Symptoms of mine
« on: July 19, 2018, 09:21:03 PM »
My symptoms are, well, obviously, odd (what else). For one, my thinking ability decreases, in particular it seems that certain areas in the brain are slightly inhibited, sometimes more, sometimes less. In effect this decreases my concentration though it mostly seems to require me to concentrate harder. Often I can express myself less well, though partly this is also just by the "confusion" of the act that came before (sort of the opposite of reading a book or learning, after all). That is, sometimes it is a genuine symptom, sometimes I am not so sure.

Then, in a way more curiously, I always get a wrong posture. I lose all feeling for a correct posture, and my posture always seems wrong. And I always try to correct it, e.g. by stretching or changing it, which always makes it worse (however in the moment it still seems necessary). My walk becomes ungainly due to the bad posture which is mostly centered on my hip- and lower spine-area. Either my loins seem too much forwards, clearly partly by the "movements" and adjustments of the act that led this, or my butt too far out. Usually a slightly crooked mixture, after some adjustments...
All of this is accompanied by having an unclear feeling of my body, similar to the above inhibition in thinking.

In particular I wonder if anyone experiences a similar symptom connected to the posture, which is often the most annoying and embarassing, because it seems kind of obvious, at least it feels that way and certainly sometimes must look quite odd and perhaps suspicious...

And while it may not be QUITE so graphics as it may have sounded, it is still quite bad.

Does anyone know this problem?

Hi mxh,

Having cognitive problems in POIS is quite common, and all those symptoms you mention are known POIS symptoms ( concentration problem, speech problem, problem-solving difficulty, and the like).  Do you have emotional symptoms as well, like irritability, mood swings, anxiety?

Neuromuscular problems like the one you described ( posture, walking problems) are also known, even if not exactly like yours - we all have our specific "kit" of POIS symptoms, but they all revolve around common themes.  Some have muscle pain, or twitching, or clumsiness/coordination problems, sagging face muscles, lack of muscle tone, etc.

Some POIS sufferers with mostly cognitive and muscular symptoms have relief when using niacin before O.  Taurine is helpful, also, for some, with muscular problems.    See http://poiscenter.com/forums/index.php?topic=2338.msg19448#msg19448 for more info on these and other methods that can relief POIS ( but no one method is efficient for everybody, though)

You could also be interested in Fernando's posts about postural approach of POIS ( see, for example, at http://poiscenter.com/forums/index.php?topic=2714.msg24134#msg24134 .

Yes I've got similar postural problems as well. Kyphosis is making it even worse though. Maintaining posture while sitting on something especially without back support is very hard to do. It drains so much energy. It's like some muscles are weak and others have to overcompensate for that. Like I said sitting without back support is one of the worse things for me even for a few minutes especially in POIS mode. I'm often busy adjusting posture and changing positions because static positions are hard to maintain.

The above could lead to abnormal Spine Curvature. I suspect connective tissue being affected by inflammation. Perhaps less intracellular calcium in muscle cells during POIS may play a role as well.
