How to get trough a POIS period
« on: November 01, 2011, 03:36:07 AM »
Hi all,

Today is a start for a new POIS attack for me. In my case it normally takes one week before the symtoms are gone. I have to go to work today, but I am still sitting at home. The time goes by ten times slower with POIS. Maybe it is a strange question, but how you guys get trough this time, especially at work? I hope that somebody can give me some clever tips, but I guess it is just waiting and in the mean time suffering......

I usually take an Ibprofen for the first day or two, if it is "unlivable".

For me, I don't know if it works for others, if I'm having trouble with depression or anxiety, a Xanax helps me get through the worst.

I don't like drugging myself, but sometimes it's the only way through.

Get well soon!

WITHOUT RESEARCH THERE WILL BE NO CURE!
Sessions 5 to 9 days, mostly Flu-like, joints, digestion problems, light cognitive.
Niacin has changed my lif though, now 1 day MAX.
Somewhere in this interaction with Niacin is the answer!

Thanks Daveman.
I will think about the Xanax, though -like you- I do not like taking these kind of medicines.

One trick that I find helpful to remember things better while in POIS is hand writing anything important that you need to remember down on paper. Just the physical act of writing it helps me remember it better. Keeping a pocket-sized notebook on your person makes it easier. It's kind of like giving your mind a second arm to help you juggle all of the things you need to hold in your head.

Also remember when things get tough, it's not your fault, it's because you have a disabling disease and one we are probably well on our way to solving.
Taking ginger tea, no wheat, fenugreek+green tea/garlic, saw palmetto, niacin, boswellia, huperzine, B complex and nutmeg. See my treatment summary post for more info: http://poiscenter.com/forums/index.php?topic=81.msg3513#msg3513

busy yourself with something not mentally challenging but interesting like video games.  Because of school and work, the week goes superfast for me.

Thanks guys for the tips. I reply a bit late, I was so busy the last weeks.
Good point Vincent. I actually think a lot of times it is my fault. During a POIS period I constantly think: why I chose for these couple of seconds pleasure and did not think about the subsequent suffering? Thanks man.

Hi Sameer!

Thanks for asking! I am doing much better! I take every day fenugreek and 2-3 times in the week the vitamine pills that contain B1,B6 and B12. Again many thanks for recommending me these vitamines! I hope you are also doing better than before.

Regards,
Daniel

I force myself to go to the gym. The key for me is to do something strenuous that makes me sweat. Lifting weights is fine, but some cardio is the best.

i'm going through a terrible POIS period right now. had some happy-time last night and it just destroyed me upon waking up this morning. brain-fog, weird pressure headaches, mood-swings, depression and feelings of total apathy...just this general feeling of being totally off-center and not "myself" at all. i know it's not the best remedy, but i usually have to isolate myself for a while and do things to sort of distract myself from the symptoms...video games, movies, online games, etc. luckily my POIS only lasts about 24 hours but in that time period it is TRULY debilitating.

i signed up on this forum because when i post my negative symptoms elsewhere people tell me to "get over it" and that i'm just "feeling guilty." which makes no sense at all considering i have zero religious affiliation whatsoever  ::) it's good to be on a site where people can relate...
