Any suggestion for Doctor visit in London?
« on: January 27, 2016, 09:33:53 AM »
Hi guys. I have tried Niacin and Fenugreek treatments to no avail. I don?t want to try any drugs without a doctor prescribing and monitoring me.

I am based in London and would like to see if I can meet any doctor who is helpful and understanding of POIS. From going through the forum I could see that some have met Dr Goldmeir and Dexter in London. Do you suggest meeting one of them or any other doctor?

Any help from you guys will be much appreciated. I am also ready to participate in any London based POIS research.
33 years old, POIS for around 12 years with increasing severity.
Major symptoms - Severe fatigue, back pain, unrefreshed even after 9+ hours sleep, pain behind eyes, very dry face, bald head with inflamed scalp, digestion issues and constipation. Very low testosterone and high glucose in blood tests

Hi joelawerence

Have you tried to find out if you could see one of these specialists?
I'd go visit them if I was living nearby.

Dr Jane Ashby, London, co-authored a POIS paper with Dr Goldmeier. Sorry I don't have her current contact info.
10 years of significant POIS-reduction, treatment consisting of daily (365 days/year) testosterone patches.

TRT must be checked out carefully with your doctor due to fertility, cardiac and other risks.

40+ years of severe 4-days-POIS, married, raised a family, started/ran a business

Hi joelawrence,

I met with one of the Drs in London. From a support and empathy point of view, I found it worthwhile, as I had never before met a Dr who had heard of POIS and in some way understood and perhaps didn't judge the many years of less than positive experience with POIS.

In terms of treatment strategy, there wasn't a magic bullet so to speak. He offered options, which I declined to follow, because I didn't think it was something that would impact me materially and I choose to stay the non pharma route with recovery until
something if available.

Message me if you want to know more.

Thanks Demo for your input, I am still sitting on the fence to see whether a doctor visit at this point of time is going to be of any use. I had one question for your regarding TRT ? I am only 30 years old now with one kid and planning for another kid in a couple of years. I suppose you may remember from my post in the Testosterone thread that my testosterone is very low. From your research and experience with TRT do you think TRT affects fertility drastically? I want to see if my GP or any specialist he refers me to will prescribe me TRT to see if it helps my POIS, but I am scared regarding the fertility issue. I am going to check with my doctor regarding this anyways but I wanted to get your opinion as well. Thanks :)

Hi COLM2, thanks for your input. Are you able to share what treatments was proposed by the doctors, just so that I can see if it would be of any use for me to see them?

Hi Less fogged, I have not seen any doctors yet. I am sure if I see a doctor they would diagnose me as hypogonadism as I have very low testosterone. I am not sure if that would be the right thing for me, that's why I am a bit sceptical to see anyone yet.

I had the same, joelawerence, very low testosterone, saw an endocrinologist, did bloodwork, brain scan, consults, then was prescribed TRT for hypogonadism, which was a major POIS turnaround for me.

Best wishes!

From your research and experience with TRT do you think TRT affects fertility drastically?

Yes.

But that's just my experience and opinion. Talk to a good endocrinologist. Mine told me that infertility can be reversed. I have 2 grown offspring so it's not an issue for me (personally) any longer.
