Something interesting about niacin
« on: May 08, 2013, 12:53:21 AM »
Hi guys,

I became a regular user of niacin. It works for POIS. I don't know why. I also take Focalin (dextro form of ritalin) for ADHD.

Focalin usually puts me to sleep or it makes me super tired. I experience a lot of ups and downs when I take it itself only. My reaction to Focalin varies a ton, sometimes I feel anxious and sometimes, I feel calm, but unable to concentrate. Anyway niacin changed that.  I currently take Doctor's best REAL niacin timed release 500mg. I have minimal flushing. It works well with focalin. My focus is back. I am studying well with it. Again, I have no idea why.

I'd really like to know why. I think the answer would be key to understanding the POIS process, even though niacin doesn't work for everyone.

My feeling (as a complete layperson) is that it interacts with the whole catacholamine system to somehow defuse the antagonist.
My suspicion is that it bolsters our system so that a histamine surge doesn't leave us depleted.

The catacholamine imbalance also explains anxiety and depression symptomology.

Whatever the effect that niacin has, and even given that it doesn't help everyone, if the researchers
don't take into consideration "the niacin effect", at least why it works for many, they aren't on the right track.
WITHOUT RESEARCH THERE WILL BE NO CURE!
Sessions 5 to 9 days, mostly Flu-like, joints, digestion problems, light cognitive.
Niacin has changed my lif though, now 1 day MAX.
Somewhere in this interaction with Niacin is the answer!

Hi all,

I've almost finished my niacin jar. I used to buy the one from Solgar , 100 tablets of 100mg.
It was convenient to me in that format because it do produces the flush and under certain conditions I am able to get it with only 100mg.
But today the guy from the store told me that Solgar stopped selling that format, now they only produce the one with tablets of 550mg of niacinamide!!
So my questions are: Is someone using the 550mg niacinamide tablets of the same brand? Do they produce the flush? Would it be effective if I split one tablet in 4 parts?
If not, can you please suggest any other brand that sells niacin tablets in a smaller format?
thanks

Nature's Way makes 100mg niacin capsules. I might need to take 150 or 250, or even 275, so it's a good way to divide it up.

I've tried niacinamide, without much luck, but my test haven't been very thorough. You need 1500 to 2000 mg, and I think niacinamide works better when taken more regularly.

There's no flush, so it's difficult to know when you've taken enough, but I understand that it's not necessary to fast beforehand.

It's the same but different!

Niacinamide is what the body produces when it has incorporated niacin (flush has passed).
