took niacin 250 mg , 1st dose....symptoms ???

i took it gnc 250 mg after food , i felt a bit itchy , for a bit , the other symptom i get is i cannot sleep at the time i sleep usually .......
even i took xanax 0.25  , i will continue taking , i hope it bring good to me ......
