Vyvanse for POIS symptoms
« on: March 20, 2023, 04:49:33 PM »
Hi all, has anyone used amphetamines to counteract the horrible come down of post orgasm POIS symptoms?
I recently got a prescription and found it mildly useful but nothing spectacular at 20mg. I haven't been using it.

Yesterday I had an O and felt horrific afterward, per usual, brain fog, depression, inability to think clearly, fatigue, etc. I took 40mg vyvanse this morning and feel MUCH more stable and less like a half-dead creature. Normally my social skills are horrible after orgasm for a few days, whereas today I was socially competent and felt good and like my brain was functioning in a much higher 'alive' state.

The interesting thing about POIS is I've never seen improvement from anything that did not act on dopamine. I.e. vyvanse, pramipexole, bupropion, mucuna pruriens, b6, ginkgo, sometimes zinc. I suspect neurotransmitter involvement in my POIS.

I should add that my libido is not necessarily high on vyvanse but my ability to think and feel pleasure is vastly elevated. I wonder if vyvanse could be at least a temporary tool to keep me out of the depths of POIS? My symptoms typically last up to a week, with residual symptoms lasting two weeks. It has gotten better over the last decade, but I've noticed that if I orgasm twice in a one week span I am likely to crash extremely hard after the second one. I can get away with one in a blue moon, but multiple and I am a dead man.

I would not even consider such a powerful medication if it weren't for the fact that when I hit my lows post orgasm, the depression and apathy and brain fog can be so bad at times that it's almost dangerous. So I think even if its an amphetamine, it has to be better than dealing with the horrible POIS symptoms, even if its a short term band-aid until I come out of the cloud. Thoughts?

I definitely think neurotransmitters are involved for me as well, although also a lot of gut involvement. However, since the gut is heavily involved with neurotransmtiters, may all be part of the same.

Any thoughts on Vyvanse vs Modafinil? I haven't tried stimulants for it as I'm worried that it could temporarily alleviate symptoms but lead to a worse crash after that - have you found that at all?

I've used modafinil, and armodafinil. I much prefer armodafinil. It is overall a good drug with minimal side effects.

Yep, that is the issue with these stimulants. You get one night of bad sleep and you wake up feeling like death the next day. The vyvanse absolutely works, but I find it messes with my sleep and I definitely feel a crash later in the night and the next day. There is no free lunch here. It does, however, pull me out of horrible POIS lows but it is unfortunately not a good fix. I will continue to use it after O as needed if I feel like I simply cannot go on, but I wish I had a better solution.
