .

Meshal, your comment about how delayed ejaculation correlated with haveing less symptoms is very interesting. This could be some form of correlation between the ejaculation mechanism and POIS. Particularly adrenaline.

I wonder whether his serotonin and/or BDNF are low. These play a role in premature ejaculation. Perhaps COX-2 could affect pathways where these molecules are involved. His memory loss symptom is typical for patients of brain diseases with low brain BDNF, like seen in Alzheimer.

The described reaction wohld make zero sense with an antibiotic - firstly, it probably would not take immediate effect, but in any case, it would not have a worse rebound, but increasingly be more effective. Certainly you couldn't bounce back and forth, either it works or it doesn't, or the rebound is much later and more final.
But Voltaren isn't an antibiotic anyway, but an anti-inflammatory. Should have googled it. Maybe it has some minor antibiotic actions, I don't know, but it's certainly not a primary antibiotic, which are strictly regulated.

Iboprufen doesn't work on COX, the receptor affinity is so weak studies which claim it inhibits COX are just plain  xxxxxxxx profanity-edit. Alzheimer got to do with amyloid proteins and destruction of dopamine receptors not with BDNF, thats just a consequence. Psuedo-alzheimer or pseudo-dementia is more likely.

I would dare to claim that the process or damage of POIS is similar to dementia but is  reversible hence psuedo dementia

Update:

Voltaren still works. I have been limiting my usage to only take it after O for 3-4 of daily doses just to be safe. So roughly I'd say I take it 3-4 times a month. I no longer suffer the side effect I mentioned earlier. Now I can have a perfectly normal O even after taking voltaren.

So over all I'd say voltaren helps me physically a LOT in the first days of pois episode which is why I'm still taking it. It almost eleminates my joints pain which is all I need to get by the day and do workouts. I'm still suffering the cognitive symptoms of pois so voltaren can do nothing about that.
