What works for me
« on: May 28, 2013, 08:24:43 PM »
As we all know, there are just as many ways to deal with POIS as there are people that suffer from it. Most people agree that Niacin and some of of b complex is a part of the answer, others find that different things work for them. This post is not meant to provide an answer or a cure, neither is it meant to guide people to start doing what I'm doing. It's simply meant as inspiration and I'm hoping that what works for me may also help others on the way, in their search for liberation from this illness.

Over a year ago I started taking Hidroxil, which contains B1, B6 and B12. It helped me a lot but I kept having concerns about going over the recommended dosages and building up too much vitamin b in my body. After a year of taking hidroxil daily, I was confirmed in this, my B6 levels were slightly high. I started breaking down the components of Hidroxil and bought the individual vitamins to better be able to control the amount of B1, B6 and B12 I took. I cut down on the B6 and noted no difference in the effect after an O.

I still had POIS after an O though, but only about 20-25% of a full POIS without any vitamins. I stopped using the vitamins for a week or so and immediately fell back in the POIS hole without this "protection". It felt like being dragged into a dark hole, being tied down and being unable to speak clearly for a day or two, and it brought back memories of the time before I found this forum.

I then started to add different vitamins to my daily dosage, all within safe limits of course. I should also mention that I don't take any other medication just for the sake of it. What made a big difference for me was adding Krill oil and Zinc to the mix. I also bought C vitamins and A vitamins, just to try and see if that had an effect. But the Krill oil and Zinc combined with the b vitamins made the big difference.

My situation now is that I (of course) still have some amount of POIS but I would say that it's down to 10% or so. I'm training to be a commercial pilot and I can now fly a plane for many hours without being hugely affected by POIS the day after an O.

To sum it up this is what I take:

1 x GNC b1 300mg
1 x Zinc 50mg (any brand)
1 x Sundown b12 500mcg
1 x Sundown b6 100mg
1 x Nature's Bounty 1000mg Krill oil
1 x Vitamin C 1000mg (any brand)
1 x Vitamin A & D3 (5000 UI A, 400 UI D)

Yes, it's a lot of tablets to take every morning, but for me it's worth it. I feel that I can function again and live almost free of POIS until someone comes up with a definite cure.

Again, this is inspiration, not a claim for a cure so take it as that.

Good luck in your search.

Have you thought of eating oranges and carrots instead of the vitamin C and vitamin A? I suspect the vitamins in food would be more bio-available. Just curious.
Taking ginger tea, no wheat, fenugreek+green tea/garlic, saw palmetto, niacin, boswellia, huperzine, B complex and nutmeg. See my treatment summary post for more info: http://poiscenter.com/forums/index.php?topic=81.msg3513#msg3513

fsol,

Thanks for you post.

First, this is good that it seems to be a sustained "success".

A couple of questions, and I ask because I have felt at times that this program probably works better for those who don't have
success with niacin.

1) Had you tried niacin before you started this program? If so, what was your success rate. I imagine if niacin had been good, you wouldn't have looked to this program.
2) I see you do not have ANY niacin in your program. Some on this program had taken niacin as well before orgasm, but I'm not sure of wether it helped or hindered.

Since niacin worked well for me, just about as well as this program works for you, I never wanted to test other things without using it.
so when I tried a B-Complex regime, it was ALSO with niacin before orgasm.

WITHOUT RESEARCH THERE WILL BE NO CURE!
Sessions 5 to 9 days, mostly Flu-like, joints, digestion problems, light cognitive.
Niacin has changed my lif though, now 1 day MAX.
Somewhere in this interaction with Niacin is the answer!

I have two questions. How long did it take before you started noticing any effects? And were you affected by pois even when out of pois if you know what i mean? Like fattigue, brain fog etc even when out of pois.

EDIT: Fuck I felt so egoistic, awesome that you've found something that worked for you. :D

It's wonderful that the B vitamins work for you. You needed a break! They didn't work for me though, in fact they made me worse, but for now, the important thing is
that we can find something that helps each one.

I DO take niacin, and it has made me practically POIS free. So we are each a little different.

As fsol says, all we can do is say what worked for each one of us. Unfortunately, this is not a promise that it will work for anyone else.

Excellent, Daveman, and thank you for repeating what I have been saying since the forums began in 2007:

Let's please refrain from asking each other for serious medical advice: none of us are doctors!

If someone on the forum, without being your doctor or medical counselor who KNOWS your medical history - and knows YOU as a patient, not from the Internet but face-to-face -- told you to take injections, we would probably ask that individual to leave the forum. It is extremely dangerous and irresponsible.

sameer7777, we all want you to improve or cure your POIS.

But safely!

Hi guys,

So sorry for the late reply, as I have not gotten any email notifications about this thread. I will try and answer the questions posted:

Daveman:
1) I have tried Niacin before this program and it worked for me. But I found it inconvenient to have the flush while being with a partner (and by myself too) and was therefore looking for a more permanent solution, without having to "time" my intake of suppliments.

2) I have tried using Niacin as well, but found that due to the already high amount of B vitatmins in my body, I needed LOTS of niacin to get the flush. I hate the taste of Niacin so with a reduction of my POIS of about 90% I'm quite happy skipping the niacin.

Nenexx:
It was just a few weeks before the effects started. However, it's only a week before POIS is back if I stop using it. I can skip a day of taking the vitamins and still be fine at the moment.

I wasn't really affected much by these things, out of POIS. If I abstain for 2 weeks, it's still like I get my old life back.

the b6 has caused me a kind of peripheral neuropathy in his left foot, itched very strong and I was not sleeping and I stopped taking it in addition to b3 and now I can not even take the b3. Now I am 2 months with niacin but still feel a little itchy foot and if I ingest back again very strong this hassle. I soon as I test electromyography
be careful, find out about b6 toxicity.
b3 caused me cardiac arrhythmias.

Now im back with my syntoms @ 100 % :'(

Thanks for your input "vetro".

It's a shame that we have to wait for one of us to actually suffer for us to listen to the warnings.

B6 toxicity can be permanent... that's why we were so stressful of the precautions. With some luck "vetro" you will recuperate. I certainly hope so.

Meantime, let's hope that vetrofragile's experience in not in vein.

High dose B-Complex is dangerous.
Niacin has a different problem, although for vetro it triggers the effects of the B6 damage for him, niacin in higher regular doses can cause damage to the liver.

Check with your doctor as a minimum. Even though we are only talking about vitamins. B6 toxicity is dangerous.

We say in the moment "we don't care, anything to find a cure", but when the damage is done, it's another story.

Good luck Vetro... thanks for sharing. Let's hope you caught it in time. For now it seems that as long as you stop taking the vitamins, the symptoms receed?
This may give hope that with more time it will heal itself.

Daveman Hello , my symptoms of pois are back ... all 100% and more now I have this slight tingling in his right foot , the strong internal itching in the flesh of the foot is the past .. thankfully, but I have not recovered to 100% .. I'm more or less than 80% and thank god because it was terrible and horrible .. unfortunately to combat this evil called pois  I risked everything unknowingly.

I do not know what happened to me because now if I take 100 mg b3 back the itching probably because it also changes the levels of b6 .
I abused vitamins, but I know that in America there is a red alert for the excess vitamin b6 in vitamin complexes , be very .. very carefully guys, Neuropathy is worse than pois, trust me..  I read testimonies of horrific abuse b6 .

That my experience can be of help and advice. I think I've given a lot to this cause.

A big hug from Italy and encouragement to all .

CIAO !

An update about the vitamins I've been taking: I haven't experienced anything like Vetro, and I've asked several doctors if the vitamins I take are harmful. All of them say no and I have no symptoms of any kind of toxicity. But remember that we are all different and this may not work for you so please keep being careful with that you take.

Currently I take:

1 x b1 300mg
1 x Zinc 50mg (any brand)
1 x b12 500mcg
1 x b6 100mg
1 x Ginkgo 2000mg
1 x Magnesium 500mg

I've taken this for a year and my POIS is down to 1 day when I take this daily. If I have an O at night and a good nights' sleep, the next day is managable, and I can even go for very long walks and not get too exhausted. I found that a key element has been (for me anyway) to take one extra dose immediately after the O. I do not use Niacin anymore and haven't for over a year.

For me this is acceptable. The vitamins are not expensive and taking them once a day is not a big deal. I do keep fit and exercise three times a week. Yes, I still have POIS but this is 10-20% of the hell I was going through before I started taking vitamins.

Like I said in the very first post - this is meant as inspiration. This works very well for me but may not for you. Get regular checkups, and be careful with the B6 especially. We all want a cure but not for any price. Good luck.

But the Krill oil and Zinc combined with the b vitamins made the big difference.
I have also found good luck with krill and zinc.  Sushi also works well for me, I'm thinking because of all the fish oil.

Something to think about for those of you who don't react well to standard b12.  There is an alternative, more bio-available form called methylcobalamin b12 which can be found very easily on Amazon and other places.  The reason this might make a difference is that many people have a genetic mutation that may affect one's ability to metabolize b vitamins like b12 and folate called MTHFR.  That's a whole other fascinating and complicated arena.  Also, instead of b6, you may want to explore p5p which is the bio available version of b6.

Let's be careful when stating that Niacin is bad for the liver.  That is generally correct with the non-flushing Niacin. However, from my understanding based on the research I've done online, is that normal flushing niacin is much less taxing on the liver even though it may be a bit annoying for some.
