Good News !!!!!
« on: January 15, 2013, 08:08:32 AM »
Hi guys! First i'd like to apologize for not connecting more often lately. The reason is that i don't wanted to think about Pois so much. But now i have some good news: I'm 90% cured!!! My biggest symptom was the headache i suffered in all my scalp after having an O. That headache lasted for hours and days and also caused me psychological symptoms. So, how i got cured? You wouldn't guess it: i had a total tonsillectomy. I always had what they call "cryptic tonsils" or "tonsils stones". You can check that on Google. It's kind of disgusting. I told my doctor about it and he says "it's not possible for a tonsillectomy to improve headache symptoms". Look, i don't care what he thinks about it LOL (i still think he is a great doctor). What i know is that now after the O. i don't have that debilitating headache anymore!!! I still have some stomach issues, but my main problem was the headache, and that is gone!

So, here are the hypothesis:

1) Tonsillectomy is good for Pois sufferers who have cryptic tonsils/tonsil stones. ---> this one is very likely
2) Tonsillectomy is good for Pois sufferers even if they have no problems with tonsils. (tonsils are lymphoid tissue)  ---> this one is not so likely
3) The antibiotics they gave me after the tonsillectomy were the reason for the headaches cure. ---> i don't know.
4) I had an underlying Sleep Apnea and I didn't know, and the tonsillectomy improved that ---> i don't know if i had a sleep apnea, but it's a possibility.

So, i hope you tell me your thoughts about it!  :)

Yes I have got those tonsil stones too. POIS triggers the tonsil stones because the troath gets dry. I wanted the remove the tonsils a few years ago but my GP said that if you are older then 25 it's a risky and painfull operation. But I will ask again. Because the tonsil stones causes a lot of bad symptoms. My ears are clogged, my nose, my throat.

If you believe in the auto immune theory: the tonsils have a function in the immune system. So if your tonsils are removed your immune system is less strong. Which is a good thing as regards to POIS.
POIS since 2000. Very bad since 2008. I knew that I have POIS since June 2010. Desensitization since March 2011. I stopped with desens in July 2016. I have 50% less POIS. And only 1 day of POIS. Purified CBD works for me, but I am allergic for CBD.

Vandemolen, i think you are lucky to have tonsil stones in this case, LOL. I mean, if it has worked on me, it is quite likely that it will work on you. I'm older than 25 and i have had no problems with the surgery. About the immune theory...yes, it makes sense that inflammed tonsils are bad for the immune system.

BTW, you should choose a really good doctor and hospital to undergo the tonsillectomy. They have to get rid of the whole tonsils. Not only part of them. Tell them clear that they can't leave any remmant of them.

It's a painfull surgery when you are older then 25. I read that you have to stay one night in the hospital because of the bleedings. And then you have to stay a week at home.

But POIS causes tonsil stones, in my case. I thought I had clogged ears and nose because of POIS. But it's because of the tonsil stones, which in my case are caused by POIS.

And I get migraine because of POIS. And migraine causes a headache and concentration problems.

Vandemolen, i can't lie to you...yes, it's painful. Well, more than painful it's annoying, in the sense that during a week it is painful to swallow things for example. But, in my case it paid off...what is a week of suffering compared to having Pois? Yes, the first night you have to stay at the hospital because there is always a bleed possibility, but that would be the worst case, and even then it can be cauterized. But usually there are no problems. You just have to choose a good doctor and hospital. There are tonsillectomy methods better than others also.

BTW, my case was the same as yours! Pois also caused me tonsil stones! I remember after having an O. tonsil stones production was higher. Also, the migraine you say it's similar to the scalp headache i said.

Really, i could be wrong, but your case seems so similar to mine....i wouldn't think it twice, moreover you say that tonsil stones already cause you discomfort...so it's a no brainer!  :)

10 years of significant POIS-reduction, treatment consisting of daily (365 days/year) testosterone patches.

TRT must be checked out carefully with your doctor due to fertility, cardiac and other risks.

40+ years of severe 4-days-POIS, married, raised a family, started/ran a business

Good to hear Quasar. Just for the sake of diligence; what was the name of the antibiotic that you were put on?

Sorry, i don't remember the brand  :( But i'll try to find the prescription, or ask the doctor...I think it was the standard antibiotic they always use in all tonsillectomies. I remember the gave me Nolotil (Metamizol) and Paracetamol for pain.

Metamizol has a small risk of causing a severely suppressed immune system. The specific state is known as agranulocytosis, which is when "the concentration of granulocytes (a major class of white blood cells that includes neutrophils, basophils, and eosinophils) drops below 100 cells/mm^3 of blood, which is less than 5% of the normal value." - wikipedia

I wonder if in your case Metamizol just mildly suppressed your immune system and if that might be part of the reason why you're feeling better now.

Well, that would be very very improbable, because agranulocytosis cases are between 2 per 1,000,000 and 1 per 31,000. The only 100% way to be sure is to do a blood test to know my white blood cell count, but i haven't had any symptoms of that at all...

In some countries it is banned, although i don't know if they gave me it because i'm allergic to some NSAIDS, or maybe they give it to all post-tonsillectomy patients because it is a powerful analgesic.

BTW, i've been thinking about those that don't have tonsils (or had them removed), they could try to take what i took for 1 or 2 weeks (i'm not sure if it was 1 or 2 weeks, but i took the antibiotic until it was empty). That is, to take the antibiotic they prescribe for post-tonsillectomies (i have to check what was the brand, i suppose that is easy to check on many Internet sites) and to take Metamizole, both for 1 week or read the leaflet. The second one (Metamizole) is banned in many countries, so should be tricky to get it, and also, take into consideration that there is a very small risk of agranulocytosis. So, it's on your responsability  :P. But i suppose it's a good idea for those who have no problem with their tonsils (either they have no tonsils, or their tonsils don't become inflammed / they don't have tonsil stones).

Hope it helps!

Quasar, do you have acne? My theory is that the tonsil stones is the reason I have acne. Today I had spit out a big tonsil stone. Seems like they get bigger. Maybe because when the tonsils inflame there will be some grooves. And the tonsil stones infect the tonsils. And so it get worse.
So I am going to ask my GP to give me a note for the hospital so they can remove my tonsils.
POIS since 2000. Very bad since 2008. I knew that I have POIS since June 2010. Desensitization since March 2011. I stopped with desens in July 2016. I have 50% less POIS. And only 1 day of POIS. Purified CBD works for me, but I am allergic for CBD.
