Hi Muon!,

Yes of course. I did not know this had a name. It is really unfortunate that this is so common among the invisible illness community. This is were assertiveness becomes very important for me. I need to speak clearly and a little louder just to get my points across. It did take me practice and it is not always easy when my anxiety tries kick in. That being said, listening to my doctor and coming up with treatment plans is part of the assertiveness. One time while I was struggling with focus out of POIS, I decided to bring my brother along with me to see my PCP to help discuss treatment plans. My brother was helping me explain my problems and I felt that my PCP was taking me more seriously because he sees that a loved one is witnessing my problems. So I think bringing in a relative or other loved one can definitely help with Medical Gaslighting. Although with COVID going on, you may be able to only bring in one person, at least where I live. If I feel after a couple or three visits that my doctor is not taking me seriously, despite me doing my best to be assertive, I go and look for a new doctor. I am not trying to waste any time.

I did not know this had a name.
That's the main reason why I made this thread.

For the most part there's no point in seeing any of these conventional doctors for our kind of health problems. These doctors aren't educated about POIS or other less understood conditions like ME.

Medicine applies drugs that are shown effective in large clinical trials on people with the same biological disorder.  This is evidence-based medicine.  Where a disorder exists with multiple causes, medicine struggles to cope. Many illnesses have multiple causes, or unknown causes, for example dementia, depression, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis etc. and even conditions outside the brain like chronic prostatitis.

If you do strike lucky and find a doctor who understands POIS is a real thing, then most of them will be limited in what they can prescribe you in fear of being sued, so they'll offer you things like antidepressants, antihistamines, beta blockers etc. Unless you happen to be very lucky and get a doctor who's willing to experiment with other stuff like immune therapy and off label drugs. But most pharmaceutical drugs are palliative meaning they'll only treat certain symptoms without ever curing you, unless it's something like antibiotics or antivirals. And taking these palliative drugs long term you will likely develop further health problems.

So my point is don't waste your time and effort with these doctors unless you want to risk being gaslighted and waste more of your precious time.

Always good to put a name on it. A numerous amount of doctors have let me down.
The common health care program of Sweden is not made for our kind of decease.

My parents did this to me when I tried telling them I have symptoms (Brain Fog) of POIS. Back then I did not know POIS was the reason. So, I told them I was experiencing some type of mental disorientation like ADHD type and my dad dismissed me.
