Enlarged Prostate and PSA
« on: January 23, 2017, 11:25:44 PM »
Has anyone found a relationship between POIS and prostate issues or high PSA?

I have an enlarged prostate, and slightly elevated PSA.

I also have had microscopic blood in my urine for years, but doctors could find no cause for it.

Has anyone else experienced these symptoms or have any thoughts on them?

Thanks.

Hi Peaceful and welcome to the forum,

To date, no correlation have been noted between high PSA and POIS.  In fact, any blood tests usually done on a POIS sufferer returns as "normal", except some exceptions in a few cases, like low testosterone.  Many members have been investigated by urologists, who have found nothing through blood tests, this implying that their PSA was normal.  However, we strongly suspect that their is one than more possible cause to POIS, and those different types of POIS may include a type where PSA is elevated.  It will take more research to know anything more specific about the cause of POIS.

High PSA is starting to appear in men beginning at 50 y/o and is present in a large proportion of men, up to 50% of men at the age of 79.  Despite all those cases of high PSA, POIS is never heard of in this condition or whatsoever. PSA is regularly done as a screening test for prostate cancer, and the associated pathologies like Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) are well known, so if high PSA would be associated with POIS, even in 1% of the cases, it would have been noticed by now by the current medical science.

Despite having any clue, your prostate problems may be related to your POIS problem.   If you would resolve your prostate issue, you could than see if this is the case.

I suppose you already have been prescribed all the usual medications for the prostate, to no avail.  An urologist here, now retired, used to prescribe magnesium supplements for enlarged prostate, often in the form of suppositories ( they were called Cepasium, back then),  Were you offered this option ?  You could check this with your urologist.

Thanks for your reply.  I had not heard about magnesium treatment for enlarged prostate before.

I did wonder if the microscopic blood in my urine was related to POIS as I recall reading that men with a history of urinary tract surgery get POIS afterward.  I wonder if somehow semen gets into the blood.

Thanks again.

Did the doctor post any studies using for using that suppository?
