lond period of total abstinence
« on: April 17, 2018, 04:03:28 AM »
i have recently found that a long period of abstinence, 6 months, followed by very weak ejaculations and absolutely no porn or graphic content i have very small symptoms ...

i would like to ask you if you think it could be that some muscle or tissue in my body has actually been able to heal??

or could it be that some hormones finally got back to normal levels?

what do you think?

cognitive symptoms are totallt gone..

only suffers some heart and lung issues, but very ok over all

I stumbled upon this article while looking for something else, saw your thread and thought this might be relevant to share:

I find that shorter periods (e.g., 3 weeks’ abstinence) have also been very helpful.

As “Observer” has pointed out, this might be due to the fact that TRT works for me, so abstinence might prolong my beneficial effect.

10 years of significant POIS-reduction, treatment consisting of daily (365 days/year) testosterone patches.

TRT must be checked out carefully with your doctor due to fertility, cardiac and other risks.

40+ years of severe 4-days-POIS, married, raised a family, started/ran a business

That is why I have my doubts about the semen allergy theory as the overarching explanation for POIS. It could be that some variants of POIS might be due to that semen allergy, but considering the fact that abstinence reduces the symptoms leads me to think that for you it is more neurotransmitter/hormonal imbalance

Possibly the long period of abstinence + good lifestyle habits + abstaining from porn leads to the body responding to ejaculation without excessive release of neurotransmitters/opioids (which is released in excess in porn induced ejaculation) thats why your body may be able to handle it

I think the human body isn't able to sustain prolonged overstimulation + excessive ejaculation with porn, due to the neurochemical cycle. Ejaculation/orgasm is not a once off pleasure response but occurs in cycles, with satiety response that occurs afterwards. With porn it overrides that satiety feeling, thats why POIS symptoms start to occur. Therefore with prolonged abstinence the body can go back to homeostasis back to natural levels of functioning are acheived.

If this theory of consuming internet porn in an excessive manner is a possible root cause to suffer POIS. I think, many more cases should begin to appear the more and more.... Since today porn consumption is increasing in general. Suppose It is true that now with the internet, porn consumption is much easier than before.

I think It is a very interesting theory... But should be demostrated this could be the root cause.

Also, if long period of abstinence (including porn abstinence) helps reducing or even completelly remove POIS symtoms... This could be a very good theory to consider.

Its possible that chronic porn use causes downregulation of dopamine/other neurotransmitter (opioid) receptors. So when you abstain for a short period of time the receptors are not fully recovered back to normal levels, then a relapse causes surge of dopamine + other neurotransmitters (opioids/serotonin) which hits those receptors hard (you get wrecked by the intensity) followed by a hard depletion after. Basically not the regular peak then gradual fall, but a super intense peak and super intense crash.

Long period of abstinence (2+ years) may regulate the receptors/neurotransmitters back to 'regular' functioning levels

Thats what I think could be causing POIS in porn users

Explained on another site
https://sexualreboot.com/topic/all-about-neurotransmitters/

"This is a good theory.Dopamine responds IMMEDIATELY to addictions.Infact, the drop in dopamine goes much lower for us than for normal people and prolactin shoots up much higher THAT IS THE REASON LOT OF US GET POIS,NOT BECAUSE OF ALLERGIC REACTION BULLSHIT.

So I guess if we want to fix POIS we need to normalize the dopamine levels by (as HANS said) fixing the mental/psychological aspects of our lives.

Quitting the addictions are the best.

This is what happens to normal people during mtb. and after ejaculation:

normal guy masturbates > dopamine elevates > normal guy ejaculates > dopamine lowers, then after a while goes back to normal levels, prolactin elevates for a while then goes back to normal levels

This is what happens to us,(mostly) pois and ill people during mtb. and after ejaculation:

we masturbate > dopamine goes from way too low to dangerously high > we ejaculate > dopamine drops TOO low and prolactin shoots TOO HIGH and the end result is POIS (brain fog,Alzheimer?s,Parkinson?s shaking, chronic fatigue, anhedonia, blood sugar drop)

For a normal person their neuros stabilize in a short while and they don?t experience pois, while our prolactin stays high for DAYS and our dopamine levels stabilize to LOW LEVELS ONLY.For our brain the ?normal? level is low."

"I was experimenting with masturbation and came to a conclusion that will help a little bit pois.

Basically my (note: my case, you can have different one but give this a try) POIS comes from overstimulation.

Tried to masturbate using some material that not necesserely would make me want to masturbate (for example very fat woman) and ejaculate without overstimulating myself by ?oh boy,I?m gonna make the biggest load of my life for this goddess? thinking like this.

Let me tell you I tried doing this ?neutral,I don?t care? masturbation ejaculation 2 times before and it makes a huge difference in POIS.

Overstimulating: Parkinson?s hand shaking,blurry vision,blood sugar drop,brain fog,heavy fatigue and crazy sleepiness

Without overstimulation: NO PARKINSON?S!!!!,feeling 4-5% of a brain fog, feeling some sleepiness. After 10 minutes I could continue my day where I left off.

Clearly the dopamine, prolactin connection gets really fucked up if you fully enjoy your masturbation or sex and we have fucked up neuros so I recommend you to masturbate this time with an [MOD EDIT: URL Removed] okay face, don?t let yourself overstimulated, don?t try to squeeze out a huge load just simply??. have a masturbation and tell me if it lessens your POIS like it did mine."

May be the root cause for some variants of POIS, POIS is just a label used to describe the adverse effects after ejaculation which could have different variants/causes for different people

Some people had POIS even before the advent of high speed internet porn

I am far from being a doctor. You could say that I just discovered POIS yesterday. I mean, I had been suffering it for aprox 4 years and a half. And from all this time, only this last two months of knowing all this has a name: POIS.

I am reading right now what a neurotransmiter is. What dopamine is. What a neurohormone... And so many many things....

I agree that POIS could have many different causes and sources. And even more so taking into account there are different POIS subtypes. This is why I only said could be a good theory. Research and demostration is a long process that needs to be done by professionals, researchers and so on...

I wish I had the good answer to all that. But unfortunatelly I don't have It.

What I can do so far is to spread the word to all the doctors I can. In order they learn more about It. Giving them the RFP doc from NORD. Hoping soon some of them will apply and a research begins.

Of course, any ideas, on the good direction. Like this theory of neurotransmitters are welcome.

I have 3 thoughts on this thread:

1) After a prolonged period of abstinence, e.g. 3 weeks, sometimes I feel no POIS the first time I have an orgasm, but then after a couple of orgasms, it all comes back, unfortunately.

2) We talk a lot about dopamine. I have tested a whole bunch of hormones and also serotonin, but I didn't test dopamine, since the test is a little more complicated (in the lab I asked, they told me I had to collect urine for 24 hours - it made it a little complicated, so I didn't test it). Has anyone actually tested their dopamine after ejaculation? I also really believe dopamine plays a key role.

By the way, last time when I was in (minor) POIS, I got on a horseback for the first time in my life - this was overexciting for me, I don't know what my brain produced, but the POIS disappeared (well, until the next attack). I take this anecdote as evidence that the main cause is neurological, something with neurons or neurotransmitters.

3) It's a very interesting theory that less intense orgasms may lead to reduction in POIS. It is true that most of the POIS sufferers here (please correct me if I am wrong) also suffer from premature ejaculation, and I think this is due to hyperintense stimulation  and arousal. My ex-gf used to tell me that I fill up the condom with really a lot of sperm, compared to her ex'es (I didn't have POIS at the time). I have a thought: what about those drugs (now I've heard some of them have been approved - but they are drugs, after all) that delay orgasm? Do you know if they also make the orgasm less intense? Has anyone tried with these? On the other hand, however, a long period of abstinence would yield more intense orgasms - if the intensity of the orgasm means less POIS, how come that a long period of abstinence happens to reduce symptoms?

My doctor once told me a story about a POIS patient getting an asthma attack while riding a horse. The horse went berserk, ran across the highway and almost hit a car. The moment the rider saw the car incoming he startled and his asthma attack went away pronto from that moment on. Makes me wonder if it has anything to do with catecholamine levels.

Another patient (which happen to be a doctor himself) went into shock after the first subcutane injection with his sperm while doing a desenz treatment. He did receive I believe 2 Epinephrine autoinjector shots while he was in shock. Not only did he recover from the shock but from POIS as well 100%. Makes me wonder if the epipen cured him from POIS. Perhaps his catecholamine balance/levels were restored by this autoinjector.

My thoughts:

1). I'm not exactly sure of this because I've had this happen when my pois was active.  My thought is that each O spreads hormones and inflammation from your gut to your brain faster and more efficiently with each O, so there may be a "tipping" point.

2). Dopamine may be "low" after O but increasing dopamine does not eliminate pois.  Imo, pois is inflammatory in nature, hence why many treatments here are anti-inflammatory related.  Low dopamine would be basically lack of motivation but is no way near what poisers experience.

3). I do not have premature ejaculation.  The reason you fill the condom up is because you probably abstain for a week or so.  The longer you wait, the more ejaculate.

My doctor once told me a story about a POIS patient getting an asthma attack while riding a horse. The horse went berserk, ran across the highway and almost hit a car. My POIS managed with Diet (@ diet that 100% manages my pois)Believe my POIS stems from inflammation in the gut. O = neuro POIS from inflammation from the gut
