I'm new to the group, my report so far
« on: November 03, 2019, 04:59:52 PM »
Hello guys, I'm new here! My name is Ricardo, I am from Brazil, I am 23 years old, first wanted to say that I am very happy to find out that I am not alone, I had searched many times on the internet if it was normal to feel extreme tiredness days after ejaculation, I saw that there is a loss of energy but always thought that in my case was very exaggerated, out of the ordinary, today I decided to relate my research with some disease or syndrome and ended up discovering what I have, fortunately found a name for what I feel, surely that is because I identified with the main symptoms.
I do not have sex often and avoid masturbating as much as possible, but whenever I masturbate the symptoms appear and last about 5 days, the ones that bother me and disturb my life, are:

- extreme fatigue, as they end up being useless the days after ejaculation, I can't do anything productive

- difficulty concentrating, can't study or focus on anything, it's horrible;

- even a low-intensity headache ends up disrupting the previous symptoms even more;

- confusion, coming from extreme fatigue and difficulty concentrating, I have a little difficulty organizing my thoughts and speaking what I think, it is as if my body was too lazy to think, in those moments just the desire to sleep;

- Muscle weakness, this was the first symptom I noticed, because whenever I ejaculated I felt very weak when playing sports or doing any kind of physical exercise, it was at these times that I related muscle weakness to masturbation, but I thought it was normal.

If I masturbate more than once in a short time, the symptoms are much more aggressive and I get sick with a sore throat, cough, fever, full-body muscle pain and runny nose. Therefore, I avoid masturbating as much as possible, and doing so more than once in a short period of time, with no chance, the risk of getting sick is very high, it has happened several times. When all the symptoms come together, the only desire I have is to lie down, rest or sleep, any other activity is distressing and tiring, it disturbs my life a lot and I am sure that it disturbs any relationship I have.
I do not understand much on the subject yet personal, I do not know how to alleviate the symptoms, if you have treatment, what are the causes, nothing! so if you can tell me something to read, thank you.
I found out what I got, but now what? what do I do?

(08/08/20) update 1:
- Garlic improves my brain fog by 70%! when I have symptoms of POIS, I cut a clove of garlic into very small pieces and drink it with water, the taste is not very pleasant, but it is worth it and the improvement is instantaneous.
- I started a 100% gluten free diet

(12/15/20) update 2:
- I spent 4 months on a super healthy gluten-free and lactose-free diet, I realized that I must eat well and at the right times, my energy increased too much in that period. I kept abstinence for 3 months and then I ejaculated 2 times as a test and almost had no symptoms of POIS, a few days later I ejaculated again and had the classic symptoms of POIS, I think I misplaced my luck, this cannot be something frequent for me.
- In the past few days, I ended up uncontrolling my food and not eating right, again I felt extremely weak and without any energy, I had 2 ejaculations in that period and I had horrible symptoms of POIS.
- I intend to: organize my food again; sleep early and wake up early; and i'm also thinking of looking for a doctor to help me, because i think my body doesn't absorb nutrients from food properly so i get so weak when i delay a meal.

Hi Ricardo, and welcome,

For possible way to get relief, see some methods that have been helpful for other members at https://poiscenter.com/forums/index.php?topic=2338.msg19448#msg19448 .

You may slowly see which one may be ok for you to try, by discussing with a health professional, and try only one method at a time.

The worsening of symptoms that comes with repetitive releases is common for almost all POIS sufferers, so for us, ejaculations are better to be few and far between.

You are 100% responsible for what you do with anything I post on this forum and of any consequence it could have for you.  Forum rule: ""Do not use POISCenter as a substitute for, or to give, medical advice" Read the remaining part at http://poiscenter.com/forums/index.php?topic=1.msg10259#msg10259

If Dr Santos doesn’t see POIS patients, maybe she can recommend a doctor. Most doctors are not sympathetic to POIS, so her recommendation might put you in a better position to find one who will...listen to you.

Welcome Ricardo!!

I am from South America as well. In the US for decades now.

Would you share at what age your symptoms started?

Was it gradual or sudden onset?
Mine was sudden at age 27. Was taking 4 grams os slo-niacin for slightly elevated cholesterol.
After a few weeks I startled noticing weird symptoms with it like overwhelmed and down.
Got Sick with what might have been a virus, went to Gym to “sweat it out” ( bad idea always).
Had sex with wife that night once felt worse and the next day was sick and  pale, and the POIS symptoms started.

Does anyone in your family has Fibromyalgia or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome? My mother had Fibromyalgia and my sister too. Cousins with CFS. No relation disclosed to me to having POIS like symptoms.

My Father did not have POIS whatsoever per my mother. How about yours. Have not seen a father to son link reported ever, which is curious.

I ended up with a POIS/CFS combo.

Sharing history and symptoms helps establishing patterns and subgroups that may eventually compare notes on what helps.

Again welcome.
Simultaneous onset of CFS and POIS since Feb 1993. Married since 1989.

Helped by Immunocal (I explained how to take in previous posts).  Some relief on day one and day two.  It affects neurotransmitters.

Hi ricardo brasil,

Have you checked your vitamin D level? If not, please do so.

I have these symptoms since always, I thought it was normal, but I have now found that they are not. I am a very closed guy and never talked to anyone about it, I have no information if anyone in my family has had these symptoms.
When I ejaculated once, I never got sick, but I always had the classic symptoms of POIS, but if I do it more than once or in a near period, I end up getting sick as if I had a virus!

I am currently living alone and studying hard, I realized that the symptoms got stronger, I do my best to maintain abstinence, but sometimes it happens involuntarily at night and I end up losing 4 ... 5 days of my life ... The worst thing is that it disturbs a lot in studies, without focus, without concentration, extreme fatigue and without emotions ...

Can vitamin D be related to POIS symptoms?

There could be a relation between those: https://poiscenter.com/forums/index.php?topic=257.0
Check your vitamin D level first before you start taking any supplements which includes Vitamin D.

Have you contacted Dr. Santos?

Well, when I got in touch, they answered the following:

"We are back to discuss with the POIS study group this week.
Unfortunately, we don't have much to add regarding treatment at the moment. Our focus in the previous publication was to investigate the participation of the immune system in this complex syndrome, since some works in the literature suggest a possible reaction of auto-reactivity. Our findings did not confirm this hypothesis. Based on the experience we have had with our patient here in São Paulo and other reports in the medical literature, the only approach at the moment is psychotherapy, which you must have already tried. If we have any evolution in treatment we will contact you, but at the moment we have no way to help you more objectively. "

Bollocks
I wonder what tests they actually did I would not be surprised if they did some of those generalized tests that probably show little to nothing when the disorders are due to Mast Cell Activation Disorders for example or some deeper issues that have more specific physical blood markers.

Do professionals even put in enough effort regarding POIS?

Why many think it's psychological when there have been POISers who tried therapy and even psychological medicines and that had zero improvement in their symptoms?

There should be some other form of approach when checking out for what could be causing POIS.

No, they did specialized testing, it's in the brazilian paper. However you are right that you won't see if mast cells are being activated with these measurements. They did put effort into it though.

Only a few. Sometimes there are other reasons involved, like a lack of resources, interest, financial management.

Why many think it's psychological when there have been POISers who tried therapy and even psychological medicines and that had zero improvement in their symptoms?
Typical reflex to get rid of the patient from my experience or lack of understanding or not aware of all the literature, lack of time etc.

Are there any markers that have ever been consistently found in POISers that could be unique to it or there seem to not be any common health or markers tests parameters that can be the physical detectors for POIS?
