How to increase testosterone naturally
« on: November 06, 2020, 05:47:57 AM »
Many POISers (including me) have been diagnosed with low testosterone and some members have reported improvements with increasing testosterone. This study from March 2020 reports successful treatment of Post-orgasmic illness syndrome with testosterone injections. Similar studies can be found at POIS Paper Archive - a list of scientific articles about POIS.

This list contains things to do naturally to improve the testosterone levels. It will successively be extended and completed with supported science and intresting links. I'm also trying to rank the points from most (top) to least (bottom) effective, though such rank is of cource difficult to do.

THINGS THAT INCREASE/BALANCES TESTOSTERONE

1. Activities (I believe things in this category stands for about 70% of the increas of testosterone, and they don't cost anything too!)
  • Reducing stress (reducing long term high cortisol) (2)
  • Better sleep is extremely important, adjust the circadian rytm by waking up early, getting light exposure in the morning, sun on your body and exercise, going to bed early and turn light down and dont watch computerscreens last 2 hours (2, 3)
  • Intermittent Fasting och longer fast (2,3)
  • High-Intensity Exercise (at least 30 minutes three times a week)
  • Heavy Weight Training + Interval Training (2)
  • Loosing weight
  • Loosing belly fat, healing bloating (belly fat stores estrogens = anti testosterone) (2)
  • Healing leaky gut (good gut bacteria is assosiated with good testosterone levels) (3)
  • Bath with epsom salt+baking soda+sugar healths intsetins/digestion and is destressing (3)
  • Strength Training
  • Liver detoxifying (2)
  • Man-spreading. Really, whaaat? Read all about it in this poll I've made.

2. Foods
  • Paleo diet
  • Healthy Fats (coconut oil (3), avocados, butter, free range egg yolk (3), omega 3, fish oils) (2)
  • Limit or eliminate sugar from your diet
  • Shellfish
  • Fish (salmons, sardines, tuna)
  • Liver (3)
  • Spinach
  • Cruciferous vegetables (anti-estrogen foods like broccoli, kale, brussel sprouts, cabbage)
  • Quinoa
  • Ginger

3. Supplements

  • GABA
  • Fenugreek
  • Sarsaparilla (1)
  • Saw Palmetto (1) (5-ARI, 1-AB)
  • Puncturevine, Tribulus Terrestris (1) (LH, +/-)
  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin E
  • Vitamin B3
  • Vitamin B-complex
  • Boron (3)
  • Inositol (3)
  • Taurine (+/-)
  • Salt/electrolytes (himalayan salt, sea salt, magnesium/potassium/calcium salts)

  • Pycnogenol (pine tree bark extract, Pinus Pinaster)
  • Pau d'arco (AIs)
  • Grape Seed (AIs)
  • Pomegranate (AIs)

THINGS THAT DECREASE TESTOSTERONE

1. Activities
  • Stress
  • Relational problems (1)
  • Sedimentary lifestyle
  • Going to bed late, watching computerscreens/smartphones/TV late
  • Porn/masterbation
  • Not getting enough sunshine

  • N-acetyl cysteine
  • Black Cohosh (Actaea racemosa)
  • Chaste Tree (Vitex agnus-castus)
  • White Peony

4. Other
  • Varicocele (varicose veins in testicles). This should feel like a bag of worms around the testes and can be removed surgically or possible by nutrition.

UNSURE IF ENOUGHT EFFECTIVE IN INCREASING TESTOSTERONE
  • Progesterone cream
  • Wild Yam Root cream

UNSURE IF DECREASE OR INCREASE
  • Walnuts/almondsin increased levels of sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), which binds to testosterone, meaning there was less free testosterone in the body. (3)
  • Stinging nettle
  • More sex

It could be the sudden influx of it by exogenously administering it induces changes in a body system as T has impact on many systems whereas the natural continuous T release isn't as surging thus doesn't exceed the threshold for POIS change to occur it's a theory on why exogenous T can work but I'm not claiming it just theorizing-if anyone has increased T naturally and had POIS change please tell that.

And some tips you listed are good.

I recommend taking a look at Ray Peat ideas if you wanna increase Testosterone and optimize health and hormones in general his views aren't mainstream but if you look into it you understand why he recommends what he does in general it's about maximizing metabolism through changing diet and lifestyle he talks about how some hormones are stress hormones at certain amounts and can trigger imbalances and how other hormones have protective effect and tells how things in life from food/lifestyle/environment/etc. impact them.

It's worth giving Ray Peat ideas a look many have had improvements and it may help POIS too.

BoneBroth, excellent!
10 years of significant POIS-reduction, treatment consisting of daily (365 days/year) testosterone patches.

TRT must be checked out carefully with your doctor due to fertility, cardiac and other risks.

Thanks!  :)  and please come with other suggestions. Many of the things on the list not only improve testosterone but normalizes all hormon levels. For example, things that increases testosterone are also beneficial for human growth hormone (HGH). Testosterone patches dramatically decreses your own production of testosterone. So once you started using patches, it will not help your own production so you have to continue the patches, or quit it and try to kick start the normal production with things on the list above.

I've added some videos and can recommend starting with Christoffer Walker's channel which is loaded with information on the subject:

When looking with new glasses at Quantums "POIS Types Chart" (https://poiscenter.com/forums/index.php?topic=2338.0)  many of the methods are actually known for stimulating testosteone. At least theese:

1 - Niacin, B3
2 - TRT (testosterone therapy)
3 - Fenugreek and garlic
4 - Lecithine/choline/eggs
5 - Taurine
7 - Gluten-free diet
13 - CBD oil  ( Cannabidiol hemp oil)
14 - Physalis/groundcherries

Just to add: competitive interaction (as in physical sports) can also increase testosterone:

Male, INTJ. POIS symptoms: red eyes, ear-pain, anxiety, speech problems, pale/ugly skin, stiff neck, double chin, tinnitus, light sensitivity. POIS even after stimulation without O.

This meta analysis study was just posted by Suppversity on Facebook
Examining the Effects of Herbs on Testosterone Concentrations in Men: A Systematic Review
"... The main findings of this review indicate that 2 herbal extracts, fenugreek seed extracts and ashwagandha root and root/leaf extracts, have positive effects on testosterone concentrations in men.
Also, some evidence exists for another herb and herbal extract, Asian red ginseng and forskohlii root extract.  "

I personally have very good experience with Ashwagandha (but you need to cycle it if getting side effects like heart palpitations at bed time)

UNSURE IF DECREASE OR INCREASE
  • Puncturevine (Tribulus Terrestris)

I personally have very very good experience with it for POIS, indepenent of the fact what it does to Testosterone. My day after is quite OK with it (when stacking it with my other supplements... when taking Tribulus away i'm less stable in stamina, mood...)

According to Examine.com Fenugreek increases testosterone through it's 5AR inhibition properties. It lowers the conversion of testosterone to DHT, which sounds alright but, as those of us that have taken Finasteride can tell you, it has a very negative impact on your sexual health. DHT is even more androgenic than testosterone. You don't want to trade it for more Test.

That said, Fenugreek is a fantastic treatment for my POIS. I take as little as I need though and not until about 12 hours after O when my symptoms really start. I believe it works acutely through on my immune system though not through a hormonal effect.

What could Fenugreek change in immunity lowering POIS?

Varicoceles (varicose veins around the testicles) has been discussed earlier in this forum but today I watched this video by Christoffer Walker who claims that varicoceles can dramatically decrease the production of testosterone in the testicles and if the varicose veins are beeing surgically removed the level of testosterone is increased. Checking for varicoceles might not be first priority by your doctor since it includes ultrasound machinery. However it should be pretty easy to check yourself as it feels like a "bag of worms", mostly around the left testicle (by some reason). I certenly have it (it might be related to my other varicose veins on my left leg) and other members here also have it. If it's important to testosterone, it might very well be important for POIS too! Walker also sais that he knows a guy that improved the varicoceles just by taking some specific supplements. Has anyone got it removed?

"Around 15% to 20% of all adult males, up to 35% to 40% of men who are evaluated for male infertility, and around 80% of men who are infertile due to some other cause, have varicocele."

In this webinar from today, dr Thierry Hertoghe gives easy-to-understand explanations and describe typhical symptoms of deficiency of testosterone, human growth hormones and other hormones. He suggest what to do to treat the deficiencies with proper nutrition and hormonal treatments. I think we should gather resources for a session with Hertoghe to hear what he has to say about POIS. There are not many doctors who can measure up to his knowledge of hormones.

Have you ever thought about why your balls are outside the body when every other organ is not? Well they want to be cool and feel free man! When you sit with your legs crossed all day the testicles might not do their job properly, and their job is to produce testosterone. Dr. Stephannie Walker, an Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Wake Forest University, claims the way we sit may effect a lot more than we think: "I've seen studies where, when a person's posture was manipulated, the person's feelings and behaviors changed along with their hormone levels. Participants saw an increase in testosterone and a decrease in cortisol, which is linked to stress.". There are also studies showing that man-spread increases our preception of masculinity (with may affect the production of testosterone).

I'm a frequent leg crosser, and when thinking about it, thats how I can sit at the computer for hours! I have to change that.

Please do my man-spread-poll here!

Yeah, I heard about it, but I wasn’t that interested. After checking some facts, it appears more interesting though. However I practically swore to myself not to buy any more new supplements as I have too many as it is and I just want to get over them before attempting to cure myself.

RemarkableNeck had no luck with Shilajit, but it is true that he also did not improve on maca or tribulus either, so only some of us may benefit from testosterone boosters.
https://poiscenter.com/forums/index.php?topic=4254.msg45551#msg45551

Some other mechanisms of its action also need to be mentioned:

Following subacute (5days) treatment, there was decrease in 5-hydroxytryptamine and 5-hydroxyindole acetic acid concentrations and an increase in the levels of dopamine, homovanillic acid and 3.4-dihydroxyphenyl-acetic acid concentrations, with insignificant effects on noradrenaline and 3-methoxy-4- hydroxyphenylethylene glycol levels. The observed neurochemical effects induced by Shilajit, indicating a decrease in rat brain 5-hydroxytryptamine turnover, associated with an increase in dopaminergic activity, helps to explain the observed nootropic and anxiolytic effects of the drug.
Shilajit, apart from being used in diverse clinical conditions in Ayurveda, has been proposed to arrest aging and induce rejuvenation, and to improve memory.
It has now been shown to contain significant quantities of organic compounds, including the bioactive oxygenated dibenzo-alpha-pyrones, tirucallane triterpenes, phenolic lipids and small tannoids.

The cause is probably the senescence of sexual organs and resultant inducible SASP, which also acts as a kind of non-diabetic metabolic syndrome.
