Antihistamine Member Trials Outline

--Good Results--

Willem: "Currently on Claritin after reading the Jan publications on POIS.  It's working the best of any treatment I've tried.  Still feeling fatigue, but seeing about 80% improvement in muscles and nerves."
http://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/index.php?topic=6576.msg353016#msg353016
Here is a more recent review of it by him: "Took 24 Hour 10mg Loratadine type. 30% reduction in symptoms, especially helped muscles recover faster. Worked best to take two tablets (20mg) several hours before O and that's it. If I take every day I get side effects like dry nasal passages and skin."

Vincent M: Both loratadin(Claritin) and diphenhydramine(Benadryl) improve all of my pois symptoms if taken about an hour before orgasm. At first claritin seemed to help a lot for my joint pain, but now it doesn't help as much anymore and since I've read some anecdotal reports of it causing joint pain I have tried to minimize my use of both claritin and benadryl.

happy2: "I read Claritin had helped some people on this site, so I started taking it everyday.  One month later, I woke up with a nocturnal emission in the middle of the night and immediately got out of bed, and took two Benadryls, another 10mg of Claritin, three Niacins (flush-free).  I went back to bed, and in the morning woke up to NO POIS." "the last nine months I have been taking Claritin everyday, and two benadryls after every orgasm, immediately after orgasm.  The POIS symptoms have actually gone from 4 days of POIS then one day of crash to only 3 days of POIS total now.  That's 3 - 24 hour periods, and eight hours, and absolutely no crash.  Last year, untreated, the POIS would last for 7-8 days total with symptoms and crash."

gement: Had mild joint pain, itchy skin, stiffness, itchy eyes, fatigue, irritable bowel, soft stool, throat irritation, stuffy nose, clogged ears."I have experimented, by treating the POIS with antihistamine. There is one that helps relieve the intensity of the symtoms by at least 85%, it is called Loratadine. It is an over the counter antihistamine allergy medication(CVS store brand, less expensive) that will last for 24 hours. Note: Should be Loratadine 10mg. I will take 1 hour before or short time after orgasm. Since my symptoms last about 3 days, I will take a 2nd dose after 21 hours, then a 3rd dose after another 21 hours. I will feel 85% symptom free during those 3 days and until next orgasm."

Chaos: "i take loratadine minutes after orgasm and it steal works with 50% power. antihistamines work greatly in my case(loratadine and diphenhydramine for sleep)."
http://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/index.php?topic=6576.msg402658#msg402658

ThereIsAcure: "I have also noticed that if I take any strong antihistamine before an O , I will wake up the next day completely refreshed (unlike if I don't take the antihistamine) also the antihistamine overcomes my PE problem which I suffered fr long time." He took Zyrtec(Xyzal)

GoingCrazy: "I took it about a day after my O and noticed my symptoms clearing dramatically.  I haven't experienced taking it directly after "O".  Now I just took a claritin 12-hour before 2 O's and its been about half an hour and I still notice no symptoms and feel totally calm and relaxed which I haven't felt for years.  This is surprisingly working well for me.  I remember trying it out before, but I don't think it worked like this, maybe I was too skeptical about the autoimmune theory and just blew it off.  My sleep is also improving dramatically.  Thanks for the info. "

RemovePois: "a. Take Claritin (effective for 24 hours) within 3-5 minutes of having your O and sleep for at least 3-4 hours afterwards. (If you know in advance that you will be having sex, then you can also take Claritin 15-30 minutes prior to it.) Note: It's very important to take claritin within the timeframe mentioned above and to sleep for some time.
b. Next day, take Claritin at the exact same time. (If you miss this second day, you will be miserable.) Also, note that in some cases if you feel the symptoms of POIS, you might have to take Claritin 2-3 hours early before the 24 hours complete.
c. Third day, take Claritin at the exact same time. Also, note that in some cases if you feel the symptoms of POIS, you might have to take Claritin 2-3 hours early before the 24 hours complete.
Therefore, by taking Claritin for continuous 3 days as per the timeframe mentioned above, you can significantly reduce your POIS symptoms. Try to Sleep early and for longer durations for these 3 days. I have been resolving my POIS symptoms for many years using this method. After seeing this forum today, I thought that I must share my solution with all of you. Give it a try and let me know your feedback. I hope this method will be helpful for most of you."

underwater: "Observations Re: Claritin and POIS
It seemed to significantly interfere with the onset of POIS, especially with symptoms connected to my skin. These would be tingles, needles, sweat, hot/cold sensations etc. Also, I never got a panic/anxiety type of jolt that I usually get. Without those initial sensations, I guess POIS never got started. However a sensation that always shows up in POIS- back and perineum discomfort- did show up. But it was 80% shorter in duration than usual. This is the most important factor for me, as this is an awful feeling. No cognitive issues or fatigue. However, I probably have a mild depression as side effects from the Claritin, as I noticed this the previous two times I took it earlier in the week. I believe this is just one little experiment, but maybe it can help direct my thinking toward a more permanent solution to my POIS and GAD. The symptoms of both, for me, overlap. Again, I thank Demo and this forum for helping me take a little step in this long journey toward a cure for both POIS and GAD."

"Had a significant NE last night since I hadn't had an "O" in 3 months---
Immediately took an antihistamine (Claritin)---
I observed that my initial usual  POIS symptoms of sweating, tingles, hot/cold sensations did not take place. All H1 receptor sites on skin were taken out of the POIS symptomatology for ME. I also noticed no stuffed sinus or dry mouth. All this makes sense for combating allergies, but it clearly works for my initial POIS symptoms too."

He later says he uses "Claritin/Benadryl (as a blunter of POIS, but no cure)" I suspect that claritin would've reduced much more of his POIS if he had taken it prior to orgasm, rather than afterwards.

Guitarninja2: "I definitely have recovered and learned to deal with this, through the use of Claritin D, which has helped significantly, and abstinence(In most cases hah). Three huge things I've found, which I really feel I should share seem to be these.
1. Claritin D helps Sinus problems, which I've ruled to definitely be the source of most of my cognitive issues. I have normal allergies, aside from that of POIS, and I have literally the exact same symptoms as those in POIS. I have done countless tests to examine this. I can guarantee that you all might feel much much better taking this, as I can hardly survive now, when I don't take it. I can't believe how awful I used to feel..."

Joe Burger: "My symptoms are pretty typical - fatigue, cognitive and memory problems, irritability, sore throat, wheezy cough etc., starting around 4 hours after ejaculating, and clearing up after 2-5 days. Last week I saw Dr. Goldmeier in London. He prescribed an antihistamine called levocetirizine dihydrochloride (brand name Xyzal, comes in 5mg. tabs) to be taken at double dosage ie. 10mg., 4-6 hours before having sex, then repeating the dose 24 hours later and again for the following 3 days. My symptoms were relieved by something like 80%... As a word of caution, I've only tried this once"

rock27: "I have quite some relief from antihistamines. This also prevents total crashes that would normally occur days later. I still feel fatigue then but no crash."
http://poiscenter.com/forums/index.php?topic=31.msg2706#msg2706

Nightingale: "I have found some benefit from taking antihistamines before O, so I take some before each time"
http://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/index.php?topic=6576.msg408471#msg408471

pois1: "I don't get the sick feeling after taking Claritin.  I still have some brain fog and sluggishness, but it's reduced compared to when I don't take anything."
http://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/index.php?topic=6576.msg373052#msg373052
"I have found quick release Clariton [Claritin] right after an episode to help with symptoms.  I wonder if taking it an hour before helps."

bossLady1998: "Each orgasm has been followed almost immediately by episodes of profuse sweating and devastating chills, plus absolute fatigue, for several days. The antihistamine [benadryl] and ibuprofen mix has eliminated these episodes. Like I said, it has been working this week. I hope to God it continues to help..."

Bulbo: "I tried antihistamine (desloratidine 5mg) and the muscle weakness and brain fog were gone.I was almost normal except for feeling sleepy. I was able to remember things but I felt very sleepy (which is a side effect of anti histamines)."[worked for 6hrs so far]
http://poiscenter.com/forums/index.php?topic=31.msg9568#msg9568

fsol: "Next evening took 2 x 10mg Claritin 5 mins after O. The day after, 40% less POIS. Maybe it was the Claritin of the previous night that was still working."

Finally, my husband has found relief from the debilitating symptoms he has been plagued with for months and months and months... Benadryl and Ibuprofen has been the answer. So far anyway. Time will tell if it continues to help.

Each orgasm has been followed almost immediately by episodes of profuse sweating and devastating chills, plus absolute fatigue, for several days. The antihistamine and ibuprofen mix has eliminated these episodes. Like I said, it has been working this week. I hope to God it continues to help, this thing is affecting every aspect of his life, and doctors either can't figure anything out or they just don't care enough to keep looking for an answer. I have been doing my own research because we are getting nowhere with doctors. That is how I found this forum. I have never belonged to a forum, I hope I am doing it right.  ???

Welcome BossLady and congratulation.

I will try loratadine. Some sufferers like JoeBurger seems to have wonderful improvements with antiHista.
There is a possible effect on "allergic" and "inflammation" side. That's why some sufferers take ibuprofen too.

But there is another aspect I found on wiki :

Quote
Loratadine :  In structure, it is closely related to tricyclic antidepressants, such as imipramine,

My test with Loratadine 10mg :

I didn't chose the best day to test loratadine because I was tired since 3 days. Anyway I didn't have a good experience with this med.

I took 1 cap of Loratadine 10mg 30 min after breakfast. I wait 1 hour and then I had an ejaculation.
First point, my "cold symptom" was quite intense maybe linked to my fatigue but med didn't help on this point.
After meal I didn't have hot flashes even if took carbohydrates (this is the only good point).
But after meal I feel an intense fatigue and bad feelings. I slept more one hour ! That's clearly unusual for me. I wouldn't say that the med help my Pois.
Maybe I will test another time but clearly, don't drive your car after taking loratadine.
