Suggestions on how to deal with parents?
« on: October 05, 2021, 10:42:42 AM »
Wondering if anyone could give me some tips on how you have dealt with your parents.

My parents are socialist retarded people with no sympathy whatsoever for my unstable health.

No support, no understanding, nothing. Its very heavy to deal with. Thinking I should cut all contact with them.

Sorry to hear about your parents not understanding or supporting you. My parents have also struggled to understand why I am so anal in regards to my diet. They aren't aware I have POIS (and I am happy to keep it that way while I live with them), and my solution involves garlic, so I don't want them to know I've had a jerk every time I'm dicing up some raw garlic lmao. Maybe move out / aim towards becoming independent of them? I don't know what state your mind is like or the situation you're facing, but finding some kind of friends or anyone to talk to about this definitely helps. If you don't feel comfortable talking about it with your mates, then maybe a therapist or mentor, whatever, someone you trust. Or of course if you think there is a glimmer of hope in your parents understanding, consider some kind of radical honesty conversation. Let them know how you feel, what you are experiencing, and show them some of the basic scientific information that addresses POIS as a diagnosable condition, so that they take it seriously. And tell them what you require in terms of help and care, so that you have the best chance of finding a solution / managing it better / achieving your goals and dreams in life. If your parents still fail to listen and understand, just know it isn't uncommon, many people do not have a great relationship with their parents, and this is totally ok. As long as you've done your best, that's all that really matters.
