Dilated pupils
« on: October 09, 2017, 06:41:19 PM »
One of my symptoms thats bothers me incredibly is the dilated pupils I get. You will hardly be able to see any blue in my eyes in a normally lighted room. The only thing that makes them small is when I'm in strong day light or if I shine a bright light in my eyes. It takes about a month for them to recover back to normal after an O but I always have more than 1 O every month so they are dilated the whole time

It is extremely frustrating as a lot of people assume I am on drugs  because they are so big. When accompanied with brain fog and slurring my words it makes it very hard for me to leave a good impression on new people I meet without them thinking I'm a total weirdo or a druggie. :'(

Is there anything that can help me?

Hi Alex,

Dilatation of the pupil, also called mydriasis in medical terms, can be due to different cause, like too much norepinephrine, or blockage of the acetylcholine action, or increased intracranial pressure, ans so on.   You can check at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mydriasis for more details.

Do you have headaches, and do you have discomfort or pain in the eyes as soon as there is bright or moderate bright light, like outdoor on a sunny day ?   This last symptom is called "photophobia", see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photophobia , and is caused by too much light entering the eye, like when the pupil is too dilated.

We know that POIS brings, in some sufferer if not all, certain symptoms of imbalance of the autonomous nervous system.  In your case, it seems to manifest more as a pupil dilatation problem.  In my case, it manifest as low blood pressure ( hypotension), another manifestation of autonomous system imbalance.

I suggest you consult an eye specialist, because some investigation could be done to find the exact cause in your case.  Also, if judged appropriate by the physician, some drops can be prescribed ( miotic eyedrops like pilocarpine), that can reduce the size of the pupil, by inducing miosis ( pupil contraction, which is the opposite of mydriasis).

In general, I suggest you avoid coffee or other stimulants, like energy drink, since they can cause mydriasis.

Anything that help raise acetylcholine can help to contract the pupil, so adding lecithin in your diet could help, and surely not worsen the condition.  Lecithin supplements, or eggs, are good sources of choline.  Incidentally, some members report less POIS symptoms with daily eggs consumption.

I hope this will help you elaborate a strategy to help control your mydriasis problem.

Ok thank you for the advice Quantum I really appreciate it  :) I have seen an eye specialist before for an eye test and they just said I had nothing wrong with my eyes apart from having dry eyes, at the time I was doing the eye test because of the redness in my eyes I get from POIS. I have told my doctor also about the dilated pupils and he didn't know of an medication which could help. I do get headaches from POIS but I don't really get Photophobia.

I was at an optician to get new glasses, around 10:30 in the morning.
Had an orgasm the night before.

Comment by the optician: He has never seen pupils as big as mine. And opticians probably see a lot of pupils :-)

Interesting, berlin1984!
10 years of significant POIS-reduction, treatment consisting of daily (365 days/year) testosterone patches.

TRT must be checked out carefully with your doctor due to fertility, cardiac and other risks.

40+ years of severe 4-days-POIS, married, raised a family, started/ran a business
