Any Wind or Brass Players?
« on: May 12, 2014, 11:24:25 PM »
If the format appears a little lazy here, I apologize since I'm on mobile.

I play the trombone at my high school and plan to study performance next year at university. My problem is, while feeling well (not on pois) I can play very well (2nd ranked soloist in my state), but on pois it's completely different. The biggest problem is breathing. I can't get a full, relaxed breath and can't sustain my breath with any support. My question is, if there are any musicians who have succeeded with this horrible ailment, what remedies, stretches, exercises do you recommend to improve my breathing or condition as a whole.

I'm not totally sure I've posted this in the right topic, but you seem like a friendly enough community, so I hope you'll forgive me  :)
Symptoms last 6-7 days. Onset of muscle weakness after 30 seconds. Symptoms include: brain fog, fatigue, depression, pale skin/dark circles under eyes,  digestive problems, difficulty taking a full breath, irritability. NONE of these are present out of POIS.

I have the same thing. See my footer for my remedy. I don't use Niacin anymore though.

I just did a quick read up on that norethisterone. It looks a lot like a product targeted toward women with heavy periods, could this be more evidence of the illness being hormone related? I'm hesitant to try too many medications since I'm only 17  so in what way does it reduce your symptoms?

Norethisterone bombed (for me ).

I don't know why.
10 years of significant POIS-reduction, treatment consisting of daily (365 days/year) testosterone patches.

TRT must be checked out carefully with your doctor due to fertility, cardiac and other risks.

40+ years of severe 4-days-POIS, married, raised a family, started/ran a business

Hi Scary Sheep,

I would recommend reading Dr Dexters medical paper on POIS (post coital headache - but not just a headache). Forum Admin can provide the medical paper if you haven't got it. You take Norethisterone (synthetic progesterone) just when shoot and for few days after. If you don't shoot you don't need to take the medication.

Hi Scary Sheep,

Just commenting on your post about playing musical instruments.

I have played acoustic guitar as a hobby for many years. What I am certain of is the energy and molecular connection between the musician and their instrument.

When I have been in full POIS, my guitar playing sounds really poor quality, and I can't master the instrument in any way. When I am at my best "out of pois" phase, I connect very well with the guitar and the sound is crisper and I play so much better, and of course my confidence improves.

I know that this is true of all our activities and endeavors, dependent on what side of pois we are at, but I think musical instruments bring this out in a very specific way.
