Brain Fog
« on: April 14, 2011, 01:09:57 PM »
I want to create a place where we can start exploring ways to reduce brain fog.
It will be nice if you can list what you have used for brain fog that has helped and not helped you and also describe general and detailed ways they affected you so people can know possible side effect.
I personally hope to start in two months a trial of high dose piracetam plus centrophixne and vitamin b complex. Piracetam and centrophixne are nootropics.  I saw this combination on chronic fatigue syndrome forum hopefully it helps since it helped a chronic fatigue person.

Going crazy is starting a apple cider vinegar regimen and i know habibou has tried different things.

Just drop by and list all the things you have used that helped brain fog.

CC, this topic is really better suited to another area that discusses "General Cause/treatment". At present it has another name, but I'd like to change the name of the new destiny and move this post there.

The new destiny is presently POIS Causes->Other Causes and should be POIS Causes->General Alternative Causes/Treatment.

With the improper naming, this was the best location at the time, but this area is more for lifestyles and how things effect us, rather than treatments.

OK?

WITHOUT RESEARCH THERE WILL BE NO CURE!
Sessions 5 to 9 days, mostly Flu-like, joints, digestion problems, light cognitive.
Niacin has changed my lif though, now 1 day MAX.
Somewhere in this interaction with Niacin is the answer!

I'm not sure where/how this excellent topic moves, but the 2 weapons in my Brain Fog Arsenal:

- ADHD stimulants

- caffeine
10 years of significant POIS-reduction, treatment consisting of daily (365 days/year) testosterone patches.

TRT must be checked out carefully with your doctor due to fertility, cardiac and other risks.

40+ years of severe 4-days-POIS, married, raised a family, started/ran a business

Did you start the ADHD meds just for POIS or for ADHD/other?
If just for POIS why were they tried for this? (what train of logic)

To answer Cconfucius , I tried :

-Dopastim
-Vitamines added
-Effexor
-Fluoxétine (Prozac)

Nothing worked :s But when I took SSRI , it didn't last over 1 day and a half !  So i will retry it since I am down everyday due to too much O during a year :(

But i tried Ginkgo Biloba and it worked 40% to reduce the brain fog !

Things that I have taken that have NOT helped me:

Testosterone (transdermal)
Zinc
Ginkgo Biloba
Cabergoline
Modafinil
Caffeine
Selegiline
L-Tyrosine
5-HTP
Bupropion
Adrafinil
Piracetam
Hydergine
Choline
L-Phenylalanine

That's all I can remember for now, there are many more

Things that have had a positive effect on my POIS symptoms/prevention (if not my overall health, has to be considered first)

Alcohol, GABA
Nicotine
DHEA
Silodosin
Zoloft
Cialis
Viagra

All these things are probably bad news - only take if a doctor recommends it.

Things that work:

Fenugreek

I think the brain fog is linked to neurotransmitters, especially dopamine-adrenaline family.
Taurine = Anti-Pois

I thought the same thing b_jim, but my experimentation with selegiline/cabergoline/L-tyrosine/bupropion failed to allow me to penetrate the brain fog in any meaningful way when I was in POIS - compared to when I was outside POIS, then they had a dramatic effect.

Hurray you hve been in and out of the nootropic world, i was to scared out of fear i will irereversible damage from over use, even with what the name stand for.

I think pois affects neurotransmitters and other parts important in the brain.  That why does drugs dont work, i tried aderral without a dent on the brain fog.
Some of those drugs work with neurotransmitters already there but if neurotransmitter levels are down they dont have much to work with.

Yes, I have tried many treatments, mostly before I found the Naked Scientists thread, and out of sheer desperation to find some kind of cure. I wouldn't recommend this scattergun approach to anybody else - I was eventually fortunate enough to find something that helped (fenugreek), but that was after digesting all the thoughts and comments that I'd already read from fellow POIS sufferers. Certainly Nootropics should not be taken lightly, and not without the supervision of a doctor.

You raise an interesting point about the neurotransmitter levels being down to start with - it seems like a logical reason for various nootropics not working inside POIS.

Habibou: How is the effexor working for you on the mental symptoms? After some hormonal tests I might be starting this medication.
My cognitive symptoms started suddenly during an orgasm when I was 16. I then developed my POIS and cognitive/physical symptoms became very severe. Had to leave work and school. This year I had 60% success with regimen. Recently the symptoms have gotten worse again. Let's help each other.

Sometimes with brain fog it's hard to write in any language.  :D :P

But perhaps if we try to write out complete words instead of "u" for "you" for instance. Try to make  complete sentences. I know that we are not all native English, and we can't expect perfect grammar and spelling, but exactly for that reason, we should try to be as clear as we can. Re-read messages before sending or do a preview. etc.

Thanks

Yes, that's why the "correct english button" on The NSF was great! and with brain fog, we make more mistakes anyway  ;D

its brain fog , u are right daveman.....
can u see this .....

This is the result of Spell Check!
Fixed btain, changing it to brain.
Didn't fix "u" changing it to "you".

The clearer we write the better we will be understood.
