I do wish though I dont think it is that simple to get more specific (which is why I am not hopeful for any breakthroughs on POIS). I have only seen on this forum nanna1 brave enough to jot a couple of hypothesis for POIS. Try to engage worlds top medical doctors and they will give you an evil eye. And talking about catecholamines (mental/behavioral health field) that is the worst understood area, not to disparage but psychiatrists are the medical students with the lowest scores in USMLE that couldn't go anywhere else
So back to catechlomines. I suspect it is a complex framework than just under or over production. Catechloamines could be happiness related and could also stress related. Dopamine release at a specific receptor (d1, d2, bla bla) in a specific brain region could be good as well bad. Cortisol is something we dread, plays an even more complex role. Serotonin is worst understood I feel or maybe its my lack of knowledge. Pardon me, I'm not a doc
God, I have 1 day more left for my POIS to be over. And damn, remind me, I will never have an o again. At least one can wish
So back to your question. Exactly, supplementing with dopamine precursors is not that good of an idea unless you have a specific concern and take a specific med that modulates specific receptors within specific brain regions. Like for ADHD taking Adderall makes a life changing difference. For ADHD has decades of research and study behind it and ADHD meds are designed to attenuate dopamine receptor d1 and adrenoreceptor a2 in prefrontal cortex only. But if you take for ADHD L-Dopa or other dopamine precursors, its not going to work that well, might mess up and produce strange effects or no effect at all. SSRI's I hate them. Serotonin is a one messy whatever it is
I have tried a few SSRI's and consistently got the most frightening dulling headaches and made a wow to not mess with an SSRI again. NDRI's are better, but sadly they dont work well with Adderall. That said I hope I'm proven wrong and somebody can indeed figure out POIS.
What are your POIS symptoms?
I appreciate your details Swell, but we need stuff more specific. If POIS =/= Brain inflammation then it must be hormonal under production. Catecholamines under production also involves serotonin which could be the reason why you have these emotional issues? Have you tried an SSRI with Aderall? One other point I like to point out about, is when these hormones are under produced, is stimulating them going to work? Wouldn't it push something we already don't have much of? I would like a medical feed back on this question since I'm not sure if I want to try stimulators, Reuptake inhibitors, or supplementation?
