Thats interesting, I do take a B-complex, but Jarrow brand has too small quantity of B2.  Placed an order for 400mg of Riboflavin.   I am in POIS again, it sucks bad.   Taking glutathione which provides amazing relief for 2-3 hrs, but then back to my crappy state - depressive mood, dull/patchy and burning skin, lesions, paresis and hell on earth

For me riboflavin helped a lot. My face doesn't look saggy anymore. I take about 50 mg 3 times a day.

Nas, I dont mean to cast down your symptoms, but from my experience POIS = obvious swelling. I have both brain fog and skin symptoms.  While you cannot physically see inflammation in brain (for mental symptoms), but for skin symptoms for me it is very obvious, systemic swelling specially on face and extremities like ankles.  My one side face nerve weakness during POIS is also I think due to swelling of face (though docs when I question them dont agree or disagree with me and dislike my concerns).  I am going to get my ESR checked some day during POIS and then as soon I recover from POIS.

About catechlomine depletion, I take Adderall (it potently boosts your dopamine and norepinephrine giving you motivation like no other susbtance).  It does not affect my swelling or skin symptoms at all, the mental symptom it helps somewhat, but I can feel that while Adderall is giving me motivation + energy, but POIS effect overwhelms and pushes me back into a depressed state.  But all in all, I recommend adderall to alleviate brain symptoms of POIS, but keep in mind it will not undo the POIS mental state (let alone the skin symptoms).  I feel what Adderall does for mental symptoms, Glutathione/NAC/Milk Thistle does for skin symptoms.

To add to what you people have been discussing, for us cognitive symptoms are always seen from the lense of inflammation; we always look at the symptoms that we suffer from as inflammation, which is fair for flu like symptoms but I feel that when it comes to cognitive symptoms, while inflammation is an explanation that makes sense, what if it was not inflammation? What if the cognitive symptoms are a result of depleted neurotransmitters that do not get regained. Especially when it comes to Catecholamines like Epinephrine, they don't just play a role in the Nervous System, but they also are used all across the body. Low levels of Epinephrine can result in lower blood pressure and more vasodilation, this opens up the body for more inflammatory activity. If POIS is an auto-immune reaction, low levels of Epinephrine definitely does not help. Quite an interesting speculation if you ask me.

I don't though which is curious, however I do have chronic urethritis and cystitis. Maybe if POIS is an auto-immune illness perhaps that inflammatory pressure causes inhibited production of certain neurotransmitters?

For me, I define mental POIS effects in the order of significance as: social withdrawal, brain fog, emotional instability, depression.  The skin effects I will just call it as visible physical detoriation of your body (skin becoming hypochromatic/withered/pale/blotchy, nerve weakness, dyskinesia).  I feel POIS effects are like a "blanket" of mental/behavioral and physical/skin symptoms thrown at you for 7 days.

Adderall/dopamine agnonists potently give you "motivation" to work, to exercise, do something productive, but also makes you restless and anxious and nervous.   For one, these effects are very temporary.  You feel the effect coming and you feel going away (lets call that withdrawal).  When NOT in POIS, I am strong and beautifully manage these dopamine spikes.  However during POIS, I scumb to these spikes and I feel dyskinesia more so.  I dont know well how to say it.  I feel POIS makes DRAMATIC systemic changes that are negative to your body specially your "nerves" making them susceptible.  And since we all have different physiology, we succumb in different manifestations to this toll that our nerves take during POIS period.  So while I love adderall in non-POIS state, I have a harder time loving it during POIS state.  I feel withdrawal more, I feel dyskinesia more, I feel anxiety from adderall more.  Maybe it is the skin symptoms (which I think are closely tied to the brain symptoms) neurological/nerve weakness/susceptibility that prevent you to benefit fully from dopamine agonists?

I appreciate your details Swell, but we need stuff more specific. If POIS =/= Brain inflammation then it must be hormonal under production. Catecholamines under production also involves serotonin which could be the reason why you have these emotional issues? Have you tried an SSRI with Aderall? One other point I like to point out about, is when these hormones are under produced, is stimulating them going to work? Wouldn't it push something we already don't have much of? I would like a medical feed back on this question since I'm not sure if I want to try stimulators, Reuptake inhibitors, or supplementation?

I do wish though I dont think it is that simple to get more specific (which is why I am not hopeful for any breakthroughs on POIS).  I have only seen on this forum nanna1 brave enough to jot a couple of hypothesis for POIS.  Try to engage worlds top medical doctors and they will give you an evil eye.  And talking about catecholamines (mental/behavioral health field) that is the worst understood area, not to disparage but psychiatrists are the medical students with the lowest scores in USMLE that couldn't go anywhere else :)

So back to catechlomines.  I suspect it is a complex framework than just under or over production.  Catechloamines could be happiness related and could also stress related.  Dopamine release at a specific receptor (d1, d2, bla bla) in a specific brain region could be good as well bad.  Cortisol is something we dread, plays an even more complex role.  Serotonin is worst understood I feel or maybe its my lack of knowledge.  Pardon me, I'm not a doc :)   God, I have 1 day more left for my POIS to be over.  And damn, remind me, I will never have an o again.  At least one can wish :)

So back to your question.  Exactly, supplementing with dopamine precursors is not that good of an idea unless you have a specific concern and take a specific med that modulates specific receptors within specific brain regions.  Like for ADHD taking Adderall makes a life changing difference.  For ADHD has decades of research and study behind it and ADHD meds are designed to attenuate dopamine receptor d1 and adrenoreceptor a2 in prefrontal cortex only.  But if you take for ADHD L-Dopa or other dopamine precursors, its not going to work that well, might mess up and produce strange effects or no effect at all.  SSRI's I hate them.  Serotonin is a one messy whatever it is :)  I have tried a few SSRI's and consistently got the most frightening dulling headaches and made a wow to not mess with an SSRI again.  NDRI's are better, but sadly they dont work well with Adderall.   That said I hope I'm proven wrong and somebody can indeed figure out POIS.

What are your POIS symptoms?

What are your POIS symptoms?
They're mostly brain fog, memory loss, social withdrawal, lack of concentration, unable to speak, feeling cold, depression, etc.
My physical symptoms are mild, I only get urethritis and POTS. This drives me to the conclusion that hormonal or enzymatic imbalance is more likely than inflammation.
I did try bromocriptine recently and it didn't seem to do anything other than making me vomit. I will try L-Dopa soon and see if does anything.

If I were you, I would:
Sam-e for depression (very healthy, better cellular functions) though takes 2-3 weeks and effects are mild.
Pregnenolone (anti-aging), modulates dopamine and other hormones, visibly improves brain fog, speech, social.  I take 5mg - 10mg twice/week, though people take 50 mg upwards daily.
Carnosine (anti-aging, very healthy), visibly improves speech, makes you social butterfly.  This one is my total favorite, I take daily.  You have to take at least 1000 mg, since there is an enzyme carnosinase in our bodies that destroys L-carnosine.  The trick is to overwhelm action of carnosinase.  Research indicates 800mg+ of carnosine is sufficient to overwhelm carnosinase.

I love the above 3, except that my POIS is heck so intensely strong that while Carnosine alone cheers me up, but there are host of other physical symptoms, most imp being nerve weakness that I frankly dont see a solution.

I've noticed that orgasm causes the masseter muscle to become very tense, and possibly also the temporalis muscle.

I believe the effects of this can be:

  • restricted blood flow
  • pale face
  • headaches
  • ear pain
  • jaw pain
  • anxiety

I would recommend anyone to relax the jaw and temporalis muscles as much as possible, especially around orgasm, and see if it makes a difference.
Male, INTJ. POIS symptoms: red eyes, ear-pain, anxiety, speech problems, pale/ugly skin, stiff neck, double chin, tinnitus, light sensitivity. POIS even after stimulation without O.

Interesting.  Ejaculation produces different symptoms on me, 99% times increased swelling and 1% times decreased.  Like 10 yrs ago in bad car accident I had several bone injuries, and my face swelled like a balloon and the swelling would not go down, it took a month for it to subside.  I observed during that time that ejaculation made my swelling go down at least temporary.  However during normal times, ejaculation within 24 hrs makes my face and ankles swell and puffy.

After masturbation my face get a lot narrower,

On top of saggy my skins especially facial skins will become thinner also dark eyes cycles no matter how much sleep I got.  And again, it only happens after masturbate it will not happens after sex

weirdly enough, eating fired chicken can sometime improve this condition for a day or two

@DEANNX

Try to keep back, neck and face (jaw!) muscles entirely relaxed during orgasm; see what difference it makes.

Note that this may make orgasm less pleasurable, but you should consider this part of the exercise. You may have acquired the wrong technique, and you can re-learn a different technique once you figure out what is causing your problems.

It may sound strange, but to me it now makes perfect sense.

After 10 weeks of no masturbate( but still have sex), my face starts to gain fat now but I still get droopy face from time to time usually last about 5 days, really weird.
