Fasting may have reduced my symptoms.
« on: April 28, 2022, 11:57:28 PM »
Hi,

I just wanted to share some information with everyone, I have been fasting lately (A dry fast till sunset) which has been pretty hard but I did notice that my POIS symptoms (both cognitive and physical fatigue) have been reduced after fasting for about 10 days. Has anyone else experienced something similar? Whether with dry fasting or intermittent fasting.

My POIS symptoms drop a bit during fasting periods. I'm not sure if this is because of a gut-POIS connection, or if it has to do with the bodies natural reaction to fasting. I for example often feel more energetic when fasting, and that could be offsetting the energy issues I have from POIS. I would caution you against drawing any conclusions after a 10 day period though. I've had treatments last as long as two months and then become substantially less effective.

  • Use Adaptogens and Antioxidants, they can help.

Other/additional theory I had when seeing the Reddit post you linked: He deprived some "bad" bacteria from certain FODMAP triggers he had. Those bacteria could have produced "bad" stuff he is reacting to when in POIS(?)

Some men with POIS are symptom free in ketosis, this could be another example of that.

One possibility is sensitivity to gluten or other foods. When people go keto, they are inherently not eating anywhere near as much gluten (if any) than if they were eating carbohydrates. If they've only tested "keto" but never tested "gluten free", and are indeed sensitive to gluten (like I am), they would put the solution down as "keto" when in fact it was going gluten-free. Same phenomena to be applied with fasting.

Not saying this applies to all or even majority of cases that claim fasting/keto/etc is their cure. Just throwing this out there as something people should be aware of when testing these things.
